With its mechanic toned down considerably from its debut at E3 2009, Singularity faced some initial design obstacles that would prevent it from reaching its "gameplay potential". Nonetheless, released during a slow period in the Summer has benefited the game's exposure, satiating hungry gamers who are eager for quick, entertaining experiences.
Raven's new FPS Singularity borrows heavily from other hit FPSes such as FEAR, Bioshock and Half Life and shows that recycling is not always a bad thing
"If you're in the market for a good deal on an Xbox 360 game then you might want to keep your eye on Amazon today. The mega online retailer is featuring games from Microsoft's console in its Gold Box all day today with Transformers: War for Cybertron as the Deal of the Day and eight games in the Lightning Deals."
"...for an island that’s supposed to be hurtling back and forward through time, it only really has two timelines. The normal universe disappears after a short introduction, and from there it’s WW2 Katorga-12 and distopian future Katorga-12. I was looking forward to seeing how the events I’d undertake in the past would subtly effect the future, but the game basically concludes that only one action you perform is actually important."
"Fans of games like Half-Life and Wolfenstein rarely find common ground in their tastes of shooters. Raven Software and Activision plan to end the segregation of the two different flavors of shooter fans by bringing the distinctively different styles of play together in the hopes of delivering something completely new."
"Not a totally original game but don’t let that put you off. A nice mix of enemies and locations keeps this game from getting stale. It borrows from other games but this is not a problem as it uses the bits it borrows to good effect. A decent story that keeps you interested and guessing. I have very little negative to say about this game perhaps a little short at 8-10 hours (but what games is longer these days ?)"
"There isn't a great number of deals this week but there are some smoking hot deals available for NCAA Football 11 and Dragon Quest IX. K-Mart in particular has some great deals on the two new releases and a deep deep discount on Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker, Alan Wake, and Singularity. Target is also offering a great discount on other EA games with the NCAA Football 11 and Toys R Us is offering gift cards with Dragon Quest IX and the DSi XL."
Xbox Evolved posts an originally created video showcasing the first ten minutes of the story mode gameplay from the newly released videogame, Singularity - out now on Xbox 360, PC and PS3.
"They say everyone learns from mistakes, but what if you could correct them before they even happened? That’s exactly what these following 5 games all have in common, as each title has revealed a world of parallel universes, where an accident, mistake or history itself can be re-written."
"Time manipulation has been a jumpy subject in games, giving players the opportunity to change the course of history or completely rewrite it themselves. Singularity steps in and turns back the clock on everything you know about chronology in games, but can this time-bending phenomenon change our gaming futures? Let’s find out."
The top 10 best-selling games on Amazon for the month of June. Also included are individual charts for the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in addition to the top 25 best-selling video game products overall (software, hardware and accessories).
"It’s not all about copying BioShock; there are unique ideas applied to the gameplay that provide Singularity’s special moments. At its peak, the game shines brightly, but some of its little flaws overshadow the entire package."
"Typically, a game lacking in promotion and preview opportunities is being sent out to the pasture due to the lack of our favorite word that begins with F. Fun. When I pressed start on Singularity, I expected another shallow time-manipulation shooter ala TimeShift. I also expected all emotions of joy to be sucked from my fingertips, up until the last keystroke involved with delivering a review (Sorry Raven). My early perception of the game was quickly and swiftly shattered as I found that Sing..."
"Summer is here at least in theory, since practically the weather is still awful, which means that we’ll have to spend more time inside, playing computer games. And if you’re starting to get bored with the games you’re playing already, you should not worry – there are a bunch of hot new titles being released in June 2010 for the PC and you’ll certainly have reasons to go on a spending spree!"
The start of summer is usually a slow period for new game releases. Although the high-profile titles may be missing in the month of June, it still has plenty to offer.
"Kicking off a brand new feature here at PlanetXbox360.com we are listing the top 5 Xbox 360 releases for each month of the year, starting with June of 2010. The list will be in the order from 1-5 that our top editors would recommend them, if for example you only have the fund to purchase one game this month our advice would be to pick up whichever is in the number one spot, then going backwards to number five if the extra cash is available to purchase more than one Xbox 360 release each month..."
Xbox 360 gamers are already enjoying 2010 so far with many great exclusive and multiplatform titles. The summer releases for the system also look very promising.
Online retailer Amazon has revealed their exclusive pre-order bonus item for the upcoming first-person shooter, Singularity on the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
"Singularity will be released on June 29th and Activision gave GameTrailers a new trailer. We haven’t had videos yet.
This is a generous trailer which focuses on the storyline and the hero’s powers: gravity gun, bullet time and time inversion. There are also gameplay footage in the GT TV show with other exclusive contents on Halo: Reach and Blacklight: Tango Down."
I don't know about you, but after sifting through all the evidence like Norman Jayden in the ARI System, I am pretty convinced that this seems like a New Vegas ARG. It seems that developers are taking a trend to this ARG phase, with Portal 2 only just recently initiating their own grand master scheme. Either way, whether or not this is actually New Vegas, it's pretty interesting nonetheless.
Update: This viral video is actually for the game 'Singularity.' Not New Vegas.
Singularity, probably not what you would say the most anticipated game of 2009, even when it was supposed to come out in the fall. The game's been pushed back to March, as most of us Greppers know, to avoid clashing with Activision's sure-hit Modern Warfare 2.
But this is an IP worth checking out, if E3 and SDCC 2009 were any indication. Just another shooter at first glance, but the time manipulation aspect is actually really fun -- not to mention the environments are eerily beautiful.

"Raven Software is a respected studio responsible for the Jedi Knight series and more recently Wolverine: Origins. Their latest title, Singularity is poised to take idea of time mechanics to a new level. The events that transpire in the game connect a 1950’s Russian disaster, to the year 2010.
Think of this disaster as comparable to Chernobyl, the backdrop is a new Russian politician has entered the scene and the US is interested in investigating this long hidden mystery. While FPS‘ featur..."
"Activision has confirmed to Shacknews that Raven's shooter Singularity has been delayed to March 2010 due to strong demand for the publisher's upcoming sequel Modern Warfare 2.
Singularity, a new IP developed by Raven, was originally slated for a fall 2009 release. The highly anticipated Modern Warfare 2 is set to launch on November 10, leading Activision to space out Singularity's release in avoidance of the busy season."
"With announcements left, right and centre while the hype machine works overtime it's no surprise that some titles are forgotten. What is a surprise, however, is that one of those forgotten titles has been nominated for one of the top awards offered by the E3 official panel of critics."
"Singularity centers around a Russian Cold War experiment gone totally wrong. During that time, they discovered Element 99, which has the power to change the flow of time. Considering the time, Russia wanted to use this element as a weapon and researched with it at a secret base. Of course, things go horribly bad, and the research exploded and tore a fabric in time, mutating the land and inhabitants. So as sensible governments tend to do, they removed it from their history and quarantined it."
"Using a funny looking arm device, similar to Cortezs gravity band on TimeSplitters: Future Perfect, gamers will be able to manipulate all kinds of physical and environmental properties in Singularity, resulting in some amazing displays of visual ingenuity."
Apparently the big gimmick in Activision's upcoming Singularity is the Time Manipulation Device, or TMD. This device has multiple functions from putting objects forward or backwards through time or even into a state of stasis. For instance, if you 'rewind' an enemy soldier, you can turn him into an embryo, effectively killing him. Check out the newly-released official 'reveal' trailer!
