"JRPGs and I have never gotten on. It’s not for lack of trying; I desperately want to find the one that’s perfect for me. I’m forever searching for a game that offers the kind of epic experience a JRPG has coupled with intuitive gameplay and a story well told. Mass Effect but with the Japanese sense of flair, if you will."
"We've managed to crawl out of our own dark machines in order to record another podcast. Included in discussion this week are Dead Space 2, Little Big Planet 2, the Bulletstorm and Crysis 2 demos, Demon's Souls, Resonance of Fate, Fallout New Vegas, and more.
This week's news consists of mostly PSP2... I mean NGP. We also greet the return of user emails, and a bit of movie discussion. Stay tuned at the end of the show if you want to hear some spoiler talk about the ending of Dead Space 2. U..."
"Although one and a half members are missing for this cast, it still goes pretty well while we talk about Little Big Planet 2, Enslaved, Vanquish, Gran Turismo 5, Mafia 2, Resonance of Fate, Gal Gun, and Eve Online.
As always we cover the week in gaming news, then chat about movies including The Fighter, Tron, and Harry Potter and the Long Movie Title Part One."
"Nolan North is someone most everyone is familiar with, despite not many people knowing his name. In fact, he has been in almost every game since 2007. Well, at least his voice has. Whether it be that cat girl-laden JRPG or a mafioso hit like Mafia II, here’s some of his “better” moments."
With Halloween over, it's time to announce the winner of the thirteenth round of Articles of Excellence. Bagging another win, Dark Moor's review of Resonance of Fate is one of high praise, scoring it a 4.5/5. They describe it as a game that may lack a little in the graphics department, but makes up for that trifle by providing a gameplay that deviates from the typical RPG style in an enjoyable fashion.
"Japanese development company Tri-Ace haven’t really hit their stride yet with this generation of consoles.
The fourth installment in the Star Ocean series, released early in 2009, was an ambitious sci-fi odyssey that failed to live up to the lofty expectations gamers held for the franchise, while their new IP a year before that – Infinite Undiscovery – was about as vague and bland as its title suggested.
So it’s with well-guarded high hopes that JRPG fans have approached Resonance Of Fa..."
SEGA bring us a new Steam Punk inspired Japanese RPG. Almost the exact opposite of Final Fantasy XIII, this is a hard as nails, old school experience not for the fint hearted.
All Age Gaming's Ian Crane takes a look at another JRPG that has been thrown into the mix, Resonance of Fate. Originally named End of Eternity, does this JRPG hold any hope of competing against the likes of Final Fantasy 13? Read on to find out.
"There is a lot of content in Resonance of Fate. It can take more than 60 hours to play through the entire adventure, and if you do every side quest along the way, you can push that number much higher. But it doesn't matter how long a game is if you aren't consistently engaged along the way. Thankfully, the exciting combat and quirky story make this game incredibly difficult to put down once you get sucked in, and there is always a new challenge waiting for you around the corner. Resonance of ..."
All Age Gaming's Phong Nguyen bring's us the 34th AAG "The Week That Was". This week he discusses more information about the Playstation "Move", the confirmation and update date for the 360's external hard drive support, the Wii's current performance and more.
"Resonance of Fate is unconcerned with flashy graphics and simple systems and it's certainly not big on putting a grand story across in hours of uninterrupted cut-scenes. Instead, developer Tri-Ace has focused primarily on its battle system and its world and on these grounds, if on no other, Resonance of Fate beats Final Fantasy XIII hands down. Hungry for a new JRPG? Provided you're not scared off by complexity, this is the one to go for."
"It's not too often that you get something original out of the Japanese role-playing genre. Tradition long ago turned into cliche and still it soldiers on, bolstered by a group of hardcore enthusiasts that are always willing to tackle the next 40 hour epic. If you've lost interest in the genre over the years -- or are just in the mood for something new -- Resonance of Fate may be just what you're looking for."
A celebration of video games, giveaways, Billy Mitchell's hot sauce, and 100 episodes of Distributed Failure. The podcast has been going strong for over 2 years and this is the epic 100th episode with plenty of special guests and awesome prizes!
I'm sure many of us are familiar with the Japanese version of this infamous Resonance of Fate scene, where kooky Barbarella's boobs jiggle more than humanly possible while protagonist Vashyron does a bizarre dance in his mind.
But how did the scene fare in English? Did it translate well? Well, thank God for Nolan North is all I can say!
Tri-Ace's Resonance of Fate has high production values and a unique new battle system. The game also features some of the best gaming voice talent in the business. Head on inside to learn more about the people that voice the game and their experiences on other large scale gaming projects.
Dutch site 9Lives have reviewed Resonance of Fate, giving it an overall score of 81% and saying that the game "breathes new life into the stagnating JRPG genre" and is "a must for JRPG fans who are not afraid to dirty their hands."

