THQ is set to announce that they have laid off an additional 170 employees. The news comes shortly after announcements of increased layoffs and possible studio closures by the company, which has had a bumpy ride over the last few weeks. Independent industry executive Kevin Dent was first to break the story with the following tweet: "This is probably going to break in the morning, I have sat on it for a weeks or so. The culling at THQ was 170+ souls including Mark DeLoura." Dent later tweeted ...
Even though its 2012 there are plenty of games to fill the early year void. The best part of this that so many of these games are less then $20. Games like GTA IV, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Saints Row 2, Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3, and lots of others. There are plenty of other games that offer a lot of bang for your buck.
Saints Row The Third may be the perfect sandbox game from this generation of consoles. There is just so much to do that the average gamer could spend 40+ hrs in the game. Volition and THQ have done a great job. The game is fun, addicting, full of customization, and it doesn't take itself seriously. Hopefully Rockstar takes notes from Saints Row: The Third.
Xbox 360 has done a really great job with cooperative game plays in many of the most popular games like Halo, Left 4 Dead, Gears of war and many others. Microsoft xbox 360 has worked hard to bring more and more co-op games to the xbox 360. Here is a brake down of the top 10 co op games.
There are good drunk and bad drunk. Though it's obvious that there's more bad drunks. Look at these top eight characters as they get loaded with liquor. Don't worry, these virtual characters can't die from intoxication.
"This week the absence of David does not shake BonusEXP's foundations. ZombiePie from the Giant Bomb community joins Pat and Andy this episode.
A mountain of games are discussed as usual, including but not limited to: Mafia 2, Shank, Metro 2033 PC demo, Halo 3 and Quake 1 multiplayer, Saint's Row 2, and Battlefield Bad Company. Your experience may vary. Gaming news is also discussed, as well as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (the movie)."
"Both Amazon and GameStop are listing “Saint's Row Platinum - 2 Pack” for the Xbox 360. According to the GameStop listing, the compilation will come with Saints Row and Saints Row 2 on separate DVD discs in a “single standard DVD case.”"

A year ago now, I posted an article concerning the possibility of a de Blob sequel. Now in 2010, President and CEO of THQ, Brian Farrell, has announced that de Blob will be seeing its return in 2011. Check out the link to read more, including the mention of new stuff for Saints Row, among others, as well.
"As of posting, the band's website reads:
We may not like playing video games all that much but we do like it when our music is featured on them! Makes us a bit proud even when it's a game as big as Saints Row for the PSP and even prouder when the nice developer people show excellent taste by picking "The Lotus Eater" for it. So if you love playing video games: the game is expected to hit the streets around March 2010."
"Some new DLC for Saints Row 2 is about to release on your Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 this week, now with less Tera Patrick. The new DLC “Corporate Warfare” will be available May 28th, for 560 MSP or $7. It features new vehicles, multiplayer maps, customization options, achievements and more."
"omparisons are made constantly within the gaming industry, from both gamers and critics alike. We often compare different games and franchises in order to determine which is the greatest for that particular genre. It therefore comes as no surprise when we talk about ‘heavyweights’ within the industry – specifically, particular developers and certain franchises which are hailed as leaders … or bench-setters for a certain genre."
"Consider this: You've got Tera Patrick on speed dial. She's unloading an assault rifle into a Masako super soldier while you're driving around a truck full of dead bodies. In your garage you've got an armored vehicle that fires heat-seeking missiles as fast as you can pull the trigger… and you're wearing a new alien costume. Honestly, WTF is going on here?
To most people this sounds insane, but to the residents of Stilwater this is Tuesday."

"If you're married make sure your wife isn't in the same room with you, otherwise you could be sleeping on the couch for the next couple of weeks. If you have a girlfriend it would be best if she weren't with you while checking out these trailers, otherwise you might not getting any late night "snacks" for about a month. And if you're not old enough to close your bedroom door, you probably aren't old enough to be watching these trailers. But for the mature minded youth, you better not let your..."
"An object's visual design and intended purpose should work together. And while this may seem like common sense, many developers fail to recognize the need to follow such concept. This is most evident in open world games like Mass Effect and Grand Theft Auto 4. Most if not all open world games can fall into two categories, beautiful and aimless or ugly and purposeful."

THQ's CEO Brian Farrell, has given a talk at the BMO Capital Markets Interactive Entertainment Conference to take a look at their goals for the next several months. The main concept, "fewer, higher-quality games".
They're going to do this by looking at the areas they detailed being "core market, kids' games, family games, the female audience, and online gaming". Note how they made females a separate category.
The main focus is core gaming, which everyone knows is the biggest thing arou...
Today Gametrailers reviewed the recently-released Saints Row 2 and were overall impressed with the end result, having only a few minor niggles that dropped some points from the final score ...
"Is Saints Row 2 a heavenly nod or a trip through tired cliches?"
