Part two of a rant that I posted last week. I'm ranting about stereotypes in the MMO Genre that do more harm to games than good. I also take the time to point out games that are smacking these tropes in the face. You should definitely read part one before reading part two.
This rant points out some of the more pervasive annoyances in the MMO genre, and shows how some companies are doing it right. Part 1 of a 2 part series.
"Can’t wait to dive into Cataclysm? Is the anticipation for The Old Republic killing you? Or, are you just bitter after the train wreck that is Final Fantasy XIV? The number of free-to-play MMOs is staggering, and finding the good ones is quite a challenge. Don’t worry, my top five free-to-play MMOs will not only help you save some green, but also make sure you’re getting top-notch gameplay and entertainment."
"I’ve noticed that many of the more ardent collectors often have a focus in their collection; games from a particular platform, genre, or publisher, for instance. I’ve never cared to do this until recently when I was hit with a thought: I want to collect every Megami Tensei game. I’m not entirely sure why I decided on this, but it seems like a good idea. I’ve enjoyed the games I’ve played, and I think it will be a challenging, but attainable, goal."
"The closed-beta for Aeria Games upcoming MMORPG, Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine Online, has gone over quite well. The successful closed-testing was so popular, in fact, the open-beta has been left completely open to the public with no price-tag or subscription fee in sight."
North American fans (And PAL region alike) of the Shin Megami Tensei can fret no more about Japan gaining exclusive rights to the online version: Shin Megami Tensei Online: Imagine as it will be hitting North American shores.
Sporting the use of swords and pistols in combat, and the ability to fuse with devils, the game should put a smile on even the most sadistic of faces.
The Shin Megami Tensei saga continues. In this title, players assume the role of a high school student that was orphened as a young boy. He recently transferred to Gekkoukan High School on Port Island, where he is attacked by creatures of the night, known as shadows, shortly after arrival. This assault jars awake his subconciously sleeping Persona, Orpheus, allowing him to defeat these monsters.
