If we can't control it, it can't be in China. That seems to be the mantra of the Chinese government these days. If they have no means to strictly regulate part of the media, it can't be allowed. While that may not necessarily be the case, it's bans like this that give off the impression mentioned previously. This ban affects games such as Grand Theft Auto and the Godfather.

For those who don't bother clicking the source: Blood and gore isn't being banned, but rather the offending theme...

"Games based upon movies are always going to draw criticism especially when a company decides to tackle a masterpiece of cinema such as the Godfather Part II. It is very difficult to turn the events of the crime saga into a viable game, so the developers have taken it upon themselves to create a story that loosely follows the plot of the movie."

"Ahh another day and another game developed and published by none other than the infamous EA (Electronic Arts). The Godfather II, developed by EA’s Redwood Shores division, is based upon Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather II, a crime family movie which follows the Corleone family directly where they left off from the events of The Godfather.

Perhaps ‘based upon’ isn’t really the expression to use here so I’ll use ‘loosely based on’ instead, as while it may be called The Godfather II, the ..."

"I have to hand it EA this time. I believe it was about November that Fallout 3 came out, and it managed to keep me playing from 9 in the morning to 11 at night (almost straight) on a lazy Saturday. No other game between November and about 3 days ago has managed to keep my interest for that long. That’s right, The Godfather II has kept me entertained for 14 hours straight, and I’m as surprised as most of you probably are. And I need to get a life."

"In such cases, DLC works a bit like expansions for PC games, extra content added after the fact. It's what most of us suspected DLC would be when it first came around for console games, but Capcom and Electronic Arts have recently rattled gamers by announcing planned DLC before their games are released."

"In advance of Electronic Art's release of The Godfather II tomorrow, a promotional package for the game arrived this afternoon. Many others in the gaming press surely received the media kit as well.

As these things go, it's very nicely done: a small wooden cigar box containing a cheap stogie, a pack of matches, a pair of dice and a length of wire (for garroting stool pigeons, no doubt). A few matches are missing from the pack, which bears the scent of burnt sulfur and has a dame's phone nu..."

"With the detail involved in its missions and the constantly progressive storyline, classifying The Godfather II as just another Grand Theft Auto clone would be almost criminal. The strategic balance of income, variety of gameplay opportunities and three entirely separate locations may mean The Godfather II isn’t blessed with the finesse of Grand Theft Auto IV, but it’s certainly a more structured experience. In fact, if ever there was a testament to the fact that RockStar Games had laid down ..."

"New trailer for The Godfather II: The Game has just been released. This trailer shows off why it’s important to own a racket; why it’s important to keep the money flowing and why it’s important to own the crime ring. The trailer also verifies the game’s new release date, just in case you were wondering."

"Q) Could you tell us about the decision making process in deviating from the original story line of Godfather II?

A) We wanted to continue the trend we started with in the original Godfather game, where we really wanted our customers who buy the game to be able to create their own fiction in the Godfather universe. While The Godfather: Part II movie was an absolute masterpiece, we didn’t want to just simply re-tell the movie plotline and add game elements to it. We also made the dec..."
