Split/Second takes the white knuckle action of the Burnout series, adds the simulation aspect of Gran Turismo, and the fun factor of Mario Kart to create an amazing game that truly must be experienced.

"Before we begin there are two things worthy of note that happened last week. Steve Jobs passed away and Team Bondi have closed their doors for good. Steve Jobs leaves behind him the sort of legacy that most of us will only ever dream about and the rest of us will spend time complaining about. The fact of the matter is, whether you love or hate Apple, his work has had an undeniable influence on the modern world and, on topic, mobile gaming, a fact that seems undeniable when Angry Birds, availa..."

"I always laugh when I hear a gamer say, “I don’t watch TV.” While those people clearly don’t understand that the best non-interactive content is on television, game developers most certainly do.
For several years now, television has had a growing influence on the game industry, which has begun to realize that the Nielsen leaders should be considered more than fodder for licensed gaming. The Lost, 24, Alias, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, X-Files and Prison Break video games were, if nothing else,..."

"This week's deals are kind of overwhelming thanks to GameStop's Power Saver sales and Toys R Us running a buy one get one 50% off sale. There is a lot to choose from to spend your gaming dollar on but the good news is is that you'll be able to stretch it pretty far."

The top 10 most-downloaded Playstation Network demos on the Playstation Store so far in the month of July, according to the latest Playstation Pulse episode.

"NPD delayed their North American video game sales results for a couple of weeks while they upgraded their systems. When they finally did release them last night, it was to general disappointment as the games industry saw a drop in sales by 5% compared to May of 2009 and so far is down 10% for the year so far compared to January. Outside of Red Dead Redemption for the PS3 and Xbox 360, no publisher or console had much to crow about for the month of May. However, these five games were partic..."

I love great racing games, prefer the sim or semi-sims, but it's great to just let lose sometimes on a true arcade racer and just have a blast, literally. It seems Split Second Velocity is just that sort of game.

Come check out the review, some vid and a gallery of pics for your gaming pleasure, let them know your thoughts on the game if you've grabbed it yet, if not, have a go of the demo, it's heaps of fun.

"Disney Interactive’s Split/Second has literally blown up the racing genre, by giving gamers an unparalleled explosive experience. But does this big budget boomer have the substance to lure skeptic fans out of the shadows and into the limelight?"

"My heart is racing so fast it's about to pop out of my chest, hands are sweaty from gripping the "wheel", it's the final lap and I'm only a few sharp corners from sealing the deal. In a split-second a thunderous crack fills my ears, as a large shadow pours into the street I know I'm in trouble. Seconds later all I can see is darkness; my car has been crushed by a skyscraper and I've missed my chance at victory."

"At what point does a racing game not belong in the “racing” genre? It’s a question I asked myself constantly as I dodged missiles, explosions and debris in my play through of Split/Second. S/S is the successor to 2008’s Pure out of Black Rock Studios. Black Rock are quickly making a name for themselves in over-the-top racing and S/S only reinforces that claim. Split/Second is an arcade style race that has players blowing up parts of the track and triggering events to put a stop to your compet..."

Aside from March, May was easily the biggest month in 2010 so far in terms of quality new releases. Here are the top ten titles that were released in the past month.

"It’s been awhile since we’ve seen a breakout hit of arcade racers. Burnout Paradise was pretty much the last of it but we’re about to see that drought come to an end with Split/Second. Disney Interactive and the guys over at Black Rock Studios have come up with a game with enough destruction and chaos to make Burnout quiver in its boots. Does this mean we have a new king of arcade racers, or in the very least give a game like Burnout a run for its money? Yes and no."

Racing gamers typically fall into 2 categories:Gran Turismo fans and Kart racers. Finally bridging that gap between more mature styled art and gameplay with high-intensity racing innovation are Split Second, and Blur

""With a lengthy single player and great multiplayer both online and off, it’s hard to argue that this game cannot be enjoyed time and time again. Split/Second is a game where even people who aren’t playing get just as excited as the person playing. It is unlike any racing game I’ve ever played. The sheer level of destruction and intensity creates the most exciting racing game of this generation.""

"After the success of their adrenaline-fuelled quad bike racer Pure, Disney Interactive Studios and Black Rock Studios are back to cause more mayhem in the racing world with their latest game Split/Second. It has been a long time since a decent arcade racer has been released with simulation driving and rally games dominating the market, so can Split/Second re-ignite one of my favourite genres and get a head-start on its main competition Blur which releases at the end of the month?"

"After you've sunk a couple hours into Split/Second, you're struck with an interesting revelation: Several things are missing from this racer. Gone are the mini-maps, the speedometer, and anything resembling a typical racing HUD. There's no emergency brake and no manual transmission. In fact, there isn't even an option to remap your controller. Split/Second is an action-arcade racer to the core, with an emphasis on "action." Intentionally eliminating so many staples of the racing genre was a r..."

"Joey Logano's GameStop Nationwide NASCAR sponsorship saga continues with a game that is a little closer to his chosen sport, Split/Second. Sure, he's had Mario Kart on his #20 Toyota Camry before but the cartoony world of the Mario universe isn't the same as the action-racer from Disney Interactive and Black Rock studios. Logano even had the opportunity to take Split/Second for a spin earlier this week during a visit to GameStop corporate headquarters."

Disney Interactive and Black Rock Studios have mentioned previously that a demo was incoming but they were playing coy as to when it would be available. That time would be now for Xbox 360 owners. PS3 owners will have to wait until May 11 to take the game for a test drive."

Take a look inside the offices of Black Rock Studios as they discuss their upcoming racing games Split/Second. This is the first in a series of "Making of" trailers.

"A couple of weeks ago we got a chance to check out an updated version of Black Rock Studio’s racing game Split/Second. The demo that was playable at this year’s PAX East showed off a new level never seen before, Downtown Central. The track looks like a melding of cities all over the U.S. We already know from previous demos that Split/Second looks great, but now that it’s getting close to release there were still some questions about multiplayer and stability issues that needed to be answered...."

"Disney Interactive released their latest trailer for their upcoming action racing game, Split/Second, from BlackRock Studios. The game is set in the world of a fictional reality TV show where players don't just race against each but also trigger explosions and other events (like crazed construction equipment) around the track to take out opponents or create shortcuts.

"

"On the floor of the PAX East convention, there stood a section showing off Split/Second; Disney’s new racing arcade game. We got the chance to grab the sticks and check out Split/Second first hand.
In basic arcade racing mode, we were able to select from a few fully tricked out rides (I drove the Camaro) and race in the streets against 8 other cars. Since this is an arcade style racing game, more attention is placed on the action rather than the realism of the cars performance, and like most..."

""n the world of racing games, there are very few openings for original IPs. Black Rock Studios, owned by Disney Interactive, is trying to break into the arcade-racing genre with a very explosive game called Split/Second. This new IP brings the speed of a Burnout game with the cinematic explosions of a car chase scene in a Michel Bay movie. At this year’s E3, Disney Interactive showcased one of the levels from Split/Second and Spawn Kill was there to get some hands-on time with it, along with ..."

The senior vice president over at EA Games Europe, Patrick Soderlund, had some tough things to say about the competition. While he actually enjoyed Split/Second, he felt that Blur was "completely underwhelming."

However, Polyphony Digital and Turn 10 Studios aren't the only ones who can talk trash. Soderlund didn't have anything to say about PD's Gran Turismo 5. However, he did say this about Forza: “Forza, I’m very confident we have a better game than them to be honest." Let's see if EA c...
