Ever since the early console games, bosses have been a staple of video gaming. However, there's always at least one that really makes you scratch your head and wonder what's wrong with the sucker.

"It’s clear we love Mega Man. It’s clear we love retro games. Which is why we find Mega Man in Street Fighter x Tekken hilarious. For me, the funniest bit is how his name shows up in all caps in the game. So you can have matches like “Hwoarang vs MEGA MAN.” Brilliant Capcom, brilliant.

Aside from that, this week our lovely cast talks about some other news stories, but mostly HD remakes and how we feel about them. It was a bit of a slow news week, but that didn’t keep up from having a ..."

"Horror is a genre I never really explored in video games, but with the recent announcement of Resident Evil 6, I decided it would be rude not to talk about it. Most of my experience up until recent years was the terror of corrupted data, the fear I might somehow die before I reached the next save point and the concern that maybe, just maybe, I’d spent money on the wrong game and would have to spend the next few weeks exploring a terrible glitch-ridden world that bored me to tears. However, I ..."

"That’s right folks, you can now take your favorite written blog with you in an audio format that you can put on your iPod for your listening pleasure at home or on the go. I think the kids are calling it a “podcast.” We just happen to call our’s Primecast, hosted by John Callahan and starring Chris Stewart, Alex Carlson, Raymond Mak, Lucas Hahn, and me, John-Charles Holmes.

This week, we decided to shoot the breeze and discuss recent happenings in the news, especially the developments of..."

The Playstation 3 version of the just-released Resident Evil 4 HD does not include any strict DRM that requires you to log-in to the Playstation Network.

"So I have been looking forward to the HD remake, released as a downloadable game (DLC) on Xbox Live and PSN. It includes all the features of the past versions with spruced up polished graphics.
Except the pricing here in Australia means that Americans get it at 2/3 the price Aussies pay, or Aussies pay 50% more, which strikes me as odd for something that requires NO shipping, NO hard copy disc or packaging, and NO additional marketing.
On Xbox Live it costs $19.95 in the U.S. and $29.95 he..."

"Some have asked just how many damn times we can successfully repackage Resident Evil 4 (January 11, 2005).

Not only did we have several different special editions, we battled evil on the PS2 (October 25, 2005), the PC (May 15, 2007) and the Wii (June 19, 2007).

And that’s not counting the countless mobile versions of the game.

Are you ready to go back one final time? Yes? Good! As they say, fifth time’s the charm!

The ultimate Resident Evil deal for those who haven’t picked it up ..."

"“Where’s everybody going? Bingo?” Those four words started a revolution that changed the face of Resident Evil. Over a decade ago, the series surged in popularity when it stepped foot onto old cemetery grounds—that of the undead. Zombies."

Some video game characters are heroic, some sexy, others silly. And then there are these folks, who are tougher to get a handle on. Presenting the most mysterious video game characters of all time.

This is not a "best scary games of all time" list, but rather a healthy selection of genre greats that ranges from psychological thrillers to jump-scare-marathons and undead blast factories.

"Now when most people think of sexually attractive characters in gaming, they usually assume it’s only female characters. Developers know that the men of gaming also have to “look good” too. That’s why we’ve sprinkled in a couple of the hottest men in video games as well."

"When it comes to gaming, one thing is for sure, we like our female leads to be tough. The ability to kick zombie butt is always a bonus too. That's why this week we've chosen a character who's both tough and considered to be quite attractive in addition to knowing exactly how to handle herself when dealing with a possible zombie apocolypse. Like Jill Valentine before her, we've picked a lead from the world of corporations named after wet weather gear and viruses named after letters. This week..."

"After watching this rather dismal E3, I’ve come to terms with something I’ve been denying for several years: survival horror—my favorite genre in all of gaming—is on its deathbed, and despite all of my false hope, I realize the time has come to write the eulogy.

It hit me when Sony showed the trailer to DEAD SPACE 2. Now, unlike most people, I wasn’t a huge fan of the original (I know, sue me) precisely because I didn’t find it scary. Creating a loud, bombastic soundtrack and covering the ..."

"When a game of the year releases on a brand new console, people listen. People want it. We all want to experience that same enjoyment we did when we first played it, and perhaps more importantly, we all want to be able to replay that great game whenever we want. So when Capcom announced that they were working on Resident Evil 4 for the iPhone, everyone listened."

"The Resident Evil series has swept the world up in its international tale of disease, infections, and unnecessary singing characters. The series has been called one of the most important in gaming history, and the name is still a major franchise for Capcom. So out of anticipation of RE5's DLC release next month, we present…5 Facts on Resident Evil."

Resident Evil is the series that coined the term "survival horror", but in recent years the games have moved towards more action-oriented gameplay and stories, leaving the 'survival' and 'horror' behind.

While the Resident Evil franchise still manages to pull in sales, many fans feel that it has lost much of what made it such a popular series in the first place.

"Most games usually require a lot of touch-up work during their development before they're ready for release. Usually it's nothing major. A haircut for the main character here, the occasional unintentionally offensive Arabic song removed there. Some games, though, go through more than mere cosmetic changes. The following collection of titles all changed drastically during their development cycles. Sometimes for the better. Sometimes not."

