Steam setup a huge holiday video game sale featuring some of the most popular video games in the last year. The sale is offered on games like Call of Duty: Black Ops, F.E.A.R. "The Second part of our 'What the F&%k' of the week, is going to go to Games Workshop. Anyone that doesn't know who Games Workshopis they are the makers of Warhammer, they and uhh, Mythic make the Warhammer 40,000 game. But Games Workshop started primarily with the tabletop Warhammer. But they have filed a lawsuit against Curse a company who operates WarhammerAlliance.com which is a fan site and general gaming news site. They are suing them for trademark infringement, cybersquating and unfair ..."
"THQ has announced today that with the forthcoming release of the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising expansion pack on March 12th 2010, all Dawn of War II owners will have their copy of the game updated with additional content. Dawn of War II is a Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game in which you return to sub sector Aurelia where a long lost frozen ice planet has reappeared from the Warp, bringing with it new secrets to uncover and foes to face."
"If ever a gaming genre has become a lightning rod for brow-knotting aphorisms, it’s real-time strategy. Conventional wisdom dictates that RTS has failed to crack the console market in this or any other generation, despite repeated attempts from talented teams, and its native PC home has been relentlessly attacked by pirates in recent years. It’s a two-pronged assault to which even the biggest names in games have apparently no answer, say the worriers."
"Even with all the fall 2009 releases that were delayed into 2010, it's still been a heck of a year for games. Blockbusters everywhere! You couldn't walk to the bus without tripping over one, it seems. And with all that obsessing over the big-name hits, a huge number of worthy also-rans have gone almost completely overlooked by gamers at large. Well, that just doesn't sit right with us. Sure, we like the triple-A titles as much as the next batch of game-obsessed nerds, but we love the little g..."
"Following yesterday’s revelation of an exact release date for the forthcoming Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising, THQ has confirmed that two other new releases in the Dawn of War series will arrive on the same day. Both Dawn of War II: Gold Edition and Dawn of War II: Game of the Year will launch on March 12th 2010 across Europe."
"THQ has released the first official details on the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising. Set for release on PC in March 2010, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising puts you in charge of the Blood Ravens."
"The publisher announced they "signed a commitment letter for a $35 million senior secured credit facility with Bank of America," with CFO Paul Pucino going on to explain they're "pursuing this credit facility as a prudent backup to our $141 million cash and short-term investment balance at March 31, 2009.""
"Windows gaming took center stage today in San Francisco at the annual Game Developers Conference, as Microsoft announced new features coming to the Games for Windows – LIVE online gaming service and community:"
"...That being said, Dawn of War II is not a real-time strategy game. It is a hybrid between an RTS, action-RPG, tactical shooter, and hack 'n slash game. This combination is masterfully put together by Relic and they are to be commended for actually doing something original. Sure, a tried and true RTS sequel would have been great too, but this is not just great. Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War II also pushes the bounds of multiple genres in a very clever way and that masterful originality can mean..."
A press release sent out by publisher THQ today says Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II has dominated the charts in its first week debut. It's been the best selling PC game in the US, UK, France, Germnay Spain and Australia, this based on data collected from the NPD Group, ELSPA/GfK Chart-Track and GfK.
If you've been paying attention to the charts this past year or so, you'll know not much has changed -- The Sims, Warcraft, and the odd newcomer doing pretty well (Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, etc...
I've been asked to start blogging again - a major undertaking given I have no time for anything other than showing the world how awesome UGO is deep down inside, and gaming. Not to mention I have a terrible habit of stream-of-consciousness writing without making the effort to proof read, or spell check... yeah, I'm supposed to have a grad degree. *shrug*
That said, I am unfortunately a fanboy. A fan boy that, from time to time, likes to engage in the silly x vs. y forum debates. Last night...

"A lot of people have been looking forward to Relic's Dawn of War II, and this latest installment in the Warhammer 40,000 franchise has already been rattling a few cages since its recent debut. Many reviews coming in from magazines and other news sites have been leaning on the positive side, but there are those who feel less enthusiastic about the new Dawn of War.
[It] starts out like any other Relic RTS you may have played, and Warhammer 40k fanatics are probably thrilled to find out that..."
"Much has changed since the days of just sending waves upon waves of squads to their noble deaths in the vain hope theyll break the defensive lines of your enemies base. Relic take a page from one of their other hot RTS creations Company of Heroes with Dawn of War II playing huge emphasis on the squads themselves, with each feeling critical to success. To this end maps are littered with cover spots everywhere bringing the intensity of battles to new highs as you literally throw everything..."
There is a new trailer for Warhammer 40k - Dawn of War II which shows off the Space Marine faction featured in the game. The PC-only title is due out in two days at both online and b&m locations, and will retail for $49.99 on average.
Spring and love and all that garbage are in the air, and with that kicks off a solid batch of games this week. The obvious blockbuster is Street Fighter IV, the fighting game for pretty much everyone, really, then the fabulous RTS Dawn of War II (the RTS even for people who don't play RTS), and two titles from equally reputable RPG series': Dragon Quest V and Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon.
Bon semaine!
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II isn't even out yet, and developer Relic has detailed a patch for the game, due out within a few days of release -- they certainly weren't kidding when they said they found a way to patch the game quickly. Share the secret with the other developers, please!
The update is largely thanks to everyone who tried out the beta - props to you!
On top of a load of bug fixes, two new multiplayer maps will be added -- one 1v1 and one 3v3.
Full details on the chan...

They're going to do this by looking at the areas they detailed being "core market, kids' games, family games, the female audience, and online gaming". Note how they made females a separate category.
The main focus is core gaming, which everyone knows is the biggest thing arou...
"You may have played games such as The Darkness, Hitman: Contracts, BioShock or Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II. I bet you didnt know that Plastic Wax was one of the companies responsible for the CG work that was put into those games. Pretty spiffy work, eh?"
Britain-based magazine PC Gamer has given us a little sneak peak of the RTS Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2, and CVG has kindly put it on the internet for us to see.

"But if you lose it you dont have to go back and do it again, theres no more need to replay a mission over and over again. You will keep all the experience and the items that you found in the mission which is cool."
Dawn of War II, the upcoming RTS game from Relic (makers of Company of Heroes) got a new trailer today, at E3.
The new trailer is pretty damn cool in my opinion.
Check it out:
"As a huge fan of the RTS genre I try to play every major RTS that my grubby hands can get on. One game that has continued to elude my grasp is DoW. The reason simply is because of the ridiculous initial investment required to play the "full game." Call it whatever you want: episodic content, expansion packs, semi-sequels... this tactic of selling bite sized morsels of gameplay is milking at its finest. And why not milk? You combine a vast gameworld with a rabid fanbase and get gallons of ..."

New screens have also been released.
"Until now, information on Dawn of War II has been limited for the most part to three measly screens and details on Warhammer 40K Online has been sparse.
Luckily, our friends down the hall at PC Gamer are getting ready to unleash a bombshell of details on everything Warhammer-related in their upcoming June issue and we cant wait to read it."
