The NPD Group has released their hardware and software numbers for the month of September, representing sales for the United States for the five week period of September 1st to October 6th.

The notables this month:

• Nintendo hardware still sells extremely well, despite the economy in a downward trend
• Microsoft dropped the price of the 360 again in September and saw increased weekly sales
• Star Wars: The Force Unleashed released this month, with three versions charting in the top ten.

"The publisher said Tuesday that the title has sold 1.5 million copies, making it the fastest-selling Star Wars game and LucasArts game ever.

Apparently, LucasArts wasn't prepared for the consumer response. The firm said it initially shipped 4.3 million copies of the game worldwide, but amidst strong demand will manufacture and distribute more units."
