Goozernation takes a look at some of the top female video game characters in the last 20 years or so. Characters like Samus, Princess Zelda, Jill Valentine as well as a few others made the list. The big question is why did these ladies make the "best of" list, and why?
"As a rare movie franchise with a female lead character, whoever replaces Jolie as Lara Croft will need just the right characteristics. She needs to be more than sexy - she needs to be tough, smart and physical."

"The idea for this blog, as usual, came from my random thoughts after I saw that Tomb Raider is set to be revitalised for the umpteenth time, this time in the hopefully capable hands of notable developer Square Enix. It is to be a tale of Lara Croft's origins, one that is apparently to explain her very first adventure. Now, call me picky, but I'm sure this has been done before. It happened in Tomb Raider Last Revelation when Lara was younger and it also happened in Tomb Raider Chronicles and h..."

2. It seems that there are a few different accounts of how my life was before I became a world renown archaeologist. I actually prefer to keep it that way as I feel that my personal life should remain private.

"In the UK, our friends at LOVEFiLM had wanted to poll their customers and users to what the best video game to movie adaptions were in preparation for this summer's blockbuster Prince of Persia starring Jake Gyllenhaal. So out of all the movies, which adaption topped the list? Silent Hill!?!?"
All Age Gaming's Ian Crane managed to obtain a piece of gaming history in the form of "The Art of Tomb Raider" which includes every possible significant piece of Tomb Raider art presented in a 568 page, two volume set. "After playing a joke on many game fans with our last Tomb Raider (or Fridge Raider) cosplay gallery, I wanted to make amends with those fans of Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider series who felt it was unfair to cast the character in a mocking light. So this week we present a real Lara Croft Cosplay Gallery."

""With Bayonetta strutting into stores this week, it's time to take a look at the toughest female characters gaming has provided gaming with over the years. We're talking ladies of steel; the kind that don't need to be suffering with hormonal pains to rip your head off. Gone is the insistent need to shop and the power to chat your body into a vacant boredom – these girls have far more pressing matters to get on with. By 'pressing,' we mean they are out saving the world or imprinting their high..."

"Every week, sort of, features editor Anthony Burch discusses a topic of his choosing for his Rev Rant video series. He then writes an explanatory introduction to each episode where he refers to himself in the third person.
Which is worse -- a heroine who overtly panders to your sexual impulses, or one who tries to hide it? I can't hope to answer that question for anybody else, but I give my own answer to a question nobody was really asking in this week's Rev Rant. That's pretty much the be..."
"Tomb Raider had a bit of a clumsy release on the Playstation 3. In a time period where every game would be expected to carry trophies on release, Tomb Raider didn’t perform, which had an initial dent in sales to begin with. When the Asian version of the game went on sale however, it had trophies from launch, which only made western gamers more frustrated. Eidos had detailed that they were cooking up an english patch a few months back, and finally, Playstation 3 owners will get the chance to t..."

"Most classic video game heroes were grizzled and muscle bound dudes, at least until Samus Aran came along. Nintendo's hardcore bounty hunter crushed the notion that female characters couldn't compete with the steroid-using men in most adventure games, and when Tomb Raider's Lara Croft arrived, the following ladies achieved gender equality, thanks to their brains and combat skills."

"So, what of the Wii for the future? At Nometet.com we hope that game developers will wise up to whats good about the Wii, and make a game where you can wave your Wiimote about and make your own moves, where you can use the balance board to shift the centre of gravity of your character, leading to a sweet game not unlike Mirrors Edge only a lot more advanced. We predict said game will arrive at the same time as the nuclear apolocalypse. Or when people stop worrying about Sarah Palin. The apo..."

Despite her rather 'busty' appearance, ex-Creative Director of Crystal Dynamics, Eric Lindstrom believes that Lara Croft isn't aimed towards a male audience. In a recent blog post, Lindstrom admitted that the Tomb Raider series aren't gender-specific, and that they appeal to male and female gamers equally.
He might want to send that memo to Eidos ... They're currently looking into making Lara more "female friendly".
"The BBC reports that Eidos "is considering revising the look and play of her Tomb Raider adventures, which may see efforts to make her more female-friendly." There's no further elaboration on how they plan to make the character "female-friendly", though one would imagine they'll start by giving Lara a body that's less likely to induce poor self-esteem among women who aren't hundred-pound gymnasts with triple-F boobs."
Eidos recent announced it came up $20 million short on its predictions for Tomb Raider: Underworld, and was left talking to its lenders with cap in hand.

