In a surprising twist of events, the three Virtual Console games that were purportedly supposed to release today, Mega Man, Ys Book I & II, and Samurai Shodown II, we get none of them. Instead on the Virtual Console side of things, we get the 8-bit version of the Blue Blur's first adventure, and the return of Rick, who once again has to save his girlfriend Jennifer.

It's kind of hard to compete when last month had one of the best weeks ever. But somehow, just somehow, Nintendo manages to cook up a month that is a ridiculously good follow-up to their June releases. Why can't they show this kind of love to outside Japan?

  • Remember Splatterhouse? Oh yeah, honey. Possibly the first of its kind, this was a truly grotesque masterpiece. In fact, I take back what I said about Altered Beast, Splatterhouse 3 was very much in the same vein, and is just as worthy of praise. Anyway, Namco Bandai (Namco being the original developer) is resurrecting the series with a next-gen overhaul. Just thinking of the brilliant horror this game could accomplish on a system these days is absolutely divine.
