Puzzle Quest Challenge of the Warlords

"Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) really came into its own this year. From enormous adventures you can sink dozens of hours into to modest but addictive little puzzle games, Microsoft's downloadable game service has a wide variety of quality offerings.

We know this time of year there are a bunch of new Xbox 360 owners out there, so we've put together this list of the ten essential XBLA games you should download pronto. This is by no means a comprehensive list of everything the service has to offer,..."

"It's been four full years since the introduction of the Nintendo DS. This dual-screen, touch-screen handheld was a system first received with skepticism when it launched in the US in November of 2004. Over time, it began to prove itself. The dual-screened handheld that had everyone, gamers and developers alike, scratching their heads has become the most popular and most purchased piece of video game hardware.

But it's not on the strength of the hardware alone. The reason why Nintendo's DS ..."

"Vicious Cycle Software, a premier developer of interactive entertainment and game development technology, has announced that Vicious Engine 2, the second installment of their highly adaptable game development platform, will officially be launched at this year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco."

"For those of you not yet familiar with the Unsung Heroes series, the rules are as follows; games eligible are those disc-based releases that Electronic Theatre feels have been underrated, or treated unfairly since launch. And for Wii (along with every other system) we’re keeping it based strictly on titles that have seen UK launch..."

Looks like Sony is ahead of Nintendo in terms of modern distribution: as talked about before, they've headed up a service which will allow PSP owners to download games to their handheld, eliminating the need for a physical product.

D3P are one of the first publishers to sign on for the service (the PlayStation Store), bringing their titles Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords and Dead Head Fred to the digital realm this September.

With just a week to go before the release of the much awaited Soul Calibur 4, GV's Richie Harkness takes us through the XBLA content, demos, and games that've become available over the week, letting you know which bits might be worth a look, and which are best left well alone...

It's almost understandable - a game that has a crippling bug causes a few players to snap and threaten the lives of the developers. A few gamers have done just that after finding that PSP owners of Puzzle Quest: Challenge Of The Warlords has a bug that takes this addictively infuriating game from agonising to life threatening.

"Bioshock
This atmospheric first-person shooter game drew players in to a unique dystopian setting and broke ground with a storyline that forced players to make moral decisions.

Portal
One of the most original (and funny) games in recent history requires players to solve puzzles using a teleporting "Portal Gun." It also features a hugely compelling character in the computerized guide GLaDOS.

Rock Band
The studio that created toy-guitar game phenomenon "Guitar Hero" cranked the volume ..."

Whether they are awarding games on the high powered PS3, or the innovative and fast-selling DS, they have always looked at gameplay rather than graphics. Calling all Cars is a good example of this, winning an award for it's fun gameplay!

Well, with Black Friday behind us, we can probably expect the glut of games being released to decrease over time. But who would've expected this much of a drop off? Shortest notable list in a while, folks. However, there's still to be some gems to come out in the waning weeks of 2007.

For the time being, my wallet is happy. At least until I realize there's games I haven't picked up yet from the last couple of weeks.

Also, no PS3, PSP?

Notable games this week:
Geometry Wars: Gala...

Personally, I am eagerly awaiting the Aeris (or maybe, Mario, from someone who received call yesterday) call from EBGames telli...

So, Nintendo sent out new PR, detailing their new release schedule. Unfortunately, that includes Brawl on Feb. 10

However, there are some very amusing and hidden gems. Assassin's Creed apparently is set to be released February '08, and Advance Wars: Days of Ruin will be releasing on January 21st. There are some delays, including February 4th for Professor Layton (originally Dec. 3). It is shaping up to be a great end of '07/early '08.

Take note that this is a partial list. Most not...

"Today D3 Publisher announced plans to bring its casually hardcore game Puzzle Quest to the Wii, PlayStation 2, PC, and mobile phones. Along with the already released DS and PSP versions and the upcoming Xbox Live adaptation, that means every platform but the PlayStation 3 will have its own piece of the Puzzle. D3 says sales data from the market research firm NPD reveals Puzzle Quest is the best-selling puzzle game on the DS so far this year."
