Details about the PlayStation 4 have surface and have revealed that the next-gen system is codenamed Orbis. A release date of 2013 and the ability to display games at a resolution of 4096×2160 are nice, but no backwards compatibility to PS3 games and no used games support are not.
With Epic Games' tech demo that was showcased at GDC, lots of speculation about the next generation of gaming consoles has become very popular. TheGamerBuzz.com specualtes...
Recently, rumors popped up about a firmware update that will add facebook. Today Eurogamer received an confirmation for an anonymous source that yes its true, the PS3 will get facebook integration. Sony's PR line also said more information on this would come "very shortly."
"Facebook integration, the ability to change your gamercard colors and more are coming to PlayStation 3, if these images from an anonymous tipster are to be believed.
The leaked images show the ability to manage your Facebook in your PlayStation Network account settings, changing the color of your PlayStation Network gamercard and a new, more sufficient way of looking through your photos.
Consider this a rumor right now, but the shots look pretty damn legit."
This week we'll be getting the award winning puzzle platformer Braid. Along with that, Tecmo's NBA Unrivaled will be making it's debut. Call of Duty Classic was released early this week as a treat to coincide with the launch of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. DLC, and a few more PSP games will round out this week's update.
Currently Sony doesn't have a name for their upcoming motion controller. You can just imagine a bunch of chimpanzees writing away clever names behind a typewriter. While that isn't true, what could be true is this new rumored name for the controller. 'Sphere' as it was called by a Sega Producer. No word on if this is the official name, but errors in translation do happen.
It looks like Sony tried to hide the development of a 250GB PS3 Slim. If you’ll take a look at this FCC document, you’ll notice that the Company Name is labeled as “Sand Dollar Enterprise,” yet that address turns out to be none other than Sony Computer Entertainment America’s address. The device in question here is the 250 GB PS3 Slim. It seems like a 250GB PS3 Slim would be a great announcement at Gamescom, but Sony must have other plans for it.
Now I know many of you are sick of seeing PlayStation 3 Slim rumors, and believe me, I'm not fond of them either. However, this recent development is pretty interesting, especially if you can read Chinese.
A Hong Kong magazine cover shows a waffle iron-esque object, and the text surrounding it reads:
quoteBelow the larger text, there's something about the convention in Germany, GamesCon. Click on image to enlarge."Confirmed! Slim PS3 comes out next month!"
"Here at the Big Man and Garrett we like groundbreaking things. Enjoy this. Pictures below. These were taken with a cell phone from an anonymous source. Real? Fake? Definitely Awesome?"
These rumors have been circulating around the internet for months now and there's more to add to fire. Jeuxvideo.com, one of the biggest French gaming websites, reports that retailers are expecting a $100 price drop for the PS3 alongside a new model, which will most likely be the Slim. They report that Sony will show off this model at GamesCom which is only a few weeks away.
Here's a video captured by a shopper on his cell phone in the Philippines with what seems to be a PS3 Slim. There's no clue about the validity of the hardware or how it landed up from the alleged Taiwanese manufacturing factories to the Philippines. Sony's so far declined to comment on "rumors and speculation." So make what you will out of it.
No, this isn't another one of Michael Pachter's inane predictions. This time these predictions are coming from a mole over at Ars Technica. Before you arbitrarily dismiss Nostradamus' predictions here, this person's been known to have been correct about the 360 price cut last year, the Resident Evil 5 360 bundle, and the PSP Go. He states that Sony will reveal a price cut for the PS3 simultaneously with the announcement of the PS3 Slim. As for Microsoft, he says that they will phase out the P...
"A small paragraph of information on PS 'Cloud' in July 09 issue of PSW page 73! Sorry about the crappy quality, the article reads: You've always been able to create and share levels in PSN puzzler Echochrome, but an update will let you do this via 'Cloud'. This system removes the need for Sony to check levels before being uploaded - an early problem for LittleBigPlanet. The new update will also allow for Playstation Eye support. You will be able to film yourself solving the game's complex puz..."
"If this is actually true, then we just might see the Sony paint the town silver come June. That's because word has it on the street that Silver PlayStation 3 DualShock controllers are on their way to the US in a couple of months.
This story originated from a GameStop employee who confirmed that their store will indeed be receiving shipment of the Silver one by June. Cool, huh? But what good would a Silver controller do if the console is not a match?"
Rumors have been flying like crazy, and some more have been surfaced. VG247 has learned that Firmware 2.7 has already been released for devalopers and soon will be released for fans. This would make sense as to how Insomniac is capable of having multiple PSN login's when they said this feature wasn't capable before.
Developers want it, people want it, Well it looks like its finally coming. A major UK retailer has stated that it's coming "soon", with predictions stating that it could be as soon as next week. Fingers crossed this isn't one of 10,000 other untrue rumours.
With all the economic panic going around as of late, it's no wonder companies are trying to cut their losses and weather the storm ahead. IGN takes a different stance, however. They believe that a price cut is imminent for the PS3. According to IGN, the PS3 needs a price cut to counter the slumping sales it has "apparently" been experiencing.
Among IGN's ideas are a Blu-Ray-less PS3 and a flat-out $100 price drop (despite the fact Sony is only $40 off making profit on each console.).
"In attendance at the Sony Computer Entertainment Staff Annual Briefing held yesterday in London, an anonymous source going by the alias of Legends has just tipped us off on all manner of huge PlayStation news. We must make it clear that D+PAD werent in attendance and that we have no reason to doubt the validity of Legends claims, but treat this as rumour until confirmed.
* Price cuts coming in March, PS3 performing better in PAL territories than 360
Our source tells us that SCEE..."
The OPM (Official Playstation Magazine) has a rather interesting tidbit of info in their latest issue. While it is still a rumor the magazine has reason to believe Sony may implement a system to give rewards to users who earn lots of trophies on their PS3's. Considering trophies and the 360 equivalents achievements haven't really had a point before now this could be an excellent move.
At this stage this is very much a rumour, since without official word, it's incredibly hard for anyone to be certain, but it seems that news has surfaced that the latest firmware update (which will not include Home, but will include the ability to take in-game screenshots) will be released between October 13th and October 19th.
According to a Japanese website, PC Watch, has stated that Sony is indeed working on the next Playstation system, and that its going to feature a money saving system. Wonder how thats going to work? By basing it off the PS3 Cell Processor which should, in theory, make sure the console doesn't cost half a grand, or a grand in some countries.
Now this makes sense due to the fact this is brand new technology that the PS3 Cell hasn't reach its full potential, and Sony wouldn't make a brand ne...
"According to VG247, part of Sony's Leipzig press conference (at least, one of the parts we don't already know about) is to be devoted to an unveiling of the "next generation of EyeToy". Seeing as the successor to the EyeToy peripheral - the PlayStation Eye - is already out, we'll presume they're talking about a next-gen sequel to EyeToy Play"
