"GamingUnion: "In honour of Final Fantasy XIII-2's release this past week, we've decided to compile a list of our ten favourite Japanese role-playing games for the current home console / handheld generation. While things have been tough in general for Japan as of late, there have been a numerous titles to truly capture the spirit of a JRPG and pushed the genre in new directions."
"The World Ends With You is now my favorite game on the DS. An accolade that was previously held by Golden Sun: Dark Dawn; a game that had two previous entries on the GBA that I loved. That should tell you something about how much I like this game."
A recent issue of Famitsu, featuring an interview with Tetsuya Nomura, hints that Square Enix are working on a sequel to the 2008 DS, game The World Ends With You.
"A brilliant and successful new IP can affect an entire generation of games and game players; I consider these to be the best new franchises of this current generation (2005-present)."

"It's been four full years since the introduction of the Nintendo DS. This dual-screen, touch-screen handheld was a system first received with skepticism when it launched in the US in November of 2004. Over time, it began to prove itself. The dual-screened handheld that had everyone, gamers and developers alike, scratching their heads has become the most popular and most purchased piece of video game hardware.
But it's not on the strength of the hardware alone. The reason why Nintendo's DS ..."

"Sony and third party publishers neglected to add many games to the PSP's software library in the second half of 2008. Nintendo calmed its usually aggressive handheld release schedule this year as well, allowing, atypically, third party publisher to shine with content as diverse as "Lock's Quest," "Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword," lots of Square-Enix role-playing games and Activision's unstoppable line of "Guitar Hero: On Tour" games."
X-Play has a video up detailing the best games of 2008. Sure, it ain't over yet, but it seems like the best of it done with. Oddly, Fable II wins game of the year, but is beaten by Fallout 3 for RPG of the year. Huh?
Other categories include Best Handheld Game, Best Action/Adventure Game, and Best Music/Rhythm Game.
Rachael Quattrini of gotgame.com has made one of the more interesting top lists of recent. This one is for the top five games in terms of usage of the Nintendo DS features. These range from the use of the microphone for in-game functions or the touch screen and stylus.
Each game is justified by some reasons why it deserves to be on the list. Are there any other games you felt made good use of the Nintendo DS capabilities?
"Real news from the virtual world:
_BEST OF 2008 (SO FAR): E3, the video-game industry's big trade show, is next week, and you'll be hearing a lot about all the new software coming between now and Christmas. But there's a bit of a lull until Aug. 12, when "Madden NFL 09" unofficially marks the beginning of the fall game season. July is a good time to catch up on some of the games you may have missed. Here are the best of the year so far:
1. "Grand Theft Auto IV" (Rockstar, for the Xbox 3..."
The NPD Group recently released their tracked sales numbers for April 2008, for the four week tracking period that ends on May 3rd, 2008. Many thanks to sonycowboy at NeoGAF and the NPD Group for the numbers.
April saw the release of two major games: Grand Theft Auto IV, which shattered industry records, and Mario Kart Wii, the latest installment in Nintendo's Mario Kart franchise. You would think that there would be strong sales all around for the three current generation consoles, but ...
IGN the other day reviewed the US version of the newest hit Square Enix DS game, The World Ends With You. It received top praise from review Mark Bozon, taking note of the game's excellent soundtrack, unique and challenging battle system, and the atmosphere generated by the game.
The World Ends With You features the Stride Cross Battle System, which involves the player controlling both the protagonist Neku and a partner, with the touch screen and D-pad, respectively. An auto-battle syste...
Square Enix's newest RPG, titled The World Ends With You, will be hitting stores on April 22 ... and according to IGN, this could be the beginning of another blockbuster RPG franchise.
The World Ends With You is not your typical Square RPG, in fact, it's quite the departure. The game is set in modern day Tokyo, and features a deep storyline that relies heavily on character development.
Screens and more details for Squeenix's up and coming RPG The World Ends With You have arrived, courtesy of Gamespy's new preview. The game starts out pretty action-movie style, with the main character, teenager Neku, waking up in the middle of Shibuya, Tokyo, with no inclination as to how he got there or what is going on. The plot thickens when he receives a text message directing him to be at a certain location within one hour or he'll "face erasure." In the midst of this, fighting baddies...
"Available in Japan since June 2007 and already dated for release on April 22 in North America, Square Enix has confirmed today that The World Ends With You for the Nintendo DS will arrive in PAL territories (Europe and Australia) on April 18."
