Sony has just confirmed the release date and price for PlayTV. It will be coming out on September 19th for the price of £69.99. PlayTV is digital video recorder for PS3 that can record TV while you play games or watch other programs. You then can watch your favorite TV programs on your PS3 or on your PSP later. Currently it will only be released in Europe.
Announced sometime ago, Sony has finally revealed a release date for it's Playstation 3 Freeview Box. The device, due for release on September 10th (UK only), will function the same way as a standard Freeview box in regards to providing digital TV. However, added features include the ability to record and save programs onto your PS3's hard-drive - including while playing a game - and the ability to stream TV from your PS3 to your PSP via a wireless connection. The service will only be release...
Play TV a add on for the PS3 announced last year by Sony supposedly will allow European PS3 owners to play, record and watch tv shows on the fly. But though Amazon just yesterday priced and dated the product Sony have since contacted Amazon and ordered them to take it down for unknown reasons. The pictures have been removed and the date changed to October, was the information simply incorrect, Or was Sony afraid of amazon revealing to much?
Amazon have revealed that July 31st could be the release date for the up and coming PlayTV for the Playstation 3 and that it will also come with dual TV tuners (that're HD compatible). This has not been backed by Sony though as signs are showing that they let this slip out by mistake though since this has happened the release date has been removed from public sight on Amazon.
Available to be purchased at HMV for £99.99, the PlayTV add-on was supposed to allow UK gamers to watch and download freeview TV straight onto their Playstation 3's Hard drive, and more to that, they would then be able to stream it on their PSP's.
However the accessory which was dated for March 28th has now been canceled by the store after Sony told them that the product "no longer has a scheduled release date". From the looks of it, it seems that HMV may have had inside sources as to it'...
In an interview with Michael Ephraim, Screen Play asked them many questions regarding the future of the Playstation 3, and many questions were answered. Here's a quick overview of the key points raised:
- Larger Hard drives may be created by Sony and sold as additional peripherals, or Stores may do that them selves
- When PlayTV comes to the PS3, it will include a form of the EPG (Electronic Program Guide) which gives you details on upcoming tv shows.
- Sony (or specifically Michael) are unaware of...
Sony has released some new info about PlayTV, the feature that allows users to use their PS3 as a digital video recorder and TV tuner. A trailer shows the details on how to connect and set up PlayTV on the Playstation 3. The box, which is fairly small, connects to the PS3 via USB. Futhermore, it will use the PS3 HDD where it will store all your recorded media. But it doesn't end there; users with PSPs can view recorded media from their PS3 via an internet connection thanks to the PS3's remote...
Sony's Phil Harrison has released information saying that the PlayTV that is going to be offered to the PAL territories may never come to the American market. He goes on to state that the reason for this is because of the limitations of the digital terrestrial television coverage.
"Sony is primed to make key announcements for its PlayStation 3 and PSP consoles as the Leipzig games show, in Germany, opens its doors.
The Japanese giant is expected to announce a tuner for the PlayStation 3 that will allow the recording and playback of digital TV.
It will also give more details of a video download service for the PSP handheld, developed with Sky in the UK."
"Apparently being a games console, media centre and Blu-ray player isn't enough for the PlayStation 3 - now it wants to be your personal video recorder as well.
The PS3 wants to be all things to all men, but is Sony getting too greedy in its attempts to own your lounge room? Personal Video Recorders are mission critical devices and, as media centre PC owners will tell you, they behave best when left undisturbed.
Is it really practical to use the one device for gaming, watching movies and..."
"UK, August 1, 2007 - Not content with the fact it already plays games, Blu-ray discs, old PlayStation stuff and music, Sony's New Zealand sales and marketing manager Warwick Light says that next year the PlayStation 3 is set to become a TV recorder rather like Sky+ or TiVo."
