The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena

"While it’s always best to try and get your hands on the latest and greatest stuff that developers, publishers and retailers are more than happy to shove down our throats with all the restraint of a mental patient, it doesn’t hurt to check out a few titles that have since comes, gone and had the hell played out of them already. After all, there are more than a few ways to get your hands on a new game, but as I’m always prone to remind anyone who will listen, it isn’t so dreadful to look back a..."

"The 28th of December hails the fourth instalment of Electronic Theatre’s special The Twelve Games of Christmas series; every day for the twelve days of Christmas Electronic Theatre will be running through the best releases of each month of 2009. We’re here to remind you of the games you should be looking out for in the 2010 January sales so that you can find the gems that you’ve missed. Today, being the fourth day of Christmas, is the turn of April 2009."

Ah it's that time of year again, when you're going to be browsing websites or running to the mall for last-minute gift-giving. I mean, really, who does Christmas shopping before the week of? Pfft.

So here's part one of our annual holiday guide. In these pages you'll find hardware and video game gift ideas. Basically we look at our reviews from 2009 and gather them up if our staff liked the products. If you're wondering why we haven't included any of the major upcoming titles, keep in ...

"In terms of gaming; I have managed to cram quite a bit in this week, despite the fact I should be revising for my pending examinations when I get back to school. I have unearthed some really nice titles for the Nintendo DS which I have been playing relentlessly, and I have also been getting hands on with Tomb Raider: Underworld, along with Stormrise and LittleBigPlanet. Apart from that, Battlefield Heroes has stolen an hour or so from my revision period along with short bursts of UFC Undisipu..."

"If you put two and two together, most gamers, or those of a hardcore tendency, are mostly science fiction fans also. Though the fan base for the Riddick films isn’t exactly on a Star Wars scale, upon the announcement of Dark Athena, there was plenty of excitement for Atari’s newest hit, especially from fans of the film and veterans of the previous Riddick instalment; Escape from Butcher’s Bay on the original Xbox."

"Playstation fans can finally rejoice knowing that The Chronicles of Riddick has made its appearance on a Sony console after nearly five years of waiting. The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault On Dark Athena takes place immediately after where The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay left off players. Luckily for us Riddick fans, Dark Athena also features a fully revamped Escape From Butcher Bay on the same disc. This gives PS3 fans a great opportunity to catch up with the series, an..."

James Walker at Binge Gamer finally received Chronicles of Riddick for review... right after he sold his PS3. Luckily he was able to get a hold of one just for this game. A fan of the first game, "Escape from Butcher Bay" .. he is able to let you know what you will find with the remake of the original included on the disc, along with how the sequel plays out. Hit 'go to source' for the full review.

Callum over at Pixelated Gamer has written an article that really speaks to me (as I wrote something similar back in December). Xbox Live Party Chat is really killing the social aspect that was brought about by random people playing. It is terrible that Microsoft has not issued a patch of some form to at the very least, make party chat inactive during ranked games (private games should be allowed).

"Five years ago Starbreeze Studios gave us a gift; that gift was Escape from Butcher Bay. The game pushed the boundaries of the original Xbox in terms of graphics, presentation and innovation and gave hope that games based on movies could work after all. It was truly one of the star games the Xbox had to give.

Butcher Bay Prison, which Riddick was forced to escape, was captured so well as a believable environment that it made players (those that handn’t been…) imagine what prison could tr..."

This week Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw dives into the latest entry in the Riddick series. Flaming piece of crap best left avoided? Gem in field of crapstones? Hit the source and find out...

Although April didn’t have as many blockbuster hits as in March, it was still filled with solid new game releases. The selection for Playstation Network and Xbox Live Arcade were especially solid last month.

""They say hope begins in the dark... The darkness, for me, is where I shine."

These are Riddick's first words in Assault on Dark Athena, the sequel to the Xbox 1 game, Escape from Butcher Bay. Riddick (and by extension his real-life counterpart Vin Diesel) hasn't lost any of his gravitas. Despite a five-year layoff, Riddick is pretty much the same character, performing the same actions and delivering the same heavy-handed one-liners.

Starbreeze, makers of the highly acclaimed Escape f..."

