Split/Second returns, this time in handheld form for the PSP, and while the reality TV concept and awesome traps remain in play, the game itself stalls with sloppy controls and lackluster visuals. Ugh.

I love great racing games, prefer the sim or semi-sims, but it's great to just let lose sometimes on a true arcade racer and just have a blast, literally. It seems Split Second Velocity is just that sort of game.

Come check out the review, some vid and a gallery of pics for your gaming pleasure, let them know your thoughts on the game if you've grabbed it yet, if not, have a go of the demo, it's heaps of fun.

"Disney Interactive’s Split/Second has literally blown up the racing genre, by giving gamers an unparalleled explosive experience. But does this big budget boomer have the substance to lure skeptic fans out of the shadows and into the limelight?"

"My heart is racing so fast it's about to pop out of my chest, hands are sweaty from gripping the "wheel", it's the final lap and I'm only a few sharp corners from sealing the deal. In a split-second a thunderous crack fills my ears, as a large shadow pours into the street I know I'm in trouble. Seconds later all I can see is darkness; my car has been crushed by a skyscraper and I've missed my chance at victory."

"At what point does a racing game not belong in the “racing” genre? It’s a question I asked myself constantly as I dodged missiles, explosions and debris in my play through of Split/Second. S/S is the successor to 2008’s Pure out of Black Rock Studios. Black Rock are quickly making a name for themselves in over-the-top racing and S/S only reinforces that claim. Split/Second is an arcade style race that has players blowing up parts of the track and triggering events to put a stop to your compet..."

"It’s been awhile since we’ve seen a breakout hit of arcade racers. Burnout Paradise was pretty much the last of it but we’re about to see that drought come to an end with Split/Second. Disney Interactive and the guys over at Black Rock Studios have come up with a game with enough destruction and chaos to make Burnout quiver in its boots. Does this mean we have a new king of arcade racers, or in the very least give a game like Burnout a run for its money? Yes and no."

""With a lengthy single player and great multiplayer both online and off, it’s hard to argue that this game cannot be enjoyed time and time again. Split/Second is a game where even people who aren’t playing get just as excited as the person playing. It is unlike any racing game I’ve ever played. The sheer level of destruction and intensity creates the most exciting racing game of this generation.""

"After the success of their adrenaline-fuelled quad bike racer Pure, Disney Interactive Studios and Black Rock Studios are back to cause more mayhem in the racing world with their latest game Split/Second. It has been a long time since a decent arcade racer has been released with simulation driving and rally games dominating the market, so can Split/Second re-ignite one of my favourite genres and get a head-start on its main competition Blur which releases at the end of the month?"

"After you've sunk a couple hours into Split/Second, you're struck with an interesting revelation: Several things are missing from this racer. Gone are the mini-maps, the speedometer, and anything resembling a typical racing HUD. There's no emergency brake and no manual transmission. In fact, there isn't even an option to remap your controller. Split/Second is an action-arcade racer to the core, with an emphasis on "action." Intentionally eliminating so many staples of the racing genre was a r..."

"Now if you’ve ever played PC games, the gap between mouse and keyboard and controllers has always been an issue. Most would say a controller will never have the precision that a mouse has. KontrolFreek have created a product for your analog sticks to improve performance and accuracy by decreasing your reaction time and increasing mobility."
