Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Ubisoft announced today that they will be placing a new emphasis going forward on the development of video game movies. Check out the entire post for all of the details.

Online retailer Amazon France has apparently listed two Ubisoft compilations, Splinter Cell Trilogy and Prince of Persia Trilogy, for the Playstation 3.

"They say everyone learns from mistakes, but what if you could correct them before they even happened? That’s exactly what these following 5 games all have in common, as each title has revealed a world of parallel universes, where an accident, mistake or history itself can be re-written."

EX: Disney's upcoming Prince of Persia: Sands of Time movie might not be taking home any awards when it's released in theaters on May 28th, but at the very least it won't infect your eyeballs with cancer. Here are seven reasons why.

"Now I suppose that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but as far as this beholder is concerned Gemma Arterton is perfect for the role of Princess Tamina, the character that evolved from the prince's companion Farah from the Prince of Persia video games. So the fact that anyone would take the time out of their day to write her a letter telling her otherwise boggles my mind.

According to an interview in the May edition of Details magazine, someone did just that.

"

"Prince Of Persia star Gemma Arterton said she'd never heard of the video game before landing the role in the film.

Asked if she knew the game, she said to UK's SFX magazine: 'I didn't. I'm really rubbish like that! Someone told me 'Prince Of Persia' and I was like 'Prince Of What?'

'So I went into it like an open book. The character in the film is not like the character in the game, from what I can gather. She's not a warrior - she's more of a priestess, and comic and funny.'"

If you haven't heard by now, Prince of Persia is being developed into a movie. It is being published by Disney and produced by Jerry Bruikhiemer. Don't worry, its being made by the same team of people as Pirates so it has some hope. The second trailer for the movie as been released, hit the link to check it out!

"One of the first things I hear from Michael McIntyre, level design director of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, is that it takes place soon after (the awesome) Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Sure, Sands of Time had a proper (though, not nearly as well-received) sequel in Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, but lore-wise, there's a seven-year gap between those two installments -- which provides a convenient place for Forgotten Sands to take place. McIntyre quips, "Obviously, some rea..."

"If you asked most people these days to remember the old Prince of Persia games, they probably wouldn't immediately think all the way back to Jordan Mechner's seminal, rotoscoped PC action game from the '80s. More likely, their minds would run to The Sands of Time, the rampantly successful 2003 attempt to bring Mechner's acrobatic Arabian adventure into 3D on modern consoles. Ubisoft went and reinvented Prince of Persia again in 2008, recasting the prince as a foppish vagabond in a painterly w..."

"When I look at director Mike Newell’s filmography, I’m impressed by its breadth, depth, and quality. It’s difficult for me to imagine that the same man who made Donnie Brasco also made Four Weddings and a Funeral, and also made Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Yet despite (or perhaps because of) his eclectic choices, Newell has been able to craft films that always seem able to bring out a certain sense of authenticity in their characters and in the relationships between them. In a couple ..."

Who says video games can't be turned into great movies? For years gamers have put up with game-to-movie adaptations that have ranged from terrible to average, but never much more than that.
Well, it looks like Prince of Persia is about to change that. A new trailer was shown during the Super Bowl and it looks amazing.

"The last decade was an absolutely amazing one, at least where videogames were concerned. The new technologies of the past two console generations have enabled the medium to soar to incredible new heights, introducing entirely new types of experiences and – perhaps more notably – delivering the sexy better than ever before. The decade from 2000 to 2009 brought us increasingly realistic (or at least convincingly idealized) heroines and heroes that not only looked hot when rendered in 3D, but al..."

""Running across walls and performing acrobatic flips to new heights was the reason why gamers were instantly hooked. From beginning till the end, The Sands of Time was a gorgeous game to see in motion. The character art stood out above the rest of the sequels due to the personality that Mechner and the development team provided for The Sands of Time.

Add in the wonderful time-manipulation and breathtaking environments, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was a 'Tour de France' of gaming ex..."

The Prince of Persia movie trailer was amazing. The new poster...not so much.

Although, speaking from a female perspective, there is something awfully dreamy about Jake Gyllenhall's eyes here... and his small smile...and his, wait, where was I going with this?

"Movies made from video games suck right? Even worse than games based on movies.

I'm the Prince of Posers!

That’s the general consensus among both film critics and gamers, though I myself have enjoyed a few of the films like Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Hitman and even Max Payne.

No, they weren’t paragons of classy cinema worthy of deep discussion or jaw-dropping amazement, but they were entertaining enough with at least some vague tributes to the source material they were using.

Who says video games can't be turned into great movies? For years gamers have put up with game-to-movie adaptations that have ranged from terrible to average, but never much more than that. Well, it looks like Prince of Persia is about to change that. According to film producer Jerry Bruckheimer the test audience "flipped" over the movie. They adored it!

