Raptr, the leading social network for gamers, has released a new Raptr Report focusing on EA's blockbuster social game, The Sims Social. This report looks at EA's potential to dominate the social gaming space, how it captured more than 66 million players, and what EA learned from the king of social gaming, Zynga.
""And so maybe sometimes the Lord compels people who desperately needs to pee to stay in their kitchen eating TV Dinners until hot urine soaks their floor and they weep in shame. And, really, who can blame Him?""
The Sims, a game which would eventually spawn one of the most prolific franchises in gaming history, was released on 4 February, 2000: ten years ago today.
"Last week, information surfaced that Edge of Reality's upcoming slate may have unexpectedly been lightened. According to the LinkedIn profile of a former developer, Sega pulled the plug earlier this year on Cipher Complex, an espionage-themed modern-day action game originally announced in 2006. And though neither Sega nor Edge of Reality confirmed that situation, the studio remains at work on a number of high-profile projects for Electronic Arts.
When you're a Sim, you're a Sim for life.

"As demonstrated by this handy chart, the clear purpose of every Sims game is in fact, to kill all your Sims. It may sound sadistic and cruel, but I guess that’s why video games were invented, so we don’t do this kind of thing in real life.
And by “this kind of thing” I mean build a room made entirely of fireplaces or kill our paperboys with swords. Not content with being merely tragic, these 10 Sim deaths are truly bizarre."
ScrewAttack goes through their 20 most influential entities in the gaming industry - dating as far back as the Atari 2600. Ranging from hardware innovations, energy drinks, LAN parties, to even specific games - this list is a worthwhile read to see what has influenced where gaming has been, and what has made it so great today.
"As wonderful as the content creation and sharing options are, the one consistent complaint Ive seen is that the gameplay seems to have been dumbed down for the sake of appealing to a more casual audience. Was it?
Id say thats quite accurate, Wright told me. We were very focused, if anything, on making a game for more casual players. Spore has more depth than, lets say, The Sims did. But we looked at the Metacritic scores for Sims 2″, which was around 90, and something like H..."
Will Wright is a legend in the gaming industry and you're now able to send in your questions to him! In case you don't know who he is, he is the co-founder of Maxis and created the game almost all of us know, SimCity.
Later on, Wright would help create The Sims, which has sold over 100 million copies, making it the best selling gaming franchise in the world! He is also helping in the development of Spore, where you're able to create your own beasts. The game will hit stores on September 7t...
"The add-on takes the Sims out of the suburbs and puts them into a busy apartment building. New character types fill the assortment of coffee shops and playgrounds that surround your flat.
You can 'choose' from five new buildings that range from converted lofts to roomy and posh studios or luxury apartments that come with a butler.
The new pack will be out in August, 2008."
"The top-selling video game of all time has just surpassed another milestone, as EA announced that The Sims, which has been released in more than 20 different languages, has now sold 100 million copies the world over since it sprang from the mind of super-developer Will Wright in 2000. The first game's expansion-laden release was followed by The Sims 2 in the fall of 2004, while the recently announced The Sims 3 will drop sometime in 2009, for the first time letting sims venture beyond their f..."
The first details of The Sims 3 have been revealed. Introducing a free roaming world where you can go to work, communicate with neighbours (Sims don't talk English) along the way and pump some iron in the gym. This is one of the main new aspects of the game and should be interesting to dive in and check out. More new features are an inventory system and also clearly stated objectives.
There are also a wider range of body types to select from with the developer saying "near infinite" of bod...
This is... Definitely a surprising move from Wacko Jacko. An anti video game activist trying to help a video game company take over another video game company. I don't know what's going through his head this time and I don't think I want to know.
The irony of this? He was once against EA for The Sims 2 and yet he wants to help EA now.
