The Latest Trends in Horror Games - And Where The Genre Is Heading!

Gothic Girl | 28 days 18 hours ago | Blog | PC Playstation 2  | views: 4227
"When it comes to horror in games, there are a few things that are givens: it will likely be twisted, bloody, and terrifying. In other words, my kind of game. The genres of such games aren’t quite as predictable, however, ranging anywhere from RPGs to first-person shooters, and rightfully so; why limit a fun thing like terror to just one genre? Nevertheless, when looking at the overlying themes of these diverse games, trends have been emerging, giving everyone a glimpse of where things are pos..."

Real World Skills Learned by Video Gaming

Deathsythe | October 20, 2008 | Pictures | PC Playstation 2  | views: 5667
"We all know that video games make for really awesome murder simulators and serial killer training programs. That's why we love them so much. But what if you could learn other skills from them that didn't involve shooting people with guns? I know, it sounds absurd, but that's exactly the question the Something Awful Forum Goons attempted to answer this week. They took their favorite games and edited them slightly to show off all those valuable real world skills they learned. Who know video gam..."

List of Truly "Mature" Games

Smoke | October 15, 2008 | Top List | PC Playstation 2 Misc  | views: 5965
"Real world definition of "mature": Showing the mental, emotional, or physical characteristics associated with a fully developed person; involving serious thought.

Videogame definition of "mature":
Shits, tits and gibs.

What is adult? According to ratings boards and hand-wringing politicians, the only qualifications necessary are a bucket of blood, a stream of foul profanity and a parade of naughty lady parts. Ironically, the very things that are included to win over immature teenage bo..."

What happened to survival horror?

Deathsythe | September 29, 2008 | Blog | PC Playstation 2  | views: 3742
"Resident Evil is said to be born from a Japanese horror movie, “Sweet Home” (which was actually based on an NES game of the same name). Although “Sweet Home” itself took its inspiration in turn from several Western movies, it nonetheless carries with it the strong hallmark of the way Japanese culture treats horror – and that distinctly Japanese fear factor is what made Konami’s Silent Hill, Tecmo’s Fatal Frame, and Sony Japan’s Siren what they are.

The West and the East have distinctly dif..."

All you need to know about the Silent Hill series, before SH: Homecoming is released!

Gothic Girl | September 28, 2008 | Blog | PC Playstation 2  | views: 3484
"I'll summarize them in chronological order, starting with Origins and going from there. Please note that I'm only going to state the canonical endings, if you want to see the other ones, you should buy or rent the games. I highly recommend these games to any survival-horror fan, but be warned: the Silent Hill series is incredibly graphic and disturbing. You should not play them unless you're mature enough to handle the content. And remember, this article contains major spoilers although I've ..."

Silent Hill: Homecoming Hands-On - "It looks like Konami learned from The Room"

Gothic Girl | September 22, 2008 | Previews | PC Playstation 2  | views: 2340
"I spent a little bit of time with Silent Hill: Homecoming on the 360 yesterday at Konami's NYC event. I've been kind of lukewarm on the series since The Room, so my expectations weren't extremely high going in. I must say, however, Silent Hill might be coming back on the upswing after this.

It looks like Konami learned from The Room and is taking trying to take everything back to the early titles in the series. Everything that should make a good Silent Hill game is here. How the story hold..."

Do you want to be a video game artist?

Deathsythe | July 03, 2008 | Blog | Playstation 2 Playstation 3 Misc Gaming Tech/Hardware  | views: 4240
"Art in its many varied forms has, and always will be, a staple of every human culture that has ever walked the Earth. Over time, nearly everyone has debated what constitutes art that’s worthy of display, of reflection; why a single image may evoke a great deal of emotions in one person while it leaves another cold and uninterested. This works rather well for art contained within the many varied galleries scattered across the globe, but that kind of ambiguity will rarely get you honorable ment..."

Takayoshi Sato talks about Silent Hill, the series' evolution, and his opinion of the SH Movie.

Gothic Girl | June 22, 2008 | News | Playstation 2 Playstation 3  | views: 2448
"Tale of Tales (ToT): Silent Hill is still going. There’s been a Silent Hill 3, 4 and soon 5, all without your involvement. Silent Hill 3 was a lot less complex than Silent Hill 2. And Silent Hill 4 was completely different. How do you feel about the evolution in the series without you?

Takayoshi Sato (TS): It’s normal that a change of team changes the feel of the product. That’s what happened with Silent Hill 3 & 4.

ToT: What did you think of the Silent Hill movie?

TS: I like many of..."
