GameZone's Brian Rowe explores the two recent downloadable content packages for Capcom's Resident Evil 5. The video showcases the perks and downfalls of each DLC.
Resident Evil 5 was a smash hit for Capcom when released early last year. In this review, Ian Crane from All Age Gaming looks at the latest downloadable episode for the game, Desperate Escape. Following on from the first DLC, Lost in Nightmares, is Desperate Escape worth revisiting this title once again? Find out after the jump.
"Once again gamers who simply played Resident Evil 5 will be a little out of their element but not as much as they would be in Lost in Nightmares. Resident Evil 4's style is all over Desperate Escape but in turn that's very similar to Resident Evil 5's."
Gametrailers have reviewed the recently released Resident Evil 5 DLC, Desperate Escape and Lost In Nightmares. So are they worth the $5 price tag? See below to find out...
"Whether you'll like Desperate Escape or not depends on how much action you're looking for.
If you were one of those people that didn't exactly enjoy Lost in Nightmares (I know you're out there) due to it's lack of action, then you'll be pleased to know that Desperate Escape is completely different."
All Age Gaming's Ian Crane looks at the new downloadable content for Capcom's Resident Evil 5. Is Lost in Nightmares & The Mercenaries Reunion worth the additional cost? Find out after the jump.
"Lost in Nightmares is a solid addition to the original games, and at five bucks, it is a worthy investment for fans who didn’t get their fill from the original game. While the episode may be a bit on the short side, it offers some nice replay value and great multiplayer features."
For everyone who already owns the bread and butter title, Capcom has released the new additions to Resident Evil 5 as downloadable content packs on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. The first of the new missions hit the PlayStation Network just this Thursday. Titled Lost in Nightmares, this new chapter follows BSAA Agents Chris and Jill through the original Spencer mansion on a dubious mission with a not-so-dubious climax.
"Originally meant to be in the game, this content was not finished and cut from the final version to add co-op into the game.”Lost in Nightmares” brings you back to that faithful day that Jill was said to be presumably dead and was only really shown in cut-scenes. The nostalgia is here, with an added mode via mercenaries reunion, it brings back some familiar extra’s. Fans of the series will surely want to get their hands on this."
Old school zombies make a slight return in the new Resident Evil 5: Lost in Nightmares DLC. With super scary and creepy surroundings you’re bound to love this short but fulfilling entry into the Resident Evil universe. Be scared, be very scared

"Originally made available shortly after Resident Evil 5’s PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 retail launch, Versus Mode caused quite a stir upon release. A debate raged as to whether or not the DLC was worth the asking price. Considered by many to be content that should have been included on the disc and yet by others as a welcome addition to an already brimming package, the cost of the product was of course the biggest debate. Now however, available for only a couple of pounds, few could argue of th..."
"The Resident Evil series, first released in 1996 on the Sony PlayStation, was a revolution in horror gaming. It was known for its tight camera angles, jump out of your seat moments, puzzle solving and extremely corny voice acting. Since then, the series has gone from strength to strength, including a number of spin-offs and a Hollywood movie series. The last game, Resident Evil 4, changed the series from its pre-rendered backgrounds and fixed camera angles, to an over the shoulder view in a f..."