"Resonance of Fate will prove to be the sensible choice. Its clumsily paced cutscenes still manage to flesh out more likeable, funnier characters than Final Fantasy XIII does, even with its Hollywood production values, and there's definitely a whole lot more to keep JRPG old-timers enthralled.
Surrender to Resonance of Fate and it's unlikely you'll wish for all those precious weeks back."
Gametrailers have released a rather in-depth review of the recently-released JRPG Resonance of Fate, and they were impressed, giving it an overall score of 8/10 and saying that "if you're looking for an RPG that breaks the norm, Resonance of Fate deserves a look."
"This is a hugely interesting game, as fascinating as it is frequently frustrating, as engaging as it is eccentric and, for those who are hooked by its quirky charms, it will provide one of the most inspired approaches to the JRPG seen in a decade."
SEGA have finally released the first ever English videos of Resonance of Fate and with such voice talent as Nolan North and Scott Menville behind the main characters, the end result is impressive...
"In four days, Sega is going to be publishing Tri-Ace's newest RPG on North American shores. The game is a steam punk, gunslinging tale about three hired guns and their adventures in a world that is essentially an environmental wasteland in which humans must live on a towering monolith to survive. The game seems like it's going to be a hit, but may end up overlooked thanks to all the coverage a certain other JRPG is getting. So, for your entertainment, and my need to advertise this game until ..."
Sega Nerds was able to get several hours of hands-on time with the final retail copy of both games. Resonance of Fate continues to buck the JRPG trend with some innovative combat mechanics, and stylistic choices, while Yakuza 3, despite having certain scenes eliminated and being translated to English, still retains its original Japanese flavor.
Gamekult recently reviewed the upcoming RPG Resonance of Fate
(known as End of Eternity in Japan) and, despite some complaints, they were mostly impressed, calling it "one of the most original titles of this generation."

"Sure, there's a new Final Fantasy game just around the bend. You might decide to go play it. Once you're done, or if you decide to skip the umpteenth entry into the premiere JRPG franchise, don't overlook Resonance of Fate. This unique role-playing game from tri-Ace, the makers of Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile, sat comfortably in the back of my mind as I looked forward to Square Enix's next epic. Then I watched the opening cinematic... and now I'm hooked. Final Fantasy XIII will have to wai..."
"End of Eternity (to be called Resonance of Fate when it arrives in North America next month) is an unassuming-looking game. It might be tempting to overlook it in light of the upcoming barrage of RPGs, and some pieces of the game are overlookable, but passing End of Eternity by means missing out on a fantastically fun battle system and surprisingly good overall package."
RPGFan have reviewed the upcoming RPG Resonance of Fate (known as End of Eternity in Japan) and they were impressed, giving it an overall score of 88% and saying that "even with the gripes, EoE is more than worthy of your time."
They even went so far as to call it "a better game than Final Fantasy XIII!"

Ever since SEGA estimated that Resonance of Fate would be released sometime near Final Fantasy XIII, RPG fans have been hoping the company would change their minds and give the game a more suitable release date.
Unfortunately, that isn't going to happen.
SEGA have officially revealed the US release date for Resonance of Fate is March the 17th.
Resonance of Fate's Leanne (known as Reanbell in Japan) doesn't exactly have a way with words, but nonetheless, she has wished gamers a Happy Valentine's Day and offered them some "weird looking" home-made chocolates that her buddies Vashyron and Zephyr didn't want.
Err... thanks, I think?
Read below for her Valentine messages.
"RoF could prove to be a pretty entertaining title. The magazine gave it a pretty impressive 34 points out of a total of 40, a better mark than the game's direct competition for the week, the Ar Tonelico 3 RPG, which only managed to get 28 points.
"Every battle requires you to consider how far you are from the enemy and how to link combos with party members, making it very strategic throughout," one of the editors wrote. "It's a difficult system and it won't appeal to everyone, but I think..."
When swimwear and gaming mix, the results are usually meant to be sexy. But Resonance of Fate is taking a different route, giving the characters some of the most disturbing (or is that hilarious?) swimwear costumes you'll ever see in a game.
The giant animal outfits are a completely different matter alltogether.
Yep, Resonance of Fate is certainly shaping up to be a humorous JRPG experience.
Resonance of Fate is already looking like it will be a solid title, but if you aren't convinced it'll be an RPG worth playing, maybe Barbarella's...interesting breast physics and tough-guy Vashyron doing a sexy dance will sway your opinion?
Then again, maybe not! :D
How this will be successfully translated into English is beyond me.
The Japanese version of Resonance of Fate (also known as End of Eternity) was released in Japan yesterday, so here is the trophy list for the game. (No doubt the Achievements list will be the same).
Maybe it makes more sense to people who own the game, but the trophies are kind of... confusing.