OXCGN looks at the various moves made lately and the slip of Edios on the share market which could help move Time Warner closer to acquiring Edios ahead of Square Enix, who recently teamed with French publisher Ubisoft.
So many acquisitions happening of late, it's difficult to keep a track on who is buying who and who belongs to who. Most studios probably don't even know who their bosses are lately. What affect will this have on the industry as a whole if move Film based studios grab up th...
According to a report, Lara Croft's latest outing, Tomb Raider Underworld, sold at least 500,000 less copies than projected pre-Christmas. And the publisher, Eidos, fell £20million (approx. $30.5million) short of its projected overall profit. While Lara's new game did alright in Europe, being a top 10 game in the franchise's origin country, the UK, sales across the Pond weren't so profitable.

"The second Tomb Raider Underworld costume pack featuring wetsuit outfits is now available to download on Xbox Live. A first pack featuring Lara Croft in her classic outfits was released on December 23, 2008. Both are available to download free courtesy of publisher Eidos plc and Microsoft."
"Thing is, Underworld's story is a direct continuation of the plot of the previous two games, bringing the two stories together and keeping the player engaged throughout. Our good buddy George Lucas could probably learn a thing or two about continuity from the Eidos crew."
"Of course, we cant say otherwise about Activision or Nintendo, even though the companies could be a bit upset they did not manage to break some records with their titles. But maybe next year

"And so begins Tomb Raider Underworld, the latest instalment in Lara Crofts quest to uncover ancient ruins, kick over some pots and shoot some endangered species. Following directly on from the end of Legend, Lara is still looking for her mother who, if rumour is believed, is still alive and kicking in Avalon, a location not easy to track down due to being an island from Arthurian legend - not a village just off the A32."
Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider series has come a long way since the original. One "noticeable" change is Lara Croft's chest. Over time it's had reductions and enlargements, oddities and perfections.
Gareth Seiler of lazygamer.co brings you the timeline of Lara Croft's chest!

When you hear "Eidos" and "review" on the same topic you're probably reminded of the Kane and Lynch Gamespot / Jeff Gertsmann incident and we all know what happened the last time that controversy reared it's ugly head.
Well, Eidos is at it again but this time Eidos UK are asking that all reviewers who are giving Tomb Raider: Underworld a score lower than 8/10 should hold off on posting it till Monday as to not tarnish the already mid range score of 78 on MetaCritic.

From Cortana in Halo to Meryl in MGS, and even Samus and Lara Croft - it is worth peek for a laugh.
The Official Nintendo Magazine website has released a preview for Tomb Raider: Underworld including a number of screens to go with it.
The article aptly starts by discussing how Nintendo has only had the "good games" of the series so far by coming into it late. It mentions the vast landscapes that are going to replace the small, kind of "one-way" dungeons that Tomb Raider gamers would be inclined to. They say not to worry though as it presents the player with hours of fantastic gameplay wh...

Don't forget Tomb Raider Underworld is coming to the Playsation 3 and Xbox 360 late this year.
The whole Tomb Raider franchise and the new PS3 game Uncharted : Drake's Fortune seem to have certain similarities. And as a result, some gamers tend to think that in trying to out do Uncharted, TR : Underworld may lose its puzzle/adventure quality and become another game focused on action like Uncharted.
But the senior brand manager of Tomb Raider says that theyre not feeling like theyre under pressure to out-do Uncharted and that the upcoming Tomb Raider: Underworld will be very differe...
"Eidos has released the first batch of screenshots for Tomb Raider: Underworld for the Xbox 360, and look how Lara has changed! This is definitely the latest in a long line of more realistic Lara models, standing there on that tree limb, teasing those panthers with her delicious human flesh. Yum! I'd daresay that within a few more games, Lara Croft will actually be more realistic than you and I, causing us all to look like our hips and breasts are ridiculously disproportionate. Looking good, L..."
