Sonic CD

After nearly 20 years since its original release, Sega announced today that Sonic CD will be re-released for Xbox 360, iPhone, iPad and Android starting tomorrow, December 14. It will be released on PS3 starting December 20 in the United States. It retails for $5 on consoles and $2 on mobile platforms for a limited time only.

"SEGA was working on the Mega CD in Japan and wanted a Sonic game to help sell it. At the time, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was only just beginning development. Original plans were to simply port the first game or the second when it came out, but it was decided that a new game would be made and they put Naoto Ohshima, character designer of Sonic, in charge of the project. Ohshima compared plans with the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 team to be sure they both made distinct games, and decided to use the time tr..."

"Since there are literally hundreds of thousands of games out there, it’s no easy task for lead characters to make a lasting impression on the player. Once in a while however, you'll come across a leader that's different. Somehow, that character manages to set himself apart from the others."

"While there are a lot of bad sequels out there, we've decided to single out the top five we think are the worst. Just like every list, not everyone will be happy with our choices. 2K Sports fans will no doubt wonder why the list isn't compiled completely of EA Sports' Madden releases which rarely improve. Fans of series we’ve chosen will certainly get mad like they always do. However we’re sure that many gamers will agree that the list that follows is pretty accurate."

"A lot of games have them and a lot of them are annoying. We're of course talking about side kicks in video games. Whether your favorite genre is the classic platformer or you're more into hardcore action shooters, chances are you've had an annoying side kick at some point. We run down our top five worst side kicks of all-time. It's not likely that you'll agree with them all, but you're certain to remember how some of these number twos bugged you at some point."

"Sonic CD is a bit of an oddball as far as the early main-series Sonic titles go. It had a lot of different ideas that were not really explored again and Yuji Naka had very little involvement with the game at all. With a much greater emphasis on exploration as opposed to speed, it doesn’t quite fit in with the other games in the series, yet it is definitely Sonic."

Why should you care about this randomness out of nowhere? Well, because Universal Pictures was about to pick it up. That's how good it is.

The movie is a throwback to the old "SatAM" Sonic cartoon featuring a different and better cast of characters alongside Sonic. A proper trailer is to be shown in Summer.
