Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

The Xbox Live Deal of the Week offers 50% off for three different games related to movie this week. Transformers, Prince of Persia, and the Watchmen are all represented this week.

"After a fourth-quarter loss of $286 million, game publisher Activision has enacted some major cost-cutting measures. Hundreds of employees have been cut from Activision-owned developer and a few studios have been closed completely. According to reports in the LA Times and other outlets, about 50 people were let go from Guitar Hero developer/former Tony Hawk developer Neversoft, and more than half of Prototype developer's 180 employees were let go."

Electronic Theatre reports on the European roll-out of new DLC for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, a package known as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Character and Map Pack Plus, and the announcement that Megan Fox will be available later today on Xbox LIVE to challenge players with the characters and on the new maps (which every other 360 site in the world has also reported on...).

"Fans of the classic Transformers television series can take a trip down memory lane, as the new downloadable content includes Generation One Transformers characters along with additional fan-favourites from the blockbuster summer movie, new multiplayer maps, a new "Expert" difficultly level and new Xbox 360 Achievements and PLAYSTATION 3 Trophies."

The exact details of the downloadable content that is soon to be released for Transformers: ROTF have been revealed by Activision. The downloadable content includes new characters, skins and maps.

Love them or hate them, movie licensed games are big business, but they are apparently also very hard to make. In an interview with GameObserver, Activision’s Luxoflux explains the pitfalls and success strategies of making such titles. They recently developed Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, which was above-average compared to other movie-based games, and previously made Kung Fu Panda and Shrek 2.

"Savage Entertainment, Hasbro, and Activision are names that will sit in my conscience for years to come, not because Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for PSP was somehow great, but because it was utter crap. Sure, the boxart’s great and completely misleading, but there is nothing worth justifying the hours of agony spent trying to beat this title."

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is yet another game based off of a movie. With most movie games falling just short of torture, I readied myself for the inevitable task of long nights of button mashing and so-so voice acting. So does Transformers fall in to this category, or does it manage to pull itself out of the ranks of mediocrity and stand out among the rest?

When it comes to the story there isn’t much of one. Yes it does follow somewhat along with the movie, but a lot of info is l..."

"As long as there are sci-fi action flicks, there will always be movie tie-in games. One of the latest to join the ranks of movie-based games is Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for the Nintendo DS. Like the previous games, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen comes in two variants: an Autobot and Decepticon version. Does the DS version deserve your hard-earned dough, or are you better off playing something else?"

"The Transformers movies have been receiving a lot of mixed reviews, both from critics, movie-goers and fans of the old cartoon. Developed by Luxoflux, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen video game certainly follows its source more closely than the movies do the original '80s cartoon, but it still carries shortcomings typical of movie-based games.

Let's get the obvious out of the way -- the story is pointless to discuss. Like with most movie video games, the Transformers: ROTF story has ..."

"This mid-year update allows Plastic Wax to reveal 2009 collaborations that had been kept under wraps for months: the opening cinematic and unlockable cinematic for Activision’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen game, two different thirty-second television spots that mix live action and CG (which involved animating the classic Slimer character) for Atari’s Ghostbusters, and the E3 2009 CG trailer to launch the new Relic/THQ title Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. "Microsoft previously stated that at this year's E3, it will “completely transform how people think about home entertainment”. The newly rumoured motion controller that detects “full body” movement could be what Microsoft has up its sleeve. According to an anonymous tipster at Engadget, Microsoft is working on a Wii-like sensor that tracks, as I stated above, “Full body” movement in an attempt to improve on the Wii's motion sensing success.
