Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

The Star Wars license has been attached to several different genres of video games over the years. Some of the didn't work as well, but there were a few that were golden. Sadly, there are a few great games that LucasArts never revisited, so Push Start Select is highlighting the 5 games fans want to see again.

With fall releases in full swing the crew at Goozernation looks back to their ever growing backlog which includes games such as Red Dead Redemption, Fallout New Vegas, Goldeneye 007, Enslaved, Borderlands, Bulletstorm, LA Noire, and Metal Gear Solid 4. The bigger question here is how can a gamer find anytime to play this stuff and how did these games end up in the backlog?

To some the Xbox is remembered as having a short life span, few rpgs, and no support in Japan. To gamers the Xbox should be remembered as popularizing online gaming for consoles, for mainstreaming FPS games onto consoles, and having great games like the Halo series, Forza, and KOTR I and II.

TheMoviePool takes a look at the volatile history between movies and their video game counterparts in order to bring you the handful of games that actually managed to pull it off.

There are always those moments in certain video games that make you do a double take and think to yourself, "What the heck just happened?" A mark of a memorable game is when...

The latest cinematic trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic has just debuted at this year's E3 event. After watching it, it's almost plain to see this as the proof needed that George Lucas should let others handle his story from here on out (in the TV shows especially).

"Every MMO has different methods of getting players to work together to take on greater foes. Usually these foes are boss characters and enemy units, computer-controlled baddies designed with story in mind. While this is grand and good for most players, others don’t get as much satisfaction out of beating down NPCs. These gamers enjoy the competitive nature of player versus player action."

"Indulge me for a moment here. I am of a small group of people that has spent almost forty hours with The Old Republic, Bioware’s MMO based upon the Star Wars universe. Every hour with the game has been entirely addictive and entertaining. I’ve quested as a Sith Warrior, talked down to NPCs as a Jedi Consular, and walked the fine line between good and bad as a bounty hunter. With this much time invested in the game, you’d think I’d be tired of it. But I’m not."

Joystick Division runs down the ten best ensemble casts in the history of video games, from Psychonauts to Knights of the Old Republic. Did your favorite make the list?

"I’ll confess, it’s been a bit sparse around here in terms of new content. That said, New England Gamer is happy to present you our (and my) very first video review!

Before you people start tearing it apart, please note that I’d love some construction criticism if anyone can offer any! Tips, advice, or just things that did or didn’t work for you, so that the next time I put one of these together it can be an improvement over the first."

"At Spike TV's Video Game Awards last year, fans were already eagerly awaiting the unveiling of a particular game. LucasArts had dropped a bomb by saying that a new Star Wars game would be revealed at the event. The Internet immediately exploded with the possibilities and hopes of fanboys all over the world. So what did we get? Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, and a heaping helping of disappointment. The incredibly short game failed to live up to expectations, and have made fans even more up..."

"Our list looks back across the last 10 years to find a surprising number of compelling characters whose origin was completely artificial. Whether a malevolent computer program or a sentient transforming robot, these characters showed that science fiction storytelling is fond of the idea of machines that can think for themselves."

The Knights of the Old Republic games have delighted (and frustrated) both fans and non-fans of Star Wars. The first game set a new standard for RPGs, and for fans of the Star Wars saga it gave everyone a broader glimpse at the galaxy far, far away. The problem being KOTOR II's ending left so many of us disappointed and filled with unanswered questions. Questions many fans assumed would be answered in an inevitable KOTOR III.

"As we make our way through 2010, what better thing is there to do than to take a look back at the last ten years, browse over the RPGs released during that time and talk about them? Of those RPGs, which were the most notable? Which were the ones that set the scene for the decade and which of those should be forgotten?

No really, does anyone have any better ideas because we're all out of them.

For our purposes, we'll officially declare 1st January 2000 as the opening of this decade. Tech..."

With the growth of technology in video games, the industry has seen an increased emphasis on compelling stories. The Movie Pool has highlighted 10 games that beg to be made into films.

GameDaily gives its own take at which RPG style is superior in the categories of the classic RPG, the MMORPG, the tactical RPG, the action RPG, most emotionally engaging (contains FFVII and Mass Effect spoilers), and the overall winner.

Though you might not agree with everything stated, it is an interesting read on a topic that continues to spur the interest of RPG fans.

