"Soon after Sonic the Hedgehog became a success, its creator, Yuji Naka, left SEGA due to issues with management. However, a new initiative in SEGA of America called Sega Technical Institute was attracting Japanese as well as American developers and with persuasion from a friend and the promise of greater control, higher pay, and a ferrari, Yuji Naka joined STI."
"Sonic the Hedgehog 2 actually came out on the Master System and Game Gear before the Genesis game. This makes the 8-bit release the first game with Tails in it, even if he isn't playable. He does, however, make cameo appearances on the title screen and all of the images for the various zones. This is because Robotnik kidnapped Tails and Sonic has to rescue him. So he appears at the end of the game as well. The game is also features Mecha Sonic, which is the same silver robotic Sonic at the en..."
"YouTube artists have taken the FM Synth rhythms of the original Genesis and done representations on what they would sound like on the Super Nintendo hardware. The end result is a distinctly different style, yet it matches the system perfectly. Below are the original and remixed tunes for your listening pleasure:"
"With all of the games making the jump to 3D on Nintendo's 3DS handheld next year, it makes you wonder if Sonic will make the jump as well (our money's on yes). While Sega has no plans as of yet to release the blue blur on the system, one artist recreated the Genesis classic Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in a way that will jump out at you."
"Since there are literally hundreds of thousands of games out there, it’s no easy task for lead characters to make a lasting impression on the player. Once in a while however, you'll come across a leader that's different. Somehow, that character manages to set himself apart from the others."
"Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most recognised video game characters in the entire world. He’s been in countless games since he first blasted into our lives on June 23rd 1991, and will most likely continue to be zooming across our television screens for many years to come. It’s a historic franchise full of more twists and turns than a loop the loop in the Emerald Hill Zone."
"Released onto YouTube yesterday by user pelikan13x, Sonic Fan Remix looks to be a reimagining of the Genesis classic Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in 3D. Created by pelikan 13 and mercury, this fangame looks noticably darker than the original, with Emerald Hill full of chain link fences, caution tape, and a flying Eggman in the background."
The name may be the same, but Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the Sega Master System is a completely different game than its Genesis counterpart. Still, this is an awesome side-scrolling adventure that should not be overlooked by fans of the Blue Blur, and platform gamers in general.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 improved vastly on every single aspect that made the first Sonic game so much fun. Not surprisingly, the game still holds up well, and fans of retro platformers who don't already own some version of this game should definitely download it on the Wii's Virtual Console.
"Retro gaming is alive and well today thanks to services like the Wii Virtual Console and emulators on the PC. Due to the general hackery of emulation, it has become a sort of enthusiast hobby to hack and modify game ROMs. With hacks from crossing over different characters to adding new levels and even creating music, there are few realms that ROM hacking hasn’t crossed into. Sometimes, the best ROM hacks only require very minor adjustments rather than retooling the entire game. For that reaso..."
"A lot of games have them and a lot of them are annoying. We're of course talking about side kicks in video games. Whether your favorite genre is the classic platformer or you're more into hardcore action shooters, chances are you've had an annoying side kick at some point. We run down our top five worst side kicks of all-time. It's not likely that you'll agree with them all, but you're certain to remember how some of these number twos bugged you at some point."
"While the confetti falls over gamings greatest heroes, and the crowds and massing fanboys scream their names till their lungs give out, there’s someone (or something) standing in the shadows; avoiding the spotlight and appreciation in order to give the leading character the admiration they deserve. Ah sidekicks – the selfless buddies who give up the spotlight just so the leading protagonist’s can absorb all the glory."
"Unlike Sonic 1, Sonic 2 does not make you move incredibly slowly in a poorly-designed second zone. Chemical Plant Zone is really well designed and probably one of the fastest zones in the series. Lots of moving fast along pathways, jumping off of ramps, and branching paths. Chemical Plant Zone is just a lot of fun to play, although Act 2 can get a little annoying if you fall into the water in the latter half."
"Fun fact that you may or may not know about Sonic the Hedgehog 2: the Genesis game came out after the GameGear and Master System games. So, the 8-bit release is actually the first game with Tails in it, even though he isn’t playable. Despite the lack of a playable Tails, he appears on the title screen and all of the images for the various zones. I suppose they were trying to trick children into thinking that this it was exactly like the 16-bit release."
"SEGA Europe has been running a promotion in cooperation with Nintendo this festive season, and here at Electronic Theatre we thought we’d take this time to draw your attention to the fantastic selection of titles available at a reduced price, before it’s too late. Right now on the Virtual Console service for Wii, ten SEGA Mega-Drive releases are available with a 40% price reduction."
In a new interview with IndustryGamers, Sega of America's VP of Marketing Sean Ratcliffe stated for a second time (first was last year) what perhaps most fans have been thinking this last decade: Sonic is broken. Not one to lament it seems, Ratcliffe said 'fixing' him will take time, with the efforts possibly ending up in less traditional avenues like XBLA.
Translation: 'new' Sonic will be their bigger investment as it sells better; oldschool fans can get their fix via digital outlets.
Why should you care about this randomness out of nowhere? Well, because Universal Pictures was about to pick it up. That's how good it is.
The movie is a throwback to the old "SatAM" Sonic cartoon featuring a different and better cast of characters alongside Sonic. A proper trailer is to be shown in Summer.

"Weve all played a game where someone other than the main character has a huge role in the game, usually an unsung role. The problem is that these characters are absolutely vital to not only the enjoyment of the game but in pushing the story further along and quite often even saving the main character a time or two. Well it's time these silent saviors get recognized, so here's the top 5 best supporting characters. They were picked based on personality, in-game presence, and over-all abilit..."
