Namco Bandai is bringing the fight to the San Diego Comic-Con. The company will be holding a fighting game panel at the convention showcasing some of their upcoming titles.

A lot of video games have you staring at your character's backside for hours on end, which is probably why most of them are really, really nice. Here are the 10 best.

"Females in video games tend to be designed to do one thing - get the attention of male gamers. Sure they can be just as badass as the male heroes, stars and villains of other games, but their designs almost always lean towards the "exaggerated" side regarding their female endowments. It's one of the reasons there's an entire market for dolls, posters and more (primarily in Asia). Even cosplay has invaded western culture with real-life women becoming "internet famous" just for dressing like ..."

"This week’s female character of choice is Seong Mi-na from Namco's Soul (Edge/Blade and Calibur) series. First appearing in Soul Blade, she has returned for every sequel in the series, with one exception being the spin-off Soulcalibur Legends. She’s typically a non-starting character that has to be unlocked, which gives her that “hard to get” appeal. Outside of her fighting style, we think you can gather any other info you need from the image below, which fills up two pages."

"Microsoft updated their Xbox LIVE Games on Demand service this morning by adding two new games from distinctly different genres. One is a 3D fighting game featuring weapons and guest characters from the Star Wars films. The other is the the latest in the long-line of World War II shooters to grace game consoles."

Here is a collection of the most epic finishing moves in the video game world. Warning: Don't try this at home (seriously, where are you going to find a chainsaw bayonet anyway?)

"It's Thursday, which means it's time for the Cosplay Babe of the Week. This week's entry has us dipping back into the pool of Namco's Soul Calibur with the lovely Tira. Tira is unique for her outfit and appearance as much as her deadly hula hoop. As usual we've included a mini bio for the fans of Tira."

"Video games are packed with a lot of outrageous and interesting characters. One of the most intriguing things about gaming is that male gamers never have a problem playing as women. Maybe that’s because the female characters aren’t designed to look tough like the male characters. We’ve picked the five hottest female characters in video games."

"As we reported yesterday, Sony is adding new games to the "Greatest Hits" collection. However, Sony has now confirmed that there are ten games getting added and not just the five that were showin in the Wal-Mart flyer. Expect to start seeing the fancy new red boxes and $29.99 prices at retailers in the next couple of weeks."

I think gamers as a whole can end the discussion on whether or not downloadable content that is on the disc is an okay practice. Keep discussions on whether or not DLC is a good thing at all, or whether it should always be free, but as far as being on the disc and charged for later, it's not okay.

A story type that has been covered here on Grep many many many times in the past, now has some defense. The SurplussGamer over at NegativeGamer attempts to give points, not so much 'in favor' of on disc dlc, but a way that it could be handled without people like myself flipping our lids.

This week only, Amazon.com is again offering "Buy 2 Xbox 360 Games, Get 1 Free" promotion. There's more than 35 Xbox 360 games eligible for this promotion including Fallout 3, Soul Caliber IV, Fable II Platinum Hits, Halo 3, Street Fighter IV, Ninja Gaiden II, Grand Theft Auto IV, Oblivion IV and many others.

"If there's one thing Destructoid doesn't do enough of, it's the cataloging and rating of female body parts in a cynical bid to keep the virgins and date rapists interested. Fortunately, we plan to address that with a new series of articles that catalog and rate female body parts in a cynical bid to keep the virgins and date rapists interested. The hits will come flooding in.

Walmart.com put on sale Soul Calibur IV for Xbox 360 for $15.82. That's 50% lower than regular retail price ($30). Shipping for the game is free as well.

Fans of hand-held consoles will be pleased to hear this news. Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur are coming to the Playstation Portable.

Both games will have multiplayer support and heavy character customization. The Soul Calibur game is very similar to SCIV, but won't be a direct port.

"Most classic video game heroes were grizzled and muscle bound dudes, at least until Samus Aran came along. Nintendo's hardcore bounty hunter crushed the notion that female characters couldn't compete with the steroid-using men in most adventure games, and when Tomb Raider's Lara Croft arrived, the following ladies achieved gender equality, thanks to their brains and combat skills."

"You know, its not that I don't like people. People are cool. I really do enjoy getting to know people in general. But for the most part, I don't want to participate in headset banter. In some circles, one might label me a jerk.

Don't get me wrong though. I'm not a complete tool. If I'm playing something that involves heavy strategy or tight verbal coordination, I'm throwing on the headset, no question. Call of Duty or Left 4 Dead would be a generally disastrous experience without voice cha..."

