Rise of the Argonauts

Rise of the Argonauts

"It’s Boxing Day- and, as tradition dictates, it’s the day you’ll be receiving not only the obligatory two turtle doves but also, luckily for you, the second instalment of Electronic Theatre’s 2009 Twelve Games of Christmas. This feature series aims to highlight some of the industry’s top achievers from each month of 2009, with this second instalment tackling February, and to bring you the top-picks for those January sale bargains!"

"Though gamers may be aware of the title, previous coverage has been somewhat misleading. Those imagining a God of War-influenced Scrolling Beat-‘Em-Up will find themselves moving at a considerably slower pace than previously expected. The relation to Sony’s highly respected series lies purely in the aesthetic, as Rise of the Argonauts is less about the killing than the reasoning behind it."

"The name ‘Jason’ is from Greek origin, meaning “healer”. It has been considered an English name since the 17th Century, yet – whilst it consistently ranks as one of the US’s most popular names – its popularity has faded in the UK over recent years, dropping down out of the top 50."

"Having first heard of Rise of the Argonauts early in 2008, I was somewhat intrigued as to when I was going to be able to play out one of the most well known stories in Greek mythology. It was then somewhat disappointing to find out the game had been pushed back to an undetermined date in 2009.

Then, almost as if on a whim, Atari released Rise of The Argonauts a week before Christmas, which isn't the best time to release a new IP, let alone one that had not had a great deal of pre-release P..."

"...since the game is coming close to its release date for the Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3, Codemasters has released some shiny new screenshots that are definitely worth a look."

"Exactly a year ago I wrote about the problems with online gaming over Xbox Live and I want to revisit that topic to ask if anything has changed in that time. With suggestions that Microsoft is set to try and end a lot of the abuse on Live, probably this coming year, it is a good time to ask the online gamers out there what they think.

Don't worry, your order is still live and will be despatched prior to its release date via your chosen method of delivery."

With Rise of the Argonauts being delayed in the US, and to celebrate the launch of the game in the UK, Codemasters have released two new trailers for the game titled "Honour the Gods" and "Levelling", as well as a number of screenshots.

"Further expanding its global drive, Codemasters today announced that it will be fully supporting the Russian language localisation of all its upcoming key ‘AAA’ titles, including Rise of the Argonauts, Damnation and, for the first time on next-gen consoles, the eagerly anticipated war simulator due for launch in 2009, Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising.

The announcement comes as a continuation of..."

"Codemasters has told Eurogamer that action role-playing game Rise of the Argonauts has slipped out of November. The plan, however, is still to launch before Christmas.

That leaves a rather small window in early December - in a Christmas period already stuffed with two of the biggest RPGs of this generation. No reason was given for the hold up.

The publisher also explained there will be no demo, as chopping the sprawling story into pieces for the sake of a 10 or 15 minute sampler would a..."

"Most role-playing games follow a familiar pattern– kill enemies, get experience points, level up, buy abilities, repeat. While this loop is tried and true, it’s also characterless. Everything is based on combat, and very little draws on the choices that the player has been making – choices that are core to an RPG experience.

In Rise of the Argonauts, Jason progresses by increasing his Favour with his four patron gods – Ares, Athena, Apollo, and Hermes. Instead of merely gathering experienc..."

An Action RPG set to be released on the Playstation 3 and XBOX360, the little knowledge that we have about this game is that it will have something to do with the Greek Argonauts... and that's pretty much a bout it.

However now we have been given a bit more information thanks to CVG who have managed to get a preview of the game.

Key Points:

  • You play as the rookie 'King Jason'
  • The epic journey begins in Alceme's hometown
  • Most (if not all) NPC's that you chat to will have something to ...
