"The most unique character in Trine is the Wizard. This wizard can’t cast fireballs or lightning bolts. In fact, he can’t smite his foes with any kind of arcane bolt of death, but he can conjure objects from thin air. Bad guys can be smooshed with giant cubes (And a little help from our old pal Gravity). As the wizard levels up he can conjure more and more objects to build rickety towers that let him circumvent all sorts of obstacles. Who needs fireballs?"

"By now, most gamers are probably very familiar with the Humble Indie Bundle initiative. Every so often a bundle of indie games are set up to be sold there and go for any price you see fit. From a penny to $50 or beyond, there's no set cost for a batch of great new games to play."

Following the previous winner Capsized, the twenty-ninth round of Articles of Excellence has seen another indie game take out the title with Dark Arcanine's review of Trine. Awarding it a 4.0/5 he praises the great medieval atmosphere and the puzzles of the game, but also points out that a lack of content and game length do grate on an otherwise enjoyable experience.

"On this week's MP3 David capitulates to the siren song of Minecraft, Nick goes back in Timeshift and back in Trine, and Pat explores Dungeon Hunter on PSN. Andy remains hooked on Pokemon Black, finally finishes inFamous, talks Might and Magic Clash of Heroes, and dishes the scoop on the Gears of War 3 beta. We also collectively talk about Portal in anticipation for Portal 2.

Capcom solidifies itself as a recurring news item, and trivia fails to get a correct answer this week."

NoobFeed.com is glad to hear that the third instalment of the Humble Indie Bundle is fired up and ready to go. This time, the pay what you want deal will revolve around developer Frozenbyte and include awesome games, such as Trine. Please remember that this is for charity and such, so donate and enjoy today!

"Side-scrollers are a genre that might be limited due to being on a flat plain, but developers have experimented with them enough to make some amazing titles. Some could argue that side-scrollers are among one of the most important genres for Platformers, Beat-Em-Ups, and Puzzle Adventure games. This generation has been great at keeping side-scrollers alive: the following titles are among the best this generation has to offer."

"Indie developer Frozenbyte have just released a free DLC level for Trine, their award-winning and smartly designed puzzle platformer.

The new level entitled Path To New Dawn is now available on Steam and will drop shortly on other digital distribution platforms. Path to New Dawn boasts new visuals and challenging gameplay, especially when cranked up to the "Very Hard" difficulty setting. Players can also expect 10 special items to collect, but the DLC is only unlocked after completing the..."

Popular Japanese publisher, Square Enix, will be publishing the critically-acclaimed platformer, Trine, on the Playstation Network of the Playstation 3 in Japan.

"Of course! We’re really excited about these games. The first project is called “Racers’ Islands” and is actually separated into 2 games. The first one is a racing game set in a colorful and original universe. The tracks and characters of the game are inspired by several countries of the world. “Racers’ Islands” possess a unique gameplay as it’s the first racing game that will allow you to drive and aim at the same time. This particular aspect is new to the genre and ensures a real learning cu..."

"Trine is a fantasy Platform game where the player can create and use physics-based objects to beat hazardous puzzles and threatening enemies. Three heroes are bound to a mysterious device called the Trine in a quest to save the kingdom from evil and the player can at any time freely choose whoever is best suited for the upcoming challenge or puzzle."

"With video games, nostalgia can be a challenging affair. Oftentimes, the over-the-top epic from yesteryear just falls flat, which is specifically why Trine is so refreshing. It’s not a masterful remake of an old 16-bit staple, but it certainly plays like one. It’s very much inspired by old-school platforming titles, albeit designed with more contemporary hardware in mind. What sets it apart is its presentation quality and the fact that it’s a brand new IP. Contained within is a solid storylin..."

Couple weeks ago Frozenbyte's fantasy action game was released on the US PlayStation Store at long last. If you'd wanted to try before buying, as of today that's entirely an option, good friend, thanks to the just released demo.

TRINE sells for $20 -- more than most PSN titles, but don't let that fool you, it's worth every penny and more.

"Finnish game developer Frozenbyte and French publisher Nobilis Publishing have released a demo for Trine on the European PlayStation Store. Trine is a fantasy Platform game where the player can create and use physics-based objects to beat hazardous puzzles and threatening enemies."

"Want to see which region got what content? Look no further, as PlayStation LifeStyle has done the searching for you and compiled a list of what’s new in this week’s PlayStation Store Update, for all regions across the globe."

Frozenbyte's acclaimed RPG/platform/puzzle game TRINE is now available on the US PlayStation Store, at long last. No price is included with the announcement, so let us know if you happen to check it out.

And if you're still new to the title, check out the latest gameplay trailer here:

"It seems cooler heads have prevailed as Frozenbyte’s excellent platformer Trine has been given a permanent price reduction down to what PC users were expecting when the game was originally released.

Eyebrows were raised prior to Trine’s release when it was revealed that the original PC version of the game would cost twice as much as that of the Playstation 3 version. Eventually the game hit PC digital distributors in the US at $29.99, but even then the two versions held a $10 disparity.

"Finnish game developer Frozenbyte and French publisher Nobilis Publishing have today revealed the European release date for Trine on the PlayStation 3, set to be available through the PlayStation Store. Trine is a puzzling Platform game where the player can create and use physics-based objects to beat hazardous puzzles and threatening enemies."

"The Trine main theme is offered as a free download, and the 20-track Trine soundtrack is available now at the AriTunes website at http://www.aritunes.com/ , featuring two exclusive bonus tracks."

This week probably the world's most hated and loved reviewer Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw takes a look at two independent titles: TRINE and 'Splosion Man -- a change of pace, to be sure.

What's he think? Hit the source, of course.

