The eighth round of Articles of Excellence sees the votes spread across the board, with several reviewers receiving a pat on the back for their good work. Though a winner there must be, and this round it's Dark Moor with their review for White Knight Chronicles. Giving it 4.0/5, they describe it as an RPG with a good multiplayer option and with an enjoyable amount of customisation on offer.
"Apparently Japanese studio Level-5 has been quite busy. You may know these standout developers from such games as Jeanne d'Arc (PSP), White Knight Chronicles (PS3), or the Professor Layton series(DS)"

The President and CEO of Level-5, Akihiro Hino, gives a status update on the development of the upcoming Playstation 3 exclusive RPG, White Knight Chronicles 2.
"A new viral campaign has today been launched as a promotional activity for the forthcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive, White Knight Chronicles. From the developers of the critically acclaimed Dark Cloud series and the PlayStation 2’s last-hurrah, Rogue Galaxy, Level-5’s White Knight Chronicles promises to break new ground in the Role-Playing Game (RPG) genre with the inclusion of online co-operative missions for up to four players."
"What do you look for in a role-playing game? The role-playing genre means different things to every player, so it's important to know the answer to that question before reading too much into this review. In my case, I want a solid adventure with compelling characters, a solid plot, and a resolution that makes me feel like I've accomplished something. I also enjoy managing the minutiae, assigning skill points, maxing out my armor and weapon enhancements, and seeing real results of my toil on t..."
"Showing very similar battle systems of previous Final Fantasy games (final fantasy 12 or 11), WKC complicates things with a skills format that needs to be rearranged every time a new skill is learned. Once your skills are finally in place, it's time to play the waiting game... literally. The battle system features a command circle which the user has to wait to fill up before executing any action. The time of the wait rarely changes, and plays out more like an MMO. Not necessarily a bad thi..."
Gametrailers recently reviewed the PS3 RPG White Knight Chronicles...
Gametrailers were disappointed with its "generic" world and plot, the "lazy" integration of the player's custom-made character into the story, the "lack of strategy" in gameplay, and "merely passable" single player campaign.
Although, they were impressed with the game's extensive character customization and online play, and assured die-hard RPG fans that it is an enjoyable enough game, but not a memorable ...

GameDaily gives its own take at which RPG style is superior in the categories of the classic RPG, the MMORPG, the tactical RPG, the action RPG, most emotionally engaging (contains FFVII and Mass Effect spoilers), and the overall winner.
Though you might not agree with everything stated, it is an interesting read on a topic that continues to spur the interest of RPG fans.
"Unfortunately, White Knight Chronicles (known as "White Knight Chronicles International Edition" in the United States) is one of the first major disappointments of 2010. The end result, which is far removed from the promise of the original concept trailer, not only looks far worse, but has a flawed battle system, poorly-told story and a number of technical issues. I'm amazed that this game, which had so much potential, actually came from a studio with such a vast amount of experience. As sad ..."
Icrontic's swarthy CB Droege brings us this week's interesting new video game releases. Featured this week are Star Trek Online, Global Agenda, and the Icrontic spotlight release White Knight Chronicles
"White Knight Chronicles is latest RPG to come from famed RPG developer, Level-5. After garnering great success on the PS2 with the Dark Cloud series and Rogue Galaxy, they ventured off into different series like Dragon Quest and their hit PSP strategy-RPG, Jeanne D'Arc. Setting higher standards for other RPG developers to reach, Level-5 continues to grow and innovate. White Knight Chronicles is their latest RPG, and, like previous efforts, it offers some unique ideas and gameplay concepts. Fi..."
"Michael Lafferty of GameZone writes "Gamers don’t care. Doesn’t matter if it is sunny or cold outside – there is the warmth of the television screen or computer monitor, reveling in the glow of White Knight Chronicles, or Mass Effect 2. So what if winter is a bit longer. Six more weeks of winter is all the excuse needed. "You still gaming?" Don't scramble for a response - blame it on the groundhog.""
After an impressive start of the year in January with games like Mass Effect 2, the gaming industry is hoping for another big month in February with another big slate of high-profile releases.
"Since the launch of the PlayStation 3, Japanese RPG fans have bemoaned the lack of their favorite genre on the machine. Sure, sometimes publishers throw the PS3 a bone – ports of 360 JRPGs like Enchanted Arms and Eternal Sonata come to mind, along with a few exclusive RPGs that are even more specialized in being Strategy RPGs. Otherwise, PS3 fans had to either play the Xbox 360's larger but still small selection, or keep playing PS2, which even in 2010 will get another game in the genre. Than..."
"There are many elements endemic to the Japanese RPGs genre, but with real-time combat, stellar graphics, a good story and logic stones where progress can be saved (die and the game ends if save points were not created), White Knight Chronicles succeeds."
"After being available in Japan for a little over a year, Level-5's gorgeous RPG White Knight Chronicles will be released on the PlayStation 3 this week. It will be joined by two big PC releases, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat and Star Trek Online."
White Knight Chronicles is coming to Home when it releases with intergrated trophy and home support. LBP costume & Sticker pack will release on Feb. 25th.
After a long drought, an abundance of Japanese role-playing games will be heading to the Playstation 3 in full force this year. So which upcoming JRPGs will be worth picking up?
"The block skills take a little work, but all in all, White Knight Chronicles does a very nice job in the combat department – which is necessary, of course, since this is a game that has a foundation of combat."
"As of this writing, we’re already three weeks into 2010. The “new” year is already practically ancient, and pretty soon we’ll have run out of time to make wild, erratic, entirely factual predictions about things that will happen over the next 11 months. So with January nearly over, we’re going for the jugular and answering the question that’s on everyone’s mind: between the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and PC, which gaming platform will claim victory by the end of this year.
Experts antici..."
"From the developers of the critically acclaimed Dark Cloud series and Rogue Galaxy, Level-5 delivers a Role-Playing Game (RPG) experience within a medieval-like fantasy where the hero is able to engage in combat as the larger-than-life White Knight. Players will be able to customise their own avatar and enter in a deep single player campaign or join a real-time online multiplayer quest with up to four others."

