"There’s nothing more charming than a neat little independent game that has charm and style… except for these lot. Disappointments would be understatements since some of them have killed potential sequels with their abysmal performances."

Making its return after 15 years, Rocket Knight on XBLA, PSN and Steam provides gamers a nostalgic blast from the past when mascot driven 2D side-scrolling platformers ruled the industry. While there is a lot to like about Rocket Knight the price tag is its own worst enemy. Check out Eric Galaviz’s (of spawnkill.com) review of Rocket Knight and see why some might be willing to drop $15 for the downloadable title while others may not be so willing.

"Well here we are, the 10th visit to my Arcade Asylum. It’s been emotional, hasn’t it? We’ve experienced laughter, heartbreak, and a whole lot of obscurity, all in minuscule doses every fortnight. There’s no time for celebration though, it’s business as usual this week, as the summer kicks into action and the arcade world is hit with a slew of titles that aim to tickle your fancy."

"Rocket Knight is a reboot of the Rocket Knight Adventures series which started on Sega Genesis but also came to other systems such as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Can Rocket Knight for Playstation Network bring new hope to the series or will the cult classic just move back under the radar?"

"Difficult week of games this week but not because there is a lack of new titles to choose from. There is actually a number of tough choices this week for just about every game platform."

"Priced at $15 (or 1200 Microsoft Points) on the Xbox Live Arcade and Steam, Rocket Knight has a steep entry price. There are times when Rocket Knight shines and is reminiscent of the good ol’ days of Saturday morning cartoons. On the other end of the spectrum, it’s a shallow, one-off title that once it is completed, will fade from memory."

"Xbox 360 owners get their choice between an anthropomorphic opossum with a jet pack or R.C. car racing with two new additions this week to Xbox Live Arcade. Rocket Knight makes its return to the gaming world while Things on Wheels tries to up the ante on its predecessor, Mad Tracks."

This weeks edition of Now Shipping will bring a return and sequel extravaganza. Skate 3, Lost Planet 2 and much more. Check out what the second week of May has to offer.

It's been kind of weird to see a lack of releases on the Wii and DS the last couple of weeks. Really not much there. Of course, it has also been odd to see the number of new releases on the PS3 and 360 during a time of year that typically doesn't get much in the way of games period. Spring is the new Christmas!

Konami has revealed the price tag (along with some new screens) for their upcoming downloadable PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 platforming game, Rocket Knight.

The release dates for the PC, Xbox 360 (via Xbox Live Arcade) and Playstation 3 (via Playstation Network) versions of Rocket Knight have been revealed.

"Rocket Knight is a game very much in the same vein as its predecessor, offering the same variety of action-packed 2D platforming, albeit with a noted graphical boost. The game plays smoothly and runs well, meaning that fans of old-school games and newcomers alike are bound to have a great time with this Rocket Knight."

"In Rocket Knight, players assume the role of Sparkster, a heroic opossum who returns home to the Kingdom of Zephyrus after 15 years only to discover that wolves have attacked his homeland. Rocket Knight introduces expansive new worlds to the franchise, with massive platform levels as well as rocket-flying levels. Using their wits and a trusty rocket pack, players must overcome the hostile wolf army aiming to attack Sparkster’s beloved kingdom."

First footage for the upcoming Rocket Knight revival is in today. Looks pretty good to us though perhaps a more traditionally animated style would've served the game better, but no matter.

The trailer also gives us some gameplay from the original game, for those not familiar.

In related news, the game has also just been confirmed for PC, at least for Valve's Steam network.