A man dressed as Resident Evil's HUNK for the Crypticon Horror Convention's "zombie crawl" was recently taken into custody after bystanders mistook him for a masked gunman as he walked into the Metro Clothing store.

A dozen police cars pulled up to the scene with guns drawn. But after realizing their mistake, they issued "Jay" with a disturbance order and soon let him go.

His costume consisted of a black Umbrella Corporation security outfit, knee pads, a knife, a grenade, a gas mask, a...

""We'll definitely be looking at a lot of titles that have things like Street Fighter and Resident Evil in the title," Kramer said. "We're thinking about putting together a long list of the titles we're looking at, and then releasing it on Capcom Unity and having people vote on them. Ultimately we're looking at bringing between 20 and 40 titles to the PSN over the next several months.""

It's a topic that has come up on various gaming sites recently... Many so-called "survival-horror" titles of this generation (such as Dead Space and Resident Evil 5) are taking more action-oriented routes to attract a larger audience, thus losing the "survival" aspect that many older horror games were known for.

But is survival horror slowly disappearing? Or is it simply evolving and adaptaing to suit a more mainstream audience? And if that's the case, is this change for the better?

"It’s an accepted fact that video games aren’t real. Of course some people would like to tell you that you don’t know the difference between video games and reality (*cough* Jack Thompson of course *cough*). Well, sometimes the line is actually blurred. It would appear that video games have seeped into our reality from time to time, and it’s only a matter of days, months, or years before we have to deal with the emerging video game menace. So why not prepare ahead of time by taking a look at t..."

""Resident Evil"'s new movie, the CGI spin-off "Degeneration," is a true prequel to "Resident Evil 5." Set between the events of "Resident Evil 4" and "Resident Evil 5," this CGI film offers fans of the series just enough information to hold them over until the "RE5"'s March release. The movie even concludes with a cameo by Tricell, the already confirmed enemy corporation of "RE5." Gamers who are looking for back story on "RE5" can expect to see many features of "Degeneration" in the game."

Capcom's 'head of character contents business', Toshihiro Tokumaru, recently speaking for a piece to be featured in Capcom's Investor Relations communication, has revealed the company licensing the movie rights to Resident Evil as they did was "unfortunate".

He implies they made a poor decision in passing over all rights with the deal, thereby losing all ability to use 'any finished product'. As such, "in the future, we'd like to create films where we retain the rights".

Inspired by SomethingAwful, users on NeoGAF made a thread quite a while ago photoshopping video covers using anagrams of the video game titles. Recently the thread got bumped. Many were hoping that Capcom's Resident Evil film would pump some life back into the series, and wipe the Milla Jovovich films from our minds, and what could possible go wrong when Sony Pictures were behind it?

Well, apparently everything, as Wired have given a film a mere 3/10.

...That's still better than the Jovovich films though :D

IGN members Matt Casamassina, Mark Bozon and Lucas Thomas have compiled a list of the twenty Nintendo Wii games that every Wii gamer should own.

It's well structured listing the name, publisher, develop, whether it's Wii exclusive, an overview, a profile picture and a video.

The first game on the list is Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and the last is Excite Truck.

Most of the list is a listing of the most popular games around, however, some are quite surprising.

David Houghton over at GamesRader has composed a series of grievences directed at developers as to how they are destroying what used to be 'a proud warrior people' known as real gamers.

Various techniques and new features in gaming have made things almost 'too easy', and take away from the challenge of it.

Things like regenerative health, auto-aiming, unskipable tutorials, cut-scene boss battles, and the ability to quick save, are making things far too easy for us.

If you've been keeping tabs on the latest Resident Evil 5 trailers you would have noticed something rather ... odd. The majority of character and enemy animations are identical to Resident Evil 4. Opening doors, reloading guns, enemy deaths, jumping from ledges, etc are all the same.
Fair enough if Capcom don't want to fix what isn't broken, but there should be at least some improvement in a next-gen game. It's just lazy, otherwise.

In a recent Gamegrep article, Next-Gen previewed Fatal Frame IV detailing most of what we know about the game so far. But a small tidbit of new information regarding the gameplay is what stood out for fans of the series.
Apparently Fatal Frame IV will have similar controls and over-the-shoulder camera angles as Resident Evil 4, (which is a considerable change from the previous FF games which all had a fixed-camera and more traditional survival-horror controls). Is this the first sign of Sud...

When we play a Survival Horror game we want to feel scared. Not only for ourselves, but for the character we are playing as.

But what actually makes us scared for Survival Horror characters? Why do we want them to live through the horrors that they are faced with? And what happens if we aren't scared for them?

Chris, from Chris's Survival Horror Quest, takes a look at why gamers feel genuinely scared for their survival horror protagonists.

"Even two console generations ago we stopped batting our eyelids if games contained other, smaller games within them. It didn’t even seem odd if whole games were made up of dozens of little ones. Nowadays we use minigame mechanisms to open doors, enact fancy stealth kills, slaughter bosses or open chests. Minigames are everywhere, be it shoving boulders in Conan, coercing peasants in Oblivion or doing anything at all in Thrillville or Jackass.