"They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If that is true then Volition Inc. (and by associated THQ) are downright besotted by Rockstar Games. Such is the similarity between Saints Row 2 and the all conquering behemoth that is Grand Theft Auto 4. I am sure that just as many with be put off by its GTA-alike approach as are enthused, but it would be a great shame if punters were not to look past the similar stylings and mechanics to see what lies underneath. Because this is no..."
Well Saints Row 2 isn't a month old, and THQ-Volition are out selling a "new direction" for Saints Row 3 . . Yes, the next iteration will, supposedly be something different and much more in the tome we had expected Saints Row 2 to be in . .which they had promised with Saints Row 2 . .
Come check out the story and discuss your thoughts at OXCGN . . .
Destructoid give us a list of 10 reasons to why SR2 (Saints Row 2) is more superior to Grand Theft Auto IV (GTAIV).
With GTAIV being so over hyped and pretty much every review out there giving it a high score, some people became scared to say it just wasn't really 'that' good. Although that doesn't mean it wasn't a good game and people didn't enjoy it since some people where happy with GTAIV's new turn.
Many people say when Rockstar made this title far more realistic than it's predecess...
In this week's installment of Zero Punctuation; Yahtzee tackles Saint's Row 2, a game that has faced some serious scrutiny by Law Enforcement Agencies such as the NYPD.
Also - is it just me, or does he not seem to be speaking as fast this week?
Here's an old tidbit that got lost in the shuffle: Saints Row 3 is already underway. Much like Media Molecule and LittleBigPlanet, looks like Volition ain't wasting any time, and can't wait to improve on the new game -- this according to Associate Producer Dan Sutton. Oh, and it's going to cost 600 million.
"People have been constantly asking me whether Saints Row 2 is better than Grand Theft Auto 4. It's a question I hate. To me it is just like asking whether Burnout Paradise or Forza 2 is better, they may have similarities, but they are vastly different games.
Yet if I had to answer the question I would really have to say that both do some things better than each other. A better question would be which title did I have more fun with, and the answer to that my friends, would be Saints Row 2 b..."
Popular Australian review show Good Game recently reviewed Saints Row 2 and they were impressed, giving the game an overall score of 10/10 and 9/10 respectively.
If you were disappointed with Grand Theft Auto IV, then you might be more satisfied with what Saints Row 2 has to offer ...
Discuss in the Saints Row 2 forum
"The game as a whole is clearly a simple upgrade of everything which had been seen in the original title. The Combat System has been adorned with Finishing Moves, the world features minimal Loading delays and the story-based Missions provide a pleasing variety of objectives. Some may have argued that the first Saints Row lacked character..."
Another day another mindless attack on videogames. Today's target is the game Saints Row 2, which the New York Police Union wants removed from shelves because you can steal, do drugs and kill police officers. Apart from the fact this would be censorship and in my opinion very wrong they also claim that the M rating is not accurate. That this game is too mature for 15-17 year olds. Hear that? Apparently these guys know better than the ESRB!
"One of the biggest things this game has going for it is its online play. Players can hop online and play the entirety of the campaign with a co-op partner. Unfortunately, there is no local co-op support; the days of split-screen action seem to be numbered. But I digress. Players can also participate in up to 12-player multiplayer battles that are either kill or objective-based. Online multiplayer functions smoothly, and the mix of modes will definitely keep gamers' guns blazing."
"Saints Row 2 is a wholly different beast from GTA. If one were to compare it to any game in that other series, it most closely mirrors San Andreas. But where Carl Johnsons saga offered a shift towards more mundane, real-world connections, Saints Row 2 heads in the opposite direction by delivering such blatantly over-the-top satire that it borders on parody. That was pretty much the point of the first game and things are elevated to the Nth degree in this sequel, with more missions and act..."
There had been some confusion previously as to whether or not there would be trophies in Saints Row 2 or not, however it seems this has been cleared up with an official word given:
"Saints Row 2
* Genre: Game
* Sub Genre: Action
* Release date: 17 October 2008
* Format: Playstation 3 Game
* Certificate: 18
* Price: £15.97"
If you've recently read IGN's Review for Saints Row 2 (and at this point, I should remind you that this is the very same site that gave GTAIV 10/10) you may have spotted the sentence:
quotewhich inevitably created a lot of confusion around as to whether or not the PS3 version of the game will have trophies or not, especially after Volition previously said that Sony are pushing them to add unique trophie...The only small detail that was left out seems to be trophies for the PS3 fans of the world.
"That's Saints Row 2 – possibly the most diverse sandbox action game available – and one that is entirely aware at all times that it's coming in after Rockstar's heavyweight champion. Volition has benefitted from years of other games that have come and gone, each contributing to the genre's gameplay bit by bit. Because of this, if GTA IV did a few key things extraordinarily well, then Saints Row 2 offers ten-fold the gameplay at the expense of refinement, bugs and structural originality...."
Not really often you see computer-made naked ladies streaking, but Saints Row 2 is now giving you that privilege, courtesy of some leaked footage.