"Speaking in a video interview with X-Play, Vin Diesel revealed how desperate he was for the inclusion of multiplayer. “We were well into production on the game and I begged for an online component for this,” said the muscle-bound interferer, “and everyone rose to the occasion and created something really compelling.”

As you may already know, Vin Diesel’s a proper gamer and his Tigon Studios are used to taking an active role in the production of titles. In the X-Play interview he reveals hi..."

"We have to remember that the game will be fully released for XBox360, Playstation 3 and PC on April 7th 2009.

"The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena not only challenges players to survive Butcher Bay, engaging them in an all new single-player experience, but for the first time in the Riddick universe also allows them to fight for their lives amidst intense multi-player combat.

The game introduces the ominous Merc-ship Dark Athena, which stalks the dark reaches of space like a ravenous spider, searching for any helpless prey it can find to feast upon. Players must face a large bloodthirs..."

You can enjoy a brand spanking-new trailer for the upcoming Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena today thanks to the supreme commanders at Atari and Tigon Studios. The game is due out in April of this year on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC gaming platforms and narrowly avoided being canceled altogether last year after being dropped from Activision Blizzard thanks to Atari, who is now the game's publisher.

"Electronic Theatre has just received the official UK final Box Art design for ATARI's forthcoming The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, due for release on Xbox360, PLAYSTATION3 and PC in Europe this Spring. The Box Art for all three formats is included below."

"It has been a long time since Richard Riddick first left his bloody mark on the gaming world, but it was revealed at Comic Con that the Furyan menace’s long-awaited return is not that far off. The Game Reviews has confirmed that The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena will beat its way onto store shelves on April 7, 2009.

It was also revealed that a demo for the game was in the works and would be available for download sometime in early March. No indication was given as to whethe..."

"Vin Diesel, the muscular, bald, gravely voiced actor who started his own video game studio Tigon in 2002, looks ready to make a mark on this year's video game-scape. His studio is involved in at least two Xbox 360/ PS3/ PC games that will be released this year which feature his likeness.

Will the new games match that quality and success, or will they fall short of current-gen standards? And even if they are great titles, with the big-name console exclusive games like Halo 3: ODST and Kil..."

"It's hard finding a trailer that sticks with you and keeps itself glued to the walls of your memories. Trailers that manage to do such a feat are easily worthy of some kind of media recognition. So in the good spirit of acknowledging awesomeness where awesomeness deserves recognition, Blend Games has proudly put together a list of the Top 10 Coolest Game Trailers of 2008. So without wasting a whole lot of words on a pointless lead-in to the list, you can check out our top ten picks for the co..."

"Vin Diesel's game production company Tigon Studios and developer Starbreeze are hoping that Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena manages to outsell the first Riddick title.

2004's Chronicles of Riddick on Xbox was well received by critics, but its high review scores weren't matched sales-wise.

That was because nobody was interested in the shiny headed actor at the time, according to Tigon boss Ian Stevens.

"The landscape has changed a little bit for us. Pre-orders for Ridd..."

"tarbreeze has divulged details on Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena's unique multiplayer modes, including a poo-your-pants 'Pitch Black' game set, yes, in the dark.

Spilled in the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine US, Riddick's new online modes include the obligatory 12-player deathmatch and capture the flag modes, as well as an interesting Butcher Bay Riot game that pitches three teams of four against each other."

Tigon Studios has released a new trailer for its upcoming Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. Their first game, Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, was a sleeper-hit and featured some pretty incredible gameplay and visuals. If this trailer is any indication, the follow-up (or re-imagining as some are calling it) looks to be even better.

Dark Athena was originally intended as a next gen remake of the highly successful Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, however after some shuffling between studios it is believed the game has taken an entirely new course, no longer being a remake of the game but a sequel. Bolstered is the announcement of the original being included as bonus content. Why bundle a game with its nearly identical precursour? This isn't concrete yet, but it sounds promising.

"Previously announced as a remake of hit title The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay with added content, Atari can today reveal that The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena contains a brand new..."

Activision announced that they will continue publishing Vivendi franchises such as Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Ice Age, Prototype, and another unannounced IP, for their "long term strategy". The problem is that they're NOT going to publish other Vivendi games:

Ghostbusters: The video game
Brutal Legend
Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena
World in Conflict: Soviet Assault
50 Cent: Blood on the Sand

These games are NOT cancelled but they are without a publisher which ...
