"Finnish software development company, Futuremark Corporation is best known for its several benchmark applications, such as the popular 3DMark series; however, back in late 2009 they released a fairly well-received first-person shooter: Shattered Horizon. Steam’s Daily Deal sees the game discounted at 75% off for fans of space-shooters. Prepare yourself for intense zero gravity combat, and awesome online action."
"The games aside, I have to add that this is a fantastic way for companies to leverage the strengths of online distribution. Given how easy wrappers are to hack, time-limited access to full versions of games would be impossible for physical distribution. Instead, this is sort of like showing off your game at a convention, but with a minimum of travel time and setup."
"Shattered Horizon grows up today as it is crowned the winner of the DIYgamer.com Indie Tournament that has been running since April.
The list of contenders was steep—games vying for the top spot included Trine, Braid, Torchlight, World of Goo, Defense Grid, Beat Hazard, and Sexy Hiking."
"Futuremark Games Studio revealed a trailer for the upcoming Dlc of the PC FPS Shattered Horizon. We can see in the trailer the Firepower Weapons Pack which will propose new weapons and grenades. This Dlc aims at dynamising the game and to give gamers the opportunity to play different styles of gameplay. New tactics are about to come so you can think strategies on different ways."
Today Futuremark announced a May 5th release date for their Firepower DLC which will bring new weapons to the zero-gravity space combat game. A trailer and teaser site were revealed that will announced a new weapon every day until May 5th.
While Shattered Horizon is an interesting and extremely challenging FPS, one major complaint has been the lack of anything other than the basic rifle. Futuremark is out to remedy that with the announcement of their second free DLC, entitled "Firepower", which will bring new guns and grenades to the game.
Futuremark announces a Shattered Horizon contest that rewards players for various feats of in-game derring-do and creativity. Contests range from simple "play at this time" random drawings to complicated "make a video" judged competitions.
While only having been released for two weeks, Futuremark is already upholding their promise of free DLC for the zero-G space shooter Shattered Horizon with their announcement of the free "Moonrise" content pack.
Pricing, release date, DLC, and dedicated server information for Shattered Horizon was announced today. In addition, a 10% pre-order discount was confirmed.
"“PCs are rapidly leaving the consoles behind when it comes to graphical capabilities. Because Shattered Horizon is being developed exclusively for the PC we haven’t had to make any compromises. Everything, from graphics and controls, through to the interface and dedicated server support, has been designed for PC gamers who love to play FPS games.”"