"The preview was short but powerful. We caught two runs of the trailer; what stood out was the movies that inspired the game easily transitioned back onto the big screen. Feeling a mash-up of Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Pirates movies, the execution plays right into the expectations of a blockbuster summer movie, pushing effects and over-the-top action sequences in exotic locations in every sequence shown. From what we saw the "rewind" feature functioned well in the movie."

It's probably safe to say most of us anticipated the upcoming Prince of Persia movie (now subtitled The Sands of Time, apparently) would be a total bomb. You'd think a couple movie posters wouldn't change anyones mind either, but lo and behold, they have...

The movie will be out May 28, 2010.

PC gamers can rejoice -- digital distribution service Good Old Games has signed Ubisoft to its catalogue, announcing the deal today. What this means is you can get the likes of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Far Cry, Beyond Good & Evil, and lots more for $6 or $10, DRM-free, and XP/Vista compatible (Mac and Win7 too, to some extent).

Hurrah!

New images have been released of Jake Gyllenhaal on the set of the upcoming Prince of Persia film. Gyllenhaal seems to be taking on the persona of the prince as well as you could expect for someone who doesn't look Persian in the slightest.

"During the New York Toy Fair over the weekend, it was announced that, continuing with their recent fascination with recreating famous movie scenes/characters, LEGO would be releasing a line of LEGO figures and playsets for the upcoming Prince of Persia movie.

Sure, the toys will be based on the movie, and not the game, but it's a movie based on a game. So, in a roundabout way, we'll have the first LEGO toys to be made from a video game series, and not the other way around.

The toys won'..."

Jake Gyllenhaal has been cast in the new Prince of Persia film and is set to take the role of Dastan. This film is based on the games and includes actors such as Gemma Arterton, who will play Tamina.
The two will have to stop Ben Kingsley from getting the Sands of Time.

Filming has just kicked off on the Moroccan set, and is being directed by Mike Newell who also shot the fourth Harry Potter film.

"The new Prince of Persia game isn't called Heir Apparent, as previously reported from a Game Informer cover. From the Ubisoft forums:

Rumors have popped up that the new Prince of Persia game is called “Heir Apparent.”
This is not the case! The origin of the mistake is in the title of the Game Informer
article on Prince of Persia called Heir Apparent.

Just to clarify: The Heir Apparent is the name of the article, and it is NOT the name of the new game.

No name has officially been an..."

In the latest cover of Edge Magazine is the the brand new Prince Of Persia from Ubisoft. 7 page exclusive so if your a big PoP fan you can sit there and read the scans. If your not, take a look at eh pictures and concept art. The game will change it's combat style to a more "Soul Calibur" fighting and will use Cel Shading.

There's another rumor out and about about who will play the lead role in the Prince of Persia movie. Despite 10,500,000 people wanting the real-life Prince of Persia to play the lead role, it was rumored that Orlando Bloom got it, but that was quickly proven false. Who's the rumor about this time? Jake Gyllenhaal.

Today it was announced that Orlando Bloom will be playing the role of the prince in the new Prince of Persia movie, despite a worlwide survey revealing that 70% of 15 million people voted for actor and real prince of Persia - David K Zandi - to play the role.

But Disney was quick to dispell this 'news' as a rumour, and announced that Orlando Bloom hasn't been cast as the prince. (though they're not ruling him out).

This might be good news, or it might be bad news.
It means that the re...

Despite 70% of 15 million people voting for the Prince of Persia to play the lead role in the upcoming PoP movie trilogy, Orlando Bloom has been awarded the role.

"Movie hunk" > Real life Prince of Persia. We love you, Hollywood!

IESB.com got their hands on a worldwide survey asking the audience who they want to see as the main man in the Prince of Persia movie. Well the results were unanimous - and here's the funny part - out of the 15 million people who took part in the survey, 70% of them wanted David K. Zandi to play the role. What's so funny about that? Well, David is the prince of Persia in real life!

And we might just see David playing the role. He is an actor and is proficient in both fencing and Roman swo...

This week. we covered a gamut of topics. We first talked a bit about our Wii Giveaway. Then we got into the banhammer that was dropped on Halo 3 Epsilon players and the 24 hour ban dropped on Call of Duty 4 beta fans. We talked about the free games that just came out from Ubisoft and EA, which we hope is a trend in the right direction for older games. We also hit on the Bioshock multiplayer issue and digital distribution being the savior of PC Gaming.

"Now a report has surfaced claiming that Bruckheimer is tapping a regular collaborator of his to direct the highly anticipated project.

According to IESB.net, Transformers helmer Michael Bay will direct Prince of Persia. The site adds that Disney sources have confirmed that the studio is "hopeful" they will land Bay for the pic, which is reportedly earmarked for a summer 2009 release.

Bruckheimer and Bay have previously teamed for The Rock, Pearl Harbor, the Bad Boys films and Armageddon..."