Resonance Of Fate (known as "End of Eternity" in Japan) is just around the corner, and based on its gorgeous screenshots, dramatic CGI trailers, and fast-paced gameplay, the upcoming RPG looks absolutely stunning. And now, here is the gorgeous pre-title screen opening video. (Is it just me, or does it vaguely remind anyone else of the beginning of Final Fantasy IX?)...
After a long drought, an abundance of Japanese role-playing games will be heading to the Playstation 3 in full force this year. So which upcoming JRPGs will be worth picking up?
Resonance of Fate already has an impressive amount of optional costumes and character customizations, and even more are still to come!
Today, SEGA revealed the console exclusive costumes for the game. The Xbox 360 outfit is based on the dresses worn by Microsoft's booth babes at last year's Tokyo Game Show, while the Playstation 3 outfit is printed with little pictures of Sony Japan's mascot, Toro.
Despite its unfortunate release date (the same day as FFXIII's release), Resonance of Fate is starting to look like one of the more promising JRPGs of this generation. Personally, I'm loving the steampunk style.
Here is the newest batch of screenshots for the game.

"With the possible exception of unexplainable, extraordinary inspiration, the factors which define a game’s quality are roughly quantifiable. The success of a game, however, involves slightly more chance, as the variables are less precise. When is the best time to launch a new PS3 exclusive FPS? Is there a market for fighting games on the Wii? The Western audience likes Final Fantasy – shouldn’t it like other Japanese RPGs? These answers can be approximated with figures and graphs and surveys ..."
Although the recently released Resonance of Fate demo was positively recieved by many sites, there were some gamers who felt it was too difficult to play.
The game's director Takayuki Suguro has now apologized for the demo's difficulty, explaining that a tutorial mode had to be cut from the demo as they were unable to spend too much time on creating it.
A Resonance of Fate batle system demo was released yesterday and is already recieving positive reviews. It looks like Tri-Ace's attempt at reinventing the turn-based batle system might be a successful one.

Tri-Ace hasn't had much luck this generation, with many of their games recieving average reviews, so gamers have approached their upcoming RPG Resonance of Fate with wariness despite the game looking quite promising. Well, we'll finally get to see whether it's is worth playing next week.
A playable demo for Resonance of Fate will be released on the Japanese PSN and Xbox Live stores on December 22nd.
No news on when the US and European demos will be released yet.
The Japanese Resonance of Fate box art is pretty. The US box art...not so much.
I don't know if it's the characters' strange poses, or the fact that they seem to be placed randomly onto the cover, or the bizarrely high positioning of the text, or a mix of all three, but something doesn't look right.
"Barbarella is described by Famitsu as “Sexy Dynamite.” I disagree. I’m just not as into the “pale elf girl that looks somewhere between a vampire and a white railing with huge earrings and whose outfit makes her look like her abdomen has been ripped apart” look as Famitsu people must be. Her outfit was apprently handpicked by the cardinal. (Oho, the churches are gonna love this game.) Also she loves meat and wine.

"For the first part of this generation’s life cycle there was not a lot for the PS3 in terms of RPG’s. The PS3 now has a few gems with Valkyria Chronicles and Disgaea 3, as well as a former Xbox exclusive in Eternal Sonata. With age the PlayStation 3 seems like more attractive platform for RPG developers and publishers.
Next year marks a great year in terms of Role Playing Games with the big boys Square-Enix finally releasing Final Fantasy XIII, XIII Versus and XIV. While the Final Fantasy ..."

Today SEGA's mysterious Resonance of Fate (End of Eternity in Japan) count up clock came to a stop. It looks like it was counting up to the game's Japanese release date. The clock stopped at 1/28 meaning Resonance of Fate will see a release on January 28th.
Also, the developers have released a batch of screenshots, showing some of the customizable outfits that will appear in the game.

I guess creating Twitter accounts for fictional characters is the 'in' thing now? SEGA recently created a Twitter account for each of the three main characters in Tri-Ace's upcoming RPG Resonance of Fate. The Twitters are all written in Japanese, and at the moment there isn't alot of interesting content or new info on the game. Although we have learned a few interesting tid-bits, such as Vashyron announcing that he "lives for his belief that God doesn't exist", and Zephyr revealed that he bel...

If you haven't been happy with the length of many games this generation, then Resonance of Fate might be the game for you. It's a JRPG so naturally it's going to be long, but according to the makers, a "standard" play-through will last between 50 and 80 hours, while a complete play-through will last you over 150 hours.
