Sonic Adventure DX Director's Cut

To celebrate Sonic's 20th birthday, Sega has kindly announced a sale for certain Sonic-related games on the PSN and XBL. PSN users will receive a Sonic bundle, while XBL users will get 40-50% off individual titles.

While I'm no longer a fan of the older classics, been there-done that years ago, some have never had the privilege of playing some of the earlier titles.

But the question is, are some worth rebooting in the first place, or should they remain fond and distant memories.

OXCGN reviewer takes a look at SEGA's recent remake of the Dreamcast Sonic Adventure, which has just been released on XBLA and PSN.

Online retailer Amazon has partially revealed the paid content that will be available once the U.S. Playstation Store updates again next Tuesday on September 21st.

"Sonic the Hedgehog set such a high standard with his Sega Genesis adventures that gamers were highly anticipating his debut on the Dreamcast, almost on the same level that Nintendo fans wanted their 3-D Mario fix on the Nintendo 64. After a little bit of a wait, they finally received it in the form Sonic Adventure, and while it wasn’t without its flaws (why was Big the Cat included?), it was a decent entry in the series, and a moderately entertaining next-gen debut for Sonic. "They assembled a cast of playable characters that each bring something unique to the table while serving a purpose within the overall narrative. Not bad for a series featuring a talking blue hedgehog as its star."

"There is just all sorts of news coming up from Xbox LIVE Director of Programming Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb today. First, we learn about the upcoming Xbox 360 controller with adjustable D-pad, and now we get to learn what awaits us on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace throughout the month of September."

Mario entered the 3D era of gaming with Super Mario 64 and broke boundaries that many people thought never even existed. Sonic, on the other hand, did not, and his adventure in Sonic 3D Blast left much to be desired. How did the Blue Blur manage to get back on the 3D map after that game?

According to the ESRB, Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure DX will be ported to the Playstation 3 in addition to the Windows PC and the Xbox 360 platforms.

"It's generally hard to believe rumours from anonymous sources and we are still keeping this as a rumour, but the screenshot (kindly provided by SEGAOnline) does look pretty legitimate and clearly shows the download screen on Xbox Live Marketplace."

A blogger Don Reisinger has typed up an article on the Sega mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog. Their claim is simple, Sonic is dying out and is no longer able to meet expectations, or match the older games.

Their evidence includes poll statistics, competition from other companies and mascots, the hype is now gone for new releases as the original players are getting older and that it lacks the appeal of current day games: sex and killing.

Is this really goodbye Sonic?
