You would assume that there would be more flight combat games on the Wii due, in part, to the ability to use your Wii Remote as a flight stick. There have only been a few titles in the past but none have been really memorable. The latest game to attempt to break away from this stigma is The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces, based on the long running Japanese series of Novels. While the game may not be memorable, there is still enough here to give flying fans something to scratch that itch.
"The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces won’t just appeal to the fans of the movie and books, but clearly has enough style in the flight department to draw in flight-sim lovers as well. Innocent Aces delivers a great motion controlled flight-sim to gamers who have been starving for one since the release of the Wii."
"The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces is a videogame incarnation of an anime movie under (almost) the same title, The Sky Crawlers. The game places you in the cockpit of various World War 2-esque fighter planes in an alternate history where war doesn't exist... so they shoot each other out of the sky for the sheer fun of it. "Despite having had over three years to develop a diversified collection of software, there are still some noticeable gaps in the Nintendo Wii’s software library. Along with the deficiency of 2D platformers, gamers have suffered through a severe scarcity in the number of flight-simulations available for the system. Despite persistent rumors of an update to the beloved Pilotwings franchise, no sequel has been delivered, leaving Wiimote pilots sullenly grounded.
Fortunately, a solution exist..."
"The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces is based off an anime series, and developed by Project Aces (Ace Combat series)... so it's no surprise that the animated cut-scenes and in-game dialog tends toward the overwrought. We'll leave the story alone—although it actually is somewhat interesting—so we can talk about the control scheme. The game tries something most Wii gamers aren't used to: by having you hold the nunchuk controller in your right hand and the Wiimote in your left hand, it simulates hold..."
