With six main games, countless spin-offs, and a movie franchise that just received a 3D sequel, it seems as though the diverse and varied cast of Resident Evil will outlive the zombies it is known for. Here are the top 10 ever to grace our hearts...and our brains.

Resident Evil is the series that coined the term "survival horror", but in recent years the games have moved towards more action-oriented gameplay and stories, leaving the 'survival' and 'horror' behind.
While the Resident Evil franchise still manages to pull in sales, many fans feel that it has lost much of what made it such a popular series in the first place.

Capcom's 'head of character contents business', Toshihiro Tokumaru, recently speaking for a piece to be featured in Capcom's Investor Relations communication, has revealed the company licensing the movie rights to Resident Evil as they did was "unfortunate".
He implies they made a poor decision in passing over all rights with the deal, thereby losing all ability to use 'any finished product'. As such, "in the future, we'd like to create films where we retain the rights".

Many were hoping that Capcom's Resident Evil film would pump some life back into the series, and wipe the Milla Jovovich films from our minds, and what could possible go wrong when Sony Pictures were behind it?

"Videogame characters are lazy, forgetful, or just plain stupid. Cutscene after cutscene, they exhibit planet-shaking combat abilities and a level of indestructibility which would make God himself jealous. But as soon as you pick up the controller? The Incredible Hulk turns back into Bruce Banner and all of those showboating tricks and superhuman powers disappear into the ether.
They're constantly saving their best tricks until we've already done all the hard work for them, and even if not,..."
Remember the good ol' days of the original PSone? Remember when the PSone's choppy graphics wow-ed us all?