Five years from now, we’d not be surprised to s..."

With Resident Evil 5 coming along, the Producer, Jun Takeuchi has gone to state how the Sixaxis controller is not a viable option for aiming in Resident Evil 5... however it should be noted that the comment is in response to a question asking if it would be possible to use the PS3 controller in a similar fashion to how the WiiMote was used in RE4: Wii Edition.

However the sensitivity issues for something like that aside, Takeuchi went on to express his fondness for the system calling it "g...

"Three sisters and a camera on a haunted island? Sounds about right.

Plot: The game is set in the mysterious Rougetsu Island, where five young girls of the Minazuki family were kidnapped in the past. Two of the girls later died, while the remaining three - Ruka, Misaki, and Madoka - have decided to visit the island in an attempt to remember what happened during that incident. The magazine reveals that players will take on the role of Ruka and venture around the mansion in the island, which..."

"Capcom has already seen massive worldwide success with both Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles on Nintendo’s immensely popular Wii console, with the duo easily surpassing a million sales each around the globe. So it was hardly any surprise to hear yet another entry into the popular survival horror franchise was on the cards. Now the developer has lifted the lid on the game by releasing the first ever trailer…

Due for release on 10th July, 2008 in Japan,..."

Capcom's very own Resident Evil 4 is currently under rumour for the production of a Classic Edition release set for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

This rumour has serviced around because of "The Horror is Alive" on the Resident Evil forum presented a video that shows Resident Evil 4 Classic Edition being played on a Xbox 360.

Though since the release of the video Capcom have shot down any claims made that they was in the process of creating Resident Evil 4 Classic Edition.

"Capcom is proud to announce that Resident Evil 4 Wii edition for the Nintendo Wii has shipped over 1 million copies worldwide.

Since the release of the first Resident Evil game in 1996, the series has shipped over 33 million units (as of October 30, 2007) and is valued as one of Capcom’s most original and cutting-edge titles worldwide. “Resident Evil 4 Wii edition” retains the overflowing intensity of the original Resident Evil 4 while bringing players a totally unique, new experience thr..."

Capcom expected around 420,000 units sold, in total, for Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition. However, just revealed today that in just over 2 months, it has almost doubled that number. It has sold more than 750,000 (three quarters of a million) units! Incredibly high sales for a port of a game that has been on 3 other platforms.

How do you think this could affect Resident Evil, and mature games in general, in the future?

As Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition cleary showed, the whole light-gun-style aspect of the Wii Remote is an especially strong gameplay aspect of Nintendo's latest hardware offering. And the recently unveiled Wii Zapper looks set to take that strength one step further. But what of alternatives to Nintendo's official peripheral? Meet the Rifle Gun Prop from DealExtreme.

If you've already played Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube or the PlayStation 2 (which included exclusive content), then the addition of Wii Remote and Nunchuk controls may not blow your skirt up in terms of the Wii Edition. However, if you've never played the game, then now, on the Wii, is very much the time.

"With week after week of lacklustre software releases on pretty much every applicable format, it would appear the only thing worth playing is the waiting game. So, another seven days roll along, another seven days are chipped off the block of time sitting between now and the virtual tsunami of top-tier titles that are set to cascade around us come the end of the summer."

"Resident Evil 4 is originally a classic GameCube title, and the GameCube was not exactly well known for its aesthetic performance muscle. With the game appearing on the Wii, gamers have been hoping for some graphical embellishments to complement the new Wii Remote gameplay enhancements. Alas, it would appear that Capcom and Nintendo haven’t taken that into consideration when engineering the Wii version."

"Those of you looking forward in spewing endless zombie gore using a Wii-mote may be in for a disappointment. Capcom introduced the wonderful crimson world of Resident Evil 4 to the Nintendo Wii on May 31 in Japan.

Importers can snag the title for 3,900 yen (that’s about $32 bucks.) But for some reason, Capcom has surprisingly decided to censor a hefty amount gore and blood from the game. Yeah, that Wii-mote massacre you were planning sounds more like a game of Warioware now.

Ignore the ..."

"While most of us can still only dream of a chance to play the Wii version of Resident Evil 4, the editors of Famitsu DS+Wii were apparently spending some quality time with the real thing long ago. The Nintendo-oriented monthly sister publication of Weekly Famitsu offered opinions on the game in its July issue, which just hit Japanese news stands today.

Judging by the scores, the Wii could have a critical hit. Two editors awarded the game a perfect 10 out of 10. The other two were still imp..."

Unfortunately this isn't up on youtube at the moment so I can't link directly, but here's the advert for the japanese version of Resident evil 4 on the Wii.

"While cute isn't a word we'd normally associate with Resident Evil, it's probably the best way we can describe the Resi 4 Wii Edition trailer that publisher/developer Capcom has just released. Point your eyes here to see exactly what we mean...

The picture perfect rent-a-bodies and their clinical show home apartment are unarguably easy on the eye, but we were mostly interested in checking out the snippets of game and, yes, it definitely is Resi 4, but with an unmistakably shaky Wii crossha..."