Backwards compatibility for original Xbox games on the Xbox 360 was a big issue, to start with at least. For those that didn't get into Microsoft's big black box missed out on some great games. All Age Gaming looks at 5 original Xbox games that you should pick up that aren't available to download on the Xbox 360, but can be played in your 360.

"13. Eternal Sonata
Kicking off our list is Eternal Sonata, a game in which you assume the role of Frederic Chopin. As you might imagine, a game based on such a prolific pianist features a stunning soundtrack. The soundtrack even incorporates some of Chopin’s classic works, such as Polonaise, Op. 53, Étude Op. 10, No. 12, and Étude Op. 10, No. 3. The theme featured is the battle music, which clearly demonstrates the theme of the game."

It is very difficult to just pick 10 and everyone has their own tastes and may not agree with the list, but openly debate the top 10 console RPG's of all time! What games were missed?

"There are lots of excellent reasons to want to blow up an RPG town. If you’re a villain, for example, you might level a place because it’s friendly to some resistance movement, or it’s in your way, or the heroes are stopping in briefly on their way to kill you. If you’re a game designer, you might do it to raise the stakes, or to give players some emotional reason to want the villain dead. And if you’re a player, it’s probably because you’re sick of listening to a bunch of cookie-cutter whine..."

"RM: From our perspective, now we get to play the games and just really enjoy them as consumers, and offer feedback from that perspective, at the early start of the ideation phase. We say, "What's our audience excited by? What's our aspirational fantasy? What are solving for here? What goals are we setting up for this project?" Then the team goes and they work on that. We play it throughout the process and give feedback whether the team's meeting the goals that they set out at the start of the..."

At the last E3, rumors were going around that game developers LucasArts and BioWare would be working together on a Knights Of The Old Republic MMO. Nothing has been confirmed about the KOTOR MMO, but on October 21, the developers will announce their joint project.

Have you ever gotten so swept up in a game's storyline that you never want it to end? Have you ever played a game and thought, "wow, if only all game plots were this amazing"? GamesRadar has. Here are their top 15 list of best video game storylines ever. One of my personal favorites is in the quote.

When you think of LucasArts as a game developer and publisher, you immediately think of Star Wars, but believe it or not, what got the company on the map were games like Loom and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe.

When LucasArts starting to make games for their famous Star Wars series, it started off to be very successful, with games likes X-Wing and TIE Fighter doing really well. After that, they never stopped and as a result, the games started getting worse. To this day, George and his te...

"This news is hot off the Austin GDC floor so grab it while it's hot, readers. Obsidian Entertainment (developers for Knights of the Old Republic 2, Neverwinter Nights 2, and Alpha Protocol) are hard at work on an RPG using the Aliens license. The game is being written by the writer of Icewind Dale 2, among other games, and the tile will see a full unveiling later this year."

EA has commented on the titles listed in the attached image, stating that the list "addresses future and past titles. KOTOR, Black, Boogie, Skate and some other titles on the slide speak to past portfolio releases and the pedigree of the studio but do not specifically address future sequels"

Games like Burnout and Skate have been revealed to be receiving sequels though, so not all hope is lost.

"EA has seemingly revealed that BioWare is developing a new Knights Of The Old Republic game in their analysts report yesterday. This is something that has been rumored for quite some time, most recently with rumor reports speculating it to be an MMO. But, as you can see in the image above, KOTOR is marked separate from its new MMO title, which hints that we may be getting a normal RPG done in the same style as the first two games. This is good news for those like me, who want a fully realized..."

"We’ve all played a game where someone other than the main character has a huge role in the game, usually an unsung role. The problem is that these characters are absolutely vital to not only the enjoyment of the game but in pushing the story further along and quite often even saving the main character a time or two. Well it's time these silent saviors get recognized, so here's the top 5 best supporting characters. They were picked based on personality, in-game presence, and over-all abilit..."

"Just like a good book or a great movie, video games can draw you in and play with your emotions. One little plot twist can change everything, and a sudden turn in the action can make you jump out of your skin.

Here are our Top 5 shocking moments. Be warned, the following contains plot spoilers. We’ve made the titles deliberately vague so that you might avert your eyes and click past if you’re still getting around to playing these games. And seriously – you haven’t played these yet? What a..."