"Hot shot detectives, warrior princesses, and damsels in distress: video games have featured all kinds of attractive women over the years. To celebrate the beauties that the games industry has created, we've compiled a list of the top 50 digital hotties to ever grace our television sets. "Mandatory installs come from complications developers meet when switching from DVD to Blu-ray. Blu-rays have more space, but they have a different way of reading data that causes longer loading times when given exactly the same data DVDs use. Installs fix the problem, at a cost, but alternative methods are being devised. Fallout 3 has enough space on the Blu-ray disc to copy the game's assets over more than once on the disc, which reduces load times significantly. This kind of innovation is n..."

A little late to be dishing out reviews for a month old game? Never. A month or so can actually give game reviewers time to ripen their opinions on a game and this review is an example of that.

Another week has passed, which means it's time for some Australian game sales!

Mario Kart Wii has snatched the lead from the Wii Fit game, the Wii Play bundle is still selling steadily in third, followed by the oh-so-popular Super Smash Bros. Brawl and SingStar Amped.

"Soulcalibur IV on Xbox 360 is the version that features Yoda as a special playable character. His small proportions make him a pain to pummel, but those of you with both systems can also consider the PS3 version with its playable Darth Vader. Cohhhhhh-chuuuuur."

This week on Zero Punctuation, Yahtzee reviews the recent fighting game - Soul Calibur IV. Criticisms include the story mode, and how character creation boils down to reskinning an already existing character.

"Some people obviously have too much free time. Maybe they need to go outside and play in the sun and talk to real people. Of course if they do they probably have mirrors strapped to their shoes or have pulled the speaker out of their digital camera so it doesn’t make the shutter sound while trying to catch upskirt shots.

Japanese newssite GPara has just posted the top 30 software rankings for Japanese sales tracker Media Create, with again more new releases breaking into the top thirty, along with some familiar faces still sticking around, and others experiencing some continued strong sales, for the week of August 4th to August 10th.

The developers of Soul Calibur IV are proud because the game hit the multi-platinum milestone in global sales in less than two weeks. Since the launching of this game on July 29, Namco Bandai said that SC IV has shipped more than 2 million units for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 around the globe.

Since the release of Soul Calibur IV, I've written quite a bit on the game, whether it was a review that took three days of non-stop play or a brief homage to Siegfried Schtauffen.

By now, most of us have come to terms with the fact that Soul Calibur is basically fan service in a box, which would account for all the bizarrely proportioned women and barrel chested men with nice hair. Be warned this is an editorial entry regarding something about the game's characters that has come to my ...

Soul Calibur 4 is being acclaimed a critical success at the moment, its reviews giving it 9's and 10's all over the globe. But Namco are about to make the same mistake they made with Ace Combat 6 and Beautiful Katamari, quite frankly, crappy Downloadable content.

Just around a week from its release and already 3 items are up in the marketplace and PSN Store, some lousy extra gear and some downloadable music from the original game. Not only does such a quick release indicate these could hav...

"Gentle reader, we know of your thirst for the finer things in life: vintage wines, sartorial attire, and most importantly, realistic boob physics. After all, what would be the point of a new high-def Soulcalibur game if the teat-jigglies were not tuned to perfection? Some may say that DOA perfected the art with the “independent bounce” feature, but we found it to be a bit excessive and grotesque. The door was left open for a new challenger to the cheesecake crown, and Soulcalibur IV has stepp..."

For whatever reason, games and politics seem to go together like milk and cookies. Wine and cheese? Cake and milkshakes? Whatever. What I'm getting at is Darren Gladstone of PC World has taken the character creation system in Soul Calibur IV to yet another level, bringing presidential candidates into the mix. Obama definitely pulls off Maxi's style, I'll say that.

The PSP Action-RPG Phantasy Star Portable and the DS's Rhythm Heaven Gold had the highest first-day sales, selling well over 150k copies respectively.

Soul Calibur IV sold 56k on the PS3 and 35k on the 360.

Surprisingly, Fatal Frame IV sold 21k with a 60% sell-through on just the first day. Retailers were cautious as to whether the survival-horror would do well with ...

FRONT magazine have used scantily-clad ladies to promote video games before. At the start of the year they dressed model "Vikki Blows" as a rather underdressed Dante to promote Devil May Cry 4. (Dressing her as one of the already skimpy DMC ladies would have made more sense).

In FRONT's latest addition, models Danni Wells and Amii Grove are apparently promoting Soul Calibur IV ... Though it's hard to tell since they barely resemble anything remotely Soul Calibur-ish.

Good news for anyone looking out for Soul Calibur IV and Fatal Frame IV. They are both currently the most pre-ordered console games on Amazon.co.jp this week.

It comes as no surprise that Soul Calibur IV would sell well, as the series has a solid fanbase and also recieved quite a lot of hype and press.

