"LOS ANGELES -- One of the hottest trends in video games is one of the oldest pastimes of the human race.

A virtual symphony of music-playing games will soon be lining store shelves as game publishers and console makers try to capitalize on the growing popularity of the genre. The latest is from Nintendo Co., which unveiled its "Wii Music" game here at the E3 video game convention Tuesday.
In almost every genre of game, if you see a big spike, it's largely attributable to one or two titles..."

11/07/08: GamingVerdict.com's Week in the Life of the Xbox 360

jam_sponge | 12 days 6 hours ago | News | XBOX 360  | views: 1123
"Oh man… no full retail releases for you this week, readers. Indeed, the schedule is empty until next month here in the UK. On the plus side that means you’ve now got the chance to pick up some summer bargains, revisit some old favourites or just bump up that gamerscore, but any of you looking for anything new and exciting will have a wait on your hands. It rather scuppers anyone who writes a weekly 360 article for a popular new gaming website. Bugger."

Konami is demanding cash compensation, plus an order that would block Viacom and Harmonix from using the inventions, according to the complaint, filed yesterday in federal court in Marshall, Texas. The suit names H..."

Not likely to see Led Zeppelin songs in music games

Deathsythe | 16 days 7 hours ago | News | PC Playstation 2  | views: 2389
"There's little doubt that the artist line-up for Rock Band 2 is shaping up nicely. Guitar Hero is getting some nice exclusives as well. With Journey, Boston, Metallica, The Who and other top tier acts lending their tunes to the dominant rhythm games, there aren't many superstars left to cross off the list.

One of the artists that continues to elude both Activision and Harmonix is Led Zeppelin. It's been chalked up to a lengthy licensing process, but a recent write-up from the Wall Street J..."

Use Rock Band Drum Kit as a Drum Machine

Smoke | January 18, 2008 | News | PC Playstation 2  | views: 6769
"Drum Machine is a Windows app that allows you to play your Rock Band drums (once "hacked" for Windows) as if it were a real electronic drumset. Drum Machine uses input from the drumset to play "samples" that you assign to each pad. It comes with a few drum samples already, but you can add as many as you want (up to 1024), since they are simply WAV files. Drum Machine also allows you to record yourself, save it to file, and play it back or send it to a friend."

Retailer selling delayed Rock Band for $500 in Canada

mistermostyn | December 21, 2007 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360  | views: 4172
"Edmonton-based Play Me Games has taken stock of around 50 units of Rock Band from a broker in the states and is presently selling the game for a whopping $500. While such a price would frighten off most consumers, demand for Rock Band is so high that Play Me Games saw more than half of its supply flying from the store by yesterday afternoon."

Activision Demands Money for Rock Band Patch

MondoPest | December 20, 2007 | News | Playstation 3  | views: 2704
"Activision spokesperson Maryanne Lataif was quoted in saying, 'Unfortunately for Rock Band users, Harmonix has been unwilling to discuss an agreement that will allow us to provide that option in a manner that maintains the high standards people have come to expect from Activision'. Basically, Harmonix hasn't been willing to discuss paying us an extremely large amount of money (rough translation)."

Along with this morning's weekly dose of DLC, EA and Harmonix seem to be tinkering with the website a bit. Visiting rockband.com just shows a splash page asking visitors to "check back in a few for an new community experience!" Something about that screams "MAJOR UPDATE" to me.

Rock Band's 'Punk Pack' DLC Goes Live

KujasSilverDragon | December 13, 2007 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360  | views: 3188
"Today, a new "Punk Pack" joins the customizable experience, letting those who are about to rock do up their hair and spit at the establishment.

The pack follows the others and goes for 440 MS points, or $5.50 in normal human money. If you'd rather buy the individual tracks, they'll run you at 160 points ($2). Giving money to a large corporation in exchange for music, which is essentially just a collection of ideas?! This is not the punk way! Then again, strumming a plastic toy guitar proba..."

Rockband Gets A Healthy Dose of David Bowie

Gothic Girl | November 27, 2007 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360  | views: 4406
"Bowie is good. This is a universal fact. Singing, of course, but also acting (Labyrinth, The Prestige), and lending his creative influence, voice, and likeness to video games (Omikron: The Nomad Soul). While the Bowie pack for Rock Band, available today via Xbox Live Marketplace, might not contain my personal favourite Bowie tunes, it is Bowie and that's good enough for me. Well, technically it's Bowie. Two of the three songs in the 440 point pack - Queen Bitch and Heroes - are cover versions..."

It was something we really wanted in there but the time to do it (and do it right taking into account all sorts of mostly unforeseen but very important things) was seriously prohibitive. And below, I have all the awesome games that didn’t make it on the list. Obviously game release dates are subject to game publishers dart boards, so all games are what I at least think is coming out in November."