The Grand Theft Auto series has always been associated with great music, especially after the masterpiece that was Vice City, but could Saints Row 2 be the one to knock GTA off the top spot, once and for all ?
It does have The Final Countdown by Europe after all...
If anyone has played GTA4 Multiplayer online, you'll probably notice the multiple modes to choose from. But that can be a problem cause some just don't know what to choose from or as Patrick Klepek, on his blog, likes to call "attention deficit disorder".
How does Saints Row 2 fix this disorder you ask? Simple instead of having multiple mods, we have them all in one mode called "Strong Arm". Which means the objective may change while you're doing a particular objective.
Well if anythin...
"We have just added the Achievements for Saints Row 2 on the Xbox 360. The list rewards players for completing the game and its side missions in single player and co-op. The list reveals some new side missions including Fight Club, FUZZ and Heli Assault. A lot of the achievements are references such as Wheres My Car? a reference to the film: Dude, Wheres My Car. There are also a few online achievements as well as ten secret achievements."
With Saints Row 2 edging closer to release in mid-October, Eurogamer have managed to get a Hands-on experience of the game. Giving you detailed information about what they did in the game, the game is looking to have surpassed even GTAIV.
It's been rumoured for a while that a co-op mode would be included with Saints Row 2 and THQ have today confirmed the rumours. There will be a co-op mode but whats more is that there will be a "drop in/drop out, untethered, go anywhere, do anything dressed as a ninja (or clown, or pirate, or hot dog ......) co-op gameplay". You can watch the trailer of the co-op mode below:
The latest Saints Row 2 trailer featuring Uncle Gary has been released and this time, he's here to talk about costumes. So grab a police badge and start messin' up the town!
The annual E3 Media & Business Summit, known as E3 is coming up soon between 15-17 July. There will be new games and announcements, but that's not all! Major game producers will be spreading big news, so be sure to take a look.
Gamespot have listed the games they're most anticipating and what will be seen at E3. The list includes the following: "Lego Batman", "Resident Evil 5", "Resistance 2", "Saints Row 2", "Soulcalibur IV", "Spore" (yes Spore!)... see the source for more.
THQ must be feeling pretty confidant about Saints Row 2 right now, not only have they mocked there biggest competitor Grand Theft Auto 4 in one of their trailers but now in the ULTOR trailer a eagle eyed viewer has spotted a convenient bill board bearing the slogan "RED RING OF DEATH" Stop the video at 1.02 to see it.
It's not something that you see everyday - Saints Row 2 making fun out of GTAIV. Since the first Saints Row was released, it was often remarked as a 'GTA Clone' but now they're trying with all their might to one up the GTA and be even better, and from the looks of the video they may be doing just that...
"Last week THQ revealed a delay behind one of its bigger titles for the year, Saints Row 2. The publisher cited both marketing and product quality concerns for moving the game to October 14, but Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey thinks the delay is a sign of larger internal conflict.
"We expect there is likely an internal conflict at THQ, a corporate / artistic balancing of issues," he noted. "The corporate issue is likely a singular focus on salvaging their fiscal '09 financial performan..."
GameStop had a placement for Saints Row 2 under the PC category and today, representatives of THQ confirmed that Saints Row 2 is under development for the PC. In SR 2, co-op mode will extend through the campaign mode so two players can play through the whole story mode online together, as well as other new features. Saints Row 2 will ship on October 14th for the PS3 and 360 and GameStop also has the PC version of SR2 shipping October 14th and THQ reps said GameStop is accurate.
THQ has announced that they are delaying Saints Row 2 because of product quality and marketing considerations, a senior executive of THQ said. This means that Saints Row 2 will be released in THQ's fiscal third quarter instead of their second, but it will not effect THQ's financial outlook for the fiscal 2009 year said Bob Aniello, who is the senior vice president of worldwide marketing for THQ.
What would we do if it wasn't for Uncle Gary? Not do the dangerous and crazy stunts as shown in the videos below is what... Here's the latest two videos for Saints Row 2 showing firstly, how to throw people, and the second how to blow them up... have fun learning...
Second video can be found at the source.
"THQ has revealed that Saints Row II will hit UK stores on August 29th.
The game is due for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, for a price of £44.99, £49.99 and £34.99 respectively."
THQ have announced at their Gamers Day event in San Francisco that Saints Row 2 will be hitting the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 on August 26th for North America. It is however not known if this release date will be the same for the European gamers waiting for this to hit.
In anticipation to this release date though you should hope to hear more information about this game soon including news screenshots and gameplay.

Five new screen shots have been released by THQ for their latest title, Saints Row 2, take a look at the below, and be sure to discuss them in the forums.
"They are also going for a darker tone in the main storyline this time around. Your character is coming back after being left for dead, and he is looking for a little payback this time around. Volition says that you will see some of the humor from the first game make a return, but it will just have a more sinister feel to the game overall."
