The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces

The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces

"Red Dead Redemption wannabe owners should keep an eye out on their local Toys R Us this Tuesday as they will have a $25 Gift Card available with purchase of the game. However, the deal is time limited and you have to be a Rewards R Us member. K-Mart and Amazon also are offering Gift Cards for this game."

Amazon.com recently discounted The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces for Nintendo Wii to $19.99. That's savings of $10compared to regular price and the best price ever available for pretty much the only air-combat simulator that's actually works well with Nintendo Wii.

You would assume that there would be more flight combat games on the Wii due, in part, to the ability to use your Wii Remote as a flight stick. There have only been a few titles in the past but none have been really memorable. The latest game to attempt to break away from this stigma is The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces, based on the long running Japanese series of Novels. While the game may not be memorable, there is still enough here to give flying fans something to scratch that itch.

"The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces won’t just appeal to the fans of the movie and books, but clearly has enough style in the flight department to draw in flight-sim lovers as well. Innocent Aces delivers a great motion controlled flight-sim to gamers who have been starving for one since the release of the Wii."

"The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces is a videogame incarnation of an anime movie under (almost) the same title, The Sky Crawlers. The game places you in the cockpit of various World War 2-esque fighter planes in an alternate history where war doesn't exist... so they shoot each other out of the sky for the sheer fun of it. Innocent Aces takes several scenes from the movie and uses them as cinematics/filler, so the plot is largely the same as the original film.

The story follows the main charac..."

"As enjoyable as flying through the clouds and blasting enemies from the skies can be, however, Sky Crawlers loses altitude in other areas. Some of the missions lack a sense of urgency, and they don’t impress much intensity or grandeur until the last few. Sky Crawlers is a story about individuals, and everything else is a prop — unfortunately, so are the missions, at times."

"Despite having had over three years to develop a diversified collection of software, there are still some noticeable gaps in the Nintendo Wii’s software library. Along with the deficiency of 2D platformers, gamers have suffered through a severe scarcity in the number of flight-simulations available for the system. Despite persistent rumors of an update to the beloved Pilotwings franchise, no sequel has been delivered, leaving Wiimote pilots sullenly grounded.

Fortunately, a solution exist..."

"The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces is based off an anime series, and developed by Project Aces (Ace Combat series)... so it's no surprise that the animated cut-scenes and in-game dialog tends toward the overwrought. We'll leave the story alone—although it actually is somewhat interesting—so we can talk about the control scheme. The game tries something most Wii gamers aren't used to: by having you hold the nunchuk controller in your right hand and the Wiimote in your left hand, it simulates hold..."

""On the downloadable games front we’ve got today’s Wii Shop and DSiWare titles Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Chronos Twins DX, ShadowPlay, Touch Solitaire, Jazzy Billiards, Word Searcher, Shanghai II: Dragon’s Eye, and Zero Gear on Steam (updates Tuesday), as well as Serious Sam HD on Xbox Live Arcade (updates Wednesday).""

"Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces finally has a date and price! You can grab it on January 12, 2010 for $29.99.

The price was a really nice surprise — I expected it to be around $39.99; the same as Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga, which was much less deserving of that price point. If you’re in Europe, keep in mind that Namco Bandai are publishing it there in February."

XSEED does what Namcan't.

The celebrated niche-game publisher has announced that they have acquired the localization rights to Namco Bandai's Wii airplane dogfighting sim, The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces, based on the novel series The Sky Crawlers by Hiroshi Mori. Boasting excellent gameplay, The Sky Crawlers was developed by Namco Bandai's Project Aces, their Ace Combat team. XSEED has stated that they will try to stay true to the Japanese original.

The expected release date is later...

Last Friday, Namco Bandai released some more information and screenshots for their upcoming dogfighting sim, Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces for the Nintendo Wii. In this new batch of info are details of the 2P Assist Mode, the different types of missions and info on new characters and ships.

The 2P Assist Mode functions almost like the 2P Co-Op Mode in Nintendo's Super Mario Galaxy: a 2nd player can take up a Wii Remote and use it as a separate aiming reticule for the ship's gunfire, allowin...

At C3xHOBBY this past weekend, Anoop Gantayat from AndriaSang.com had the chance to try out Namco Bandai's upcoming dogfighting sim, Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces.

The short demo at C3xHOBBY showcased the game's impressive visuals and introduced the game's control scheme: tilting the Nunchuk controls the plane's direction, while tilting the Wii Remote controls the throttle. The Z button fires the plane's guns, while the A button activates the Tactical Maneuver Command system, which can be a...