"Overview
From the moment I loaded up RE5 Versus, I found myself fantasizing about Mercs co-op instead (which is easily better than the main game itself). This lack of fidelity assured me that Versus just can’t offer the same blissful experience the rest of the game so readily provides.
Of course, if you’re that desperate to milk the most out of your RE5 experience, be my guest. In my opinion, you’re paying five dollars for a mode that really should have been on the disc in the first pla..."
"Considered to be the best game to come out on Nintendo’s purple cube, Resident Evil 4 took the series in a bold new direction and it paid off dearly. Everyone could have guessed at that point the overhead tank controls would be abandoned and move towards this more action approach, which was a great choice. Resident Evil 5 adopts this control scheme and runs with it dropping the the scary aspects of the first titles. Some might view this as the end of the series but I view it as continuing the..."
"Overview
The game isn’t overly scary (though it definitely picks up in the later chapters), and I do miss the “THIS GAME CONTAINS SCENES OF EXPLICIT VIOLENCE AND GORE” disclaimer right before the title screen. Yet, RE5 makes up for the lack of freights with absorbing gameplay and intense arcade action.
Getting used to the clunky controls is the biggest problem, but the trick with RE5 is to learn to play it the way it’s meant to be played (e.g. use quick reload rather than reloading from..."
"From the offset, Resident Evil 5 exhibits its Current-Generation prowess; bigger, faster and brighter - though in the illumination sense only than any of its predecessors. Resident Evil 5 sprints out the gate with something to prove, and the graphical standard and cinematic presentation set by western developers are the first hurdles taken with ease."
"The long wait is finally over and Resident Evil 5 is finally out around the globe! But has Capcoms latest entry in their popular horror franchise lived up to its huge hype or is the undead series mutating too much from its origins to be true survival horror fun?
Essentially while its hard to identify the games genre as survival horror anymore, Resident Evil 5 certainly does tell a great story and gives the player hours of great action gameplay. Maybe survival action would be a be..."
"While you will rarely be frightened, you will go through the game with almost perpetual dread. Dread at what will come next. What enemy can possibly be worse than the last one? I just killed a chainsaw wielding masochist, and you want me to do it again on such short notice?
Yes. Yes it does."
Today Gametrailers reviewed the recently-released Resident Evil 5. So is it worth the buy, or is it just a retred of RE4? ...
"Online play is practically a staple in major Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 titles these days. Resident Evil 5 joins that list, and gamers already expressed much approval over the franchise revamp. The demo definitely made a lot of good impressions, but everyone knows that's not the whole story."
PlayStation Beyond reviews the Capcom's upcoming, Resident Evil 5. PlayStation Beyond criticizes the overhauled gameplay in Resident Evil 5, as it's awkward controls ruin the experience. On the other hand they commend the story of the game, as satisfying to both gamers new to the series as well as fans of the series.

"Sometimes it's hard not to be totally frustrated by Capcom. Yes, it might have created some of the single most important franchises in gaming; yes, it might be home to some of the most experienced, most talented individuals in the industry but its love of out-dated, counter-intuitive videogame "logic" and dogmatic refusal to adhere to any semblance of modern videogame standards is legendary. By and large, you know you're playing a Capcom game by the sheer number of preposterous videogame hoop..."
Gamepro have recently reviewed the upcoming 360 and PS3 game Resident Evil 5 and they were impressed, giving it an overall score of 4.5/5.
A few interesting things in the review to note are:
"- Resident Evil 5 (10/10/9/9, 38 points): "There's no dramatic change as there was from RE3 to RE4, but there's still an evolutionary process here," as one put it. "No major surprises; just an ease of play and a visual, control, and gameplay standard that's top-of-the-line," said another. And that, really, is the worst you can say about Capcom's latest, a game otherwise described as a "massive, valuable package."
- 7th Dragon (9/8/8/8, 33 points): If RE5 is Japan's big million-selling blo..."
"I have to admit that when I first heard that a feature-length CG film based on the Resident Evil video game series was being made, I was pretty skeptical. I mean, the last three live action Resident Evil movies by Paul W. S. Anderson weren't exactly spectacular (forgive me Milla). Plus, I couldn't help but remember what happened when they made the Final Fantasy video game franchise into that abhorrent CG movie that cost a bazillion dollars to make. I was wrong though. Resident Evil: Degenerat..."
Many were hoping that Capcom's Resident Evil film would pump some life back into the series, and wipe the Milla Jovovich films from our minds, and what could possible go wrong when Sony Pictures were behind it?
Well, apparently everything, as Wired have given a film a mere 3/10.
...That's still better than the Jovovich films though :D
