"Nintendo wasn’t just a game console back then. It was the only console. It wasn’t like today where the greatness of the XBox 360, the Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Wii are basically determined by personal preference alone. Atari had all but disappeared, PC gaming hadn’t quite developed yet and Nintendo imitators vanished into dust just as soon as they arrived on the scene. In the late 80's and very early 90's gaming was a one-or-none situation. Back then it was Ninten-do or Ninten-don’t."

"Every gamer is different, and one thing that sets us all apart is the preference on which hunk of shaped plastic we prefer to use. There have been so many redesigns and upgrades that it is a daunting task trying to narrow down your absolute favorite controller. Check after the break to see the staff’s pick, and their reasons for why they chose their picks and why it is their favorite out of the bunch."

In an amusing and not well thought out move by the European Parliament, they desire a "red button" on consoles for parents to be able to push when they see something "morally objectionable" in front of their kid's eyes. James Walker believes this already existed with the reset button. I would take it a step further and go ahead and say that button is called the "Power Button"

An amazing PSP mod by a guy who calls himself F00.

The backstory of this mod is pretty touching too. Turns out a man wanted a way to let his spouse continue to game, even though she has limited use of one of her hands (for an unknown reason), and has trouble with the PSP controls, but can navigate an SNES controller fine.

Make sure to check out the video in the link (or below), and the slideshow after the jump. For any of you who are so inclined, he does outline some of the basics as ...

"The angular, simply-shaped NES controller lent itself well to humongonization, but the rounded sides and shoulder buttons made the SNES a formidable challenge to accurately build at such a large scale. The SCAD guys sure as hell pulled it off though, getting everything from the curvature of the L and R buttons to the fonts used on the control labels almost perfectly right. The body of the controller is cut from wood, and the buttons are connected directly to the guts of a standard SNES contro..."

"Previously on our top 10 video game systems of all time, we rated the Super Nintendo as the greatest video game system of all time. We wanted to expand on this claim. Certainly, any system listed as the greatest of all time is afforded more than just a small blurb. In this review of the SNES, we will go back over some of the qualities expressed in that blurb and expand on what made the SNES so great. Nintendo’s movement from 8-bit to 16-bit was massive. Graphics improved, sound improved, char..."
