PopCap today announced a new "HD" version of their super-popular Plants Vs. Zombies just for the Apple iPad, which takes advantage of the devices' increased screen real estate as well as bringing some new mini-games that are exclusive to this edition.

If it's not a mystery that Plants vs Zombies, one of the most successful casual games this year, is expected on iPhone, the release date was revealed on Popcap Games's Facebook page, thanks to an answer of a question from a follower.

It seems that the game will be out on the App Store late January but there is still no indication on the price.

Popcap's casual Zombie tower defense game, Plants vs. Zombies has been nominated for Best PC Game of the Year at the 2009 SpikeTV Video Game Awards. This is the first time that a game from a "casual" studio has gone up against AAA titles from large publishers. Other nominees are Dragon Age: Origins, Left 4 Dead 2, and The Sims 3.