"Trine, the highly anticipated physics based, action/puzzle game from developer Frozenbyte has been available for the PC on Steam for a few weeks now. Trine has long been pegged for a July PSN release, but week after week, eagerly awaiting fans have been left in the cold. Frozenbyte, has given us a chilling update about the game’s release on the PSN."

Currently only available on PC, but soon to be released on PSN and XBLA, Trine is a relatively expensive game, by digital standards. Spawn Kill takes a close look at this new game, helping you to decide if it lives up to the hype and the price tag.

"Trine has been picked-up by the long-time gaming community as a title from which to draw inspiration. Even prior to release, as is often the case in the videogames industry, Trine has been thrown about with abandon as a title with which to argue the merits of 2D gaming, and that not only does it still have it’s place in the industry, but can stand-up to the big budgets forcibly in place with multi-million selling 3D releases."

"Trine, a unique and absorbing fantasy action game from Frozenbyte, which challenges players to battle with the forces of space, energy and motion in a magical kingdom, is released to retail today on PC by Nobilis and Ascaron Entertainment."

Update: Our bad, it appears this is all mere speculation!

Another tidbit we seem to have missed regarding TRINE: the Xbox LIVE Arcade version of the game will feature online co-op (as opposed to the currently instated local co-op).

At this point, this makes it the only version of the game to support it, though the team has stated it could come to the PC and PSN versions, depending on sales performance and other things.

If you have recently played the Trine demo, you will notice that it is not just another arcade game. Now the price for the game has been revealed. The PC version will cost $40 dollars ($30 in at least one digital outlet) and the PSN version will cost only $20 dollars. While there are a few titles on PSN that are priced at $20, almost all are only ten, so this is a little high. But its quality is worth the price.

TRINE is our most notable release for this week, coming out on PC at some digital outlets July 3, others, including the PlayStation Network, around July 10 (360 owners will have to wait awhile longer). Those wanting to get it at retail can wait a few more weeks. Again, a demo is available, and we can't recommend trying it enough.

Others worth mentioning include FUEL, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, and perhaps the Megaman Starforce 3 titles.

Update: sorry guys, turns out this is actually speculation.

Here's an old story we seem to have lost in the mix: upcoming RPG-puzzle-fantasy-whatever-platformer TRINE will be coming to the Xbox LIVE Arcade, so now pretty much everyone can enjoy the magic.

Atlus will be bringing the title to service, which they showed off at E3 this year. No date is official for this version, but the PC and PSN editions are due early-mid July, so we'd bet around that time or not too long after.

"Taken from the final version of Trine, whose launch is planned for July 3rd 2009, this demo lets you discover the tutorial menu and the first level of the game. You can play as three characters: Pontius the brave, Amadeus the magnificent and Zoya the sly, for around 30 to 40 minutes."

Ten new screenshots are here today for Frozenbyte's RPG-puzzler-platforming-ish masterpiece TRINE; five here, rest and lots more goodies on the game's profile linked below (just click the platform of your choice).

We've played an early version at Neoseeker -- and trust us, this is one to keep an eye on. The game launches later this month on the PC and PlayStation Network.

"Immediately demonstrating the game’s tendency to go one-step-further than most with pretty much everything, a subdued water colour introduction soon gives way to some of the most intricately detailed 2D imagery yet seen in videogames. With a voiceover narrating the on-screen action - of which, you are in control – the tutorial method is a rather refreshing breath of air."

"Trine, a unique and absorbing Puzzle/Platformer that challenges players to battle with the forces of space, energy and motion in a magical kingdom, will be released on PC and PLAYSTATION 3 in July 2009 by Nobilis and Ascaron Entertainment. Trine features a Co-Operative Multi-player Mode, in which up to three players can participate, Electronic Theatre can reveal today."

"From the Finnish indie developer Frozenbyte comes an action platformer that feels kind of like a modern-day update to such classic games as the original Prince of Persia, The Lost Vikings, and Ghosts 'n Goblins. Before we even started the game, we were taken away by Trine's beautiful, dreamlike visuals and soothing music, which prepared us for the storybook adventure that was about to take place. Things only got better as we were introduced to a fantasy kingdom that had fallen under dark time..."

"At heart, the game is a platformer, puzzler and dare we say it, RPG, with influences that appear to be all over the map. For one example, fans of the classic Ghosts 'N Goblins series (and its spiritual successor Maximo) should find lots to love here, and we might even go so far as to say ARPG lovers will find likenesses to appreciate as well -- besides aesthetics and combat, an experience system allowing the player to upgrade his weapons and abilities is in the pipeline, as is an inventory me..."

"Trine has been a team effort, everyone has pitched in with their ideas. The original idea came from the producer who wanted to create a modern run'n'jump game set in a magical world. Since the beginning, though, Trine has changed a lot in every aspect."

You may recall an odd little title for the PlayStation Network & PC we previewed several months ago. If you're looking to get all the info possible on this Frozenbyte-developed game, you can now head over to its website and check out videos, screenshots, and lots more. Developer chats, a new trailer (aside from the current teaser), a biography and "many more surprises" are to come, too.

Additionally, we've got a bunch more stuff (including a gameplay trailer) on the game's profile which yo...

Unigamesity considers 2009 to have the potential of becoming the biggest year in gaming and presents us with their list of the most anticipated PC games of the year. Check out the quote for the full listing (10 games).

"We have a pretty good idea of what games are going to be big this year. Guitar Hero? It'll do well. StarCraft 2? Yeah, no problems there. But there are a bunch of games that have a good chance of flying under the radar, and we wanted to call attention to them in a little feature we like to call Dark Horse Games of 2009. No, they don't involve husbandry"