But it's a surprising feat for Fatal Frame IV to reach so many sales, considering the low publicity the game recieved and the sudden shift to a different console. It seemed doomed to fai...

  • We've already seen what is possible with Soul Calibur IV's character customization. But if you aren't imaginitive enough to come up with your own sexy versions of pirate wenches or spunky cowgirls, then take the easy way out and dress your characters in nothing but their underwear!

Good news for girls too ... This feature isn't exclusive to the female characters. We can dress our men in their undies too. It's about time the men got some sex appeal in this game.

A ton of screenies for you Soul Calibur fans!

Screen content ranges from the Character Creator interface, to action shots, to menus, etc.

There are also a few comic strips, which are, again, unfortunately in Japanese -_-

Speaking of the Character creator, the one featured as the main image of this (and the source's) article, looks fairly attractive. Better than I expected, at least....

What appears to be the seventh new character to be added to the ranks of fighters in the new, soon to come Soul Calibur IV game, has made an appearance (presumably, she'll appear on both the PS3 and 360 console versions). She doesn't show as much skin as some of the other characters, but that is just fine.

Personally, I don't find her as cool, or visually appealing as Ashlotte, or many of the other female characters, but she is attractive enough.

Ubisoft has revealed some exclusive pre-order deal plans for Soul Calibur IV, to be released late next month/early August (depending where you live).

If you order from Play.com, an exclusive face plate comes with all Xbox 360 versions of the game; MSRP is £39.99 including free delivery. If you go with GAME, you get an an exclusive bonus DVD and art booklet in a steel book for the same price. The latter deal applies to both console versions.

Five new videos featuring SC IV's gameplay have surfaced, showcasing matches between Mitsurugi/Tira, Cervantes/Xianghua, Seung Mina/Hilde, Voldo/Ivy, and Amy/Seigfried. I've posted two below, the rest can be seen through the source.

On a related note, the PS3 version of the game is now on par with its Xbox 360 cousin speed-wise, according to director Katsutoshi Sasaki.

What's this? Soul Calibur IV screens that aren't all about mindless sex appeal?!
Gamespot Japan have just revealed a LARGE batch of new screenshots that focus on *gasp* actual gameplay and what the Character Customization is capable of.

Soul Calibur IV's screenshots keep getting less and less subtle. A while ago these screens were released, showing the rather "ample" chest inflations that some of the female characters have recieved. That wasn't the last of such screens. Darth Vader may not be the only PS3 exclusive character to make his way into SCIV, according to the rumor mill of Eletronic Gaming Monthly Kratos will be a combatant in the highly touted fighting game exclusive to the PS3 version of course. If Soul Calibur IV fans were hoping the Star Wars characters would remain a small part of the game, then you should probably turn away now.
Here is the Japanese box-art for Soul Calibur IV and, yep, there's Darth Vader and Yoda smack-bang in the middle.

    Discuss in the forum

In addition to yesterday's news about Darth Vader's "secret apprentice" showing up in SC IV, we get a trailer to accompany it. Check it out through the source.

Yep, it ain't just Yoda and Darth Vader anymore in the upcoming Soul Calibur title. Namco Bandai dropped another bomb today, revealing the "Secret Apprentice," the main character in the (also) upcoming Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be featured, this one being in both versions. Talk about pimpage.

PlayStation Universe analyzed the newest trailer from Soul Calibur IV and found some interesting stuff. They found a new character during the middle of the trailer, and there is a screenshot of him below. Rumors are that his name is either Mars, or Soul Edge reborn. They also found destructible armor and clothing in clips, where their armor or clothing rips or becomes destroyed, especially with the female characters.

Many fans would have noticed that most of the female characters in Soul Calibur IV have had a 'chest upgrade', and now it has been revealed that character's armor will also destructible. Yes, if you hit an opponent hard enough, expect their clothing to go flying!

Does anyone get the impression that Soul Calibur IV trying to compete with the Dead or Alive series?

Gamespot got ahold of the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the Soul Calibur IV demo, and they say it's promising, has impressive graphics, and holds true to the classic Soul Calibur gameplay. Also noteworthy: the difference between the two versions comes down to minor discrepancies. IGN got their own hold of the game, too, and have a video of Yoda in action. Check it out:

"So maybe you're still giddy that Darth Vader and Yoda (see a video of them in action here) will be making a guest appearance in Namco Bandai's Soul Calibur 4 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3), but don't look away just yet, because more and more characters are being revealed.

"Outside of online play, one of the biggest tangents of discussion around “Soul Calibur IV” has been Darth Vader and Yoda as playable guest characters. Such inclusions are not new to the “Soul Calibur franchise” — “Soul Calibur II” had Link, Heihachi and Spawn — but Yoda has proven controversial, due to his extreme height advantage.
