The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom

The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom

"Microsoft definitely knows what they're doing when it comes to business and this year their business was keeping gamers indoors and on the Xbox 360 playing some major Xbox LIVE Arcade (XBLA) releases. Everyone from Lara Croft in the Guardian of Light to Alucard in Castlevania: Harmony of Despair made this a great summer to enjoy some air conditioning and video games."

2010 has been a stellar so far for the Xbox 360 with a lineup that contained great exclusive games and multiplatform titles. Here are the top ten games released for the system during the first-half of the year.

"When Matt Korba approached Paul Bellezza with an idea for a student thesis project for the University Southern California's Interactive Media MFA program, neither one could predict that their project would go on to become a multi-award winning independent video game."

"Third week in a row of thin releases. The big release this week is Monster Hunter Tri for the Nintendo Wii. The demo has been out for a while but now it is time to give the full game a spin with its four-player split-screen and free online multiplayer."

The 360's Xbox Live Arcade is producing great games and in this review, All Age Gaming's Daniel Emmerson takes a look at The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom brought to us by 2K Play. Is it another top title on Xbox Live Arcade or is it not even worth the small price charged? Find out after the jump.

I caught up with Paul Bellezza from The Odd Gentlemen and got further details on the developing of the game, The Misadventures of P. B. Winterbottom, as well as other information on the studio.

"As a 2D Puzzle/Platform game, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom is perhaps best compared to the likes of Mario Vs. Donkey Kong or LucasArts’ Lucidity, or perhaps even Jonathan Blow’s Braid, though in it’s mechanics it finds itself a fair distance from any of these titles. The central conceit of The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom is the ability to create clones of yourself, coupled with a small but significant amount of control over time."

"Originally on the PC and now making its way onto Xbox Live Arcade game Winterbottom begins with the star, Mr. P.B Winterbottom. A mild manner man in the day, Pie thief at night. He runs the streets of a London-esque setting, looking for all the pies. The puzzles in Winterbottom are fun and frantic. They will challenge you to think outside the box. Utilizing Winterbottom’s clones and timing will be the key ingredients to progress in the game."

Resumeplay.net offers its take on the recent XBLA puzzle/platformer, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom. Resumeplay explores the game's aesthetic appeal, its nostalgic take on the 1920's and the silent film era, and the gameplay mechanic (and twist) that make it an enjoyable and fresh arcade title.

Although it may not have been as packed as the first month of 2010, February still provided plenty of great new releases, especially in regards to unique titles from niche genres.
