Analyst: Soon We Will All Be Gamers

Deathsythe | 1 day 13 hours ago | Blog | Playstation 2 Playstation 3 Misc  | views: 1157
"The average age of a video game customer now hovers around the late twenties to early thirties. The variation on either side of that average reveals a fascinating picture, too. Many of the first generation of child gamers now approaching their forties have children of their own. Whole families now gather around a game console, just as in previous generations the family gathered to watch a video or Morecambe & Wise on TV or to play Monopoly together.

If you don't play videogames, you may co..."

Sonic the Hedgehog Movie coming?

Tyranitar24 | 14 days 7 hours ago | News | Misc  | views: 1020
"The original source that got in touch with me concerning the rumored Sonic the Hedgehog movie has emailed me once again. This time, he links to a three-part series on YouTube that chronicles the events of the movie, and why it is yet to surface. I still cannot confirm/deny the existence of the movie, but the video series is definitely interesting."

What makes a game "retro"?

StarJet | April 20, 2008 | Blog | Misc  | views: 1345
"Anyone born before the PlayStation knows what gaming used to be like. Anyone born before the crash of the gaming industry (and the boom) in the 80s will have seen how rapidly games changed. While we are content with our PlayStation 3 consoles, Halo games and motion-controlled tennis, it’s easy to look back at the bygone ‘golden’ eras with a hint of jealousy, some regret and a lot of nostalgia.

Many nostalgic objects that were considered unfashionable at some point can suddenly become popul..."

No link between Virginia Tech shootings and videogames

mistermostyn | August 30, 2007 | News | XBOX 360  | views: 2154
"An official report into the Virginia Tech shootings of April this year has found that perpetrator Seung Hui Cho held little interest in videogames, and no interest whatsoever in violent titles.

Indeed, the only game that Cho is reported to have played is Sonic the Hedgehog; his college roommates even admitted to finding it strange that Cho wasn’t more attracted to games, as many of his fellow students played them."

xsynergyx | August 30, 2007 | News | Misc  | views: 2146
"The final report of Governor Tim Kaine’s Virginia Tech Review Panel has been made public, and video games are NOT identified as a factor in the massacre. Quite the opposite, in fact. The only game cited as being played by Cho is Sonic the Hedgehog. An overall non-involvement with games is detailed by his college roommates."

7 of gaming's worst sequels

mistermostyn | August 30, 2007 | News | Playstation 2 Playstation  | views: 3001
"Often developers are only too pleased to dish out more of the same (particular given the rocketing costs of software production), but whether it's an eagerness to please or just pure laziness – GamerSquad leans towards the latter – some of the most anticipated videogame sequels simply end up falling way short of expectation."

6 Video Game Gimmicks That Went Away Too Soon (And 6 More That Need to Die)

Ameer | August 29, 2007 | Guides | PC Playstation 2  | views: 5579
"Since its birth, video gaming has undergone an incredible evolution, from simple sprites and a ghost-eating Pac-Man to today’s domination of home consoles. After all that time, any gamer who’s worth their weight in rupees will remember (fondly, or otherwise) some once-common sights that went the way of the Virtual GameBoy, never to be seen or heard from again. CRACKED recalls some video-game staples of yesteryear, and admits that, in the end, there are still more of them kicking around than w..."

Top 5 Best Supporting Characters

Silver Mirror | August 29, 2007 | News | PC Playstation 3 Misc  | views: 4642
"We’ve all played a game where someone other than the main character has a huge role in the game, usually an unsung role. The problem is that these characters are absolutely vital to not only the enjoyment of the game but in pushing the story further along and quite often even saving the main character a time or two. Well it's time these silent saviors get recognized, so here's the top 5 best supporting characters. They were picked based on personality, in-game presence, and over-all abilit..."

Eurogamer's Multiformat Face-Off

Enhance | July 05, 2007 | Reviews | Playstation 3 XBOX 360  | views: 1647
"The objectives here are very straightforward. Due to the way that code is distributed by the publishers, Eurogamer tends to review the Xbox 360 games first, so the main aim is to play 'catch-up' and provide additional platform-specific commentary where appropriate. We're interested in any gameplay differences, along with peripheral or feature support exclusive to a particular console. But additionally, we're also keen on charting the progress of cross-format development more generally, so we ..."

The Sonic the Hedgehog That Never Made It

Ameer | June 04, 2007 | Video | SEGA SATURN  | views: 1489
"YouTube Video

This Saturn-era Sonic the Hedgehog never made it past this conceptual stage. Why? I'll let YouTube uploader AssemblerX explain.

"This is a video of the concept "nights" version of Sonic Xtreme for Sega Saturn. Looking to produce a concept for a 3D sonic, a Sega USA team either used or closely followed the design of "Nights" and caused problems internally at Sega. Thinking or knowing that the US team had used their engine, the Japanese nights team had a fit. The engine was ..."