""White Knight Chronicles is definitely using the PS3 to render out some stellar graphical elements. The character creation system is rather good, and while the mouth sync for the preview build was not that solid, the game’s animation is excellent and the special effects sparkle.
There are many elements that will be familiar to role-playing gamers; combat yields experience points that translate into levels and levels mean access to better skills and equipment. Monsters killed dropped items ..."
"Christmas will have come and gone in January, but doesn’t mean you can stop spending money! The Spawn Kill cast minus a couple of us — that’s Molotov Cupcake, Tigresa, K-Tuck, The Herp, and Snarkasaur — discusses the cornucopia of games being released Q1 of 2010 and various subjects that coincide with the games coming out as well as our subsequently drained bank accounts. Also on the agenda as usual is what we’ve been playing as well as a couple short news snippets."
White Knight Chronicles has been out in Japan for quite some time now, and the sequel is already underway, but has yet to actually make it outside of Japan. Well, according to Level 5 and SCEA, White Knight Chronicles is finally going to be hitting North America very soon. So soon, in fact, that they have an exact release date: February 2nd, 2010. In addition to a release date, they also mentioned a list of added features the NA version will have, as well as the fact that the game itself has ...

"White Knight Chronicles is undoubtedly an attractive game. Featuring a dramatic sense of scale and some immaculately detailed Character Models, White Knight Chronicles will undoubtedly be used as an example of the benefits PLAYSTATION3s added horsepower for some time."
White Knight Chronicles is yet to hit the world outside of Japan, but already many PS3 owners are pinning their hopes on it, and with news like this its not surprising. Tomorrow a new piece of content is to be added free of charge, and is currently the second update released for the game. The DLC is titled Futatsu no Hôgeki, ten points for whoever translates that.
Just last week it was reported White Knight Chronicles had broken sales records for the RPG genre in Japan this generation, selling over 200 000 copies in its first week of sale. A similar instance has occurred during the second week of going on sale, a further 74 000 copies flying off the shelves. In comparison MGS4, one of the best selling games on the PS3 only achieved 64 000 in its second week in Japan.
According to the interview below with Level 5 president and CEO Akihiro Hino, the anticipated White Knight Chronicles (White Knight Story in Japan) "should be" coming to North America, but the date hasn't been decided yet.
Additionally, the same is said for whether or not North American/Japanese players can play against each other in the online mode.

Having released on December 25th 2008 and with only four days of sales, it appears that White Knight Story/Chronicles has shown how huge it really is by selling more copies than all previous JRPG's that have been released on the XBOX360 with 203,000 units sold between 22nd-28th December. However the game hasn't stopped there, it seems that the first day sales themselves, have surpassed the total of many games with Enterbrain reporting that 100,000 sold on the first day it self.

After the 29/40 review score given by Famitsu, many heads turned, questioning either the game or Famitsu themselves. To help those of us that haven't heard from the importers (the game was released on Christmas Day in Japan), 1UP have decided to give us a preview of the game themselves, and their overall message is "Don't believe everything you read" and in this case, the Famitsu Review.
"Scores:
White Knight Bombicles: 7/7/8/7
--lots of optional content
--big boss battles
--simplistic combat
--customizable combos
--is basically like every other Level 5 RPG. Sadness befalls the land.
--Online has chat issues and a reviewer "hopes it will be patched in the future""
PS3Trophies.co.uk have managed to do what they do so well, and get a list of trophies for the upcoming PS3 RPG, White Knight Stories (known as White Knight Chronicles in the US/EU).
Note that the video at the source is an old one released in 2007 and that all the trophies are secret.
While this has been overlooked since November 21st, Famitsu has some 'new' pictures from White Knight Story, showing some characters that up until now were only on the official website. It seems that there have been some upgrades to the visual effects in the attacks, as well as upgrades to the characters' visual quality; the environments could do with a layer of polish, but otherwise, Japan should be getting excited to recieve an excellent RPG on Christmas!
The official boxart for the PS3 RPG has finally been revealed, the Japanese version of it anyway. It certainly looks better than some of the supposed boxart shown in the past (those who have seen it will testify to that). Now all we need is a Western release date.
White Knight Story/Chronicles has already begun to turn a number of heads in the RPG Gamers community, and if this video is anything to go by - it's for good reason. A new video has been released by Level 5 showing various storyline sequences from the game, giving gamers a bit of taste of what's instore for them when the game is finally released.
First things first... beware of some Spoilers in the information that is posted below regarding the story of the game:

Remember how Sony promised 11 unannounced PS3 titles to feature at TGS? The same titles which have been strangely absent despite one or two here and there? Well the full list of titles has finally been revealed. And it turns out we've all been tricked, or rather tricked ourselves. You see Sony said they were unannounced titles, but never that they were new titles. These games had yet to be announced to appear at TGS, so there never really any new games to begin with, the large majority of th...
Previously we were told what games would have trophies from Leipzig, and we've gotten a similar sort of list with new games which have been confirmed to be getting trophies on release:
We've almost all heard about Square-Enix, but not many people have heard of Level-5, the company that are currently in the process of developing White Knight Story/Chronicles.
The question that diggingtheweb.com have asked is... can Level-5 dethrone Square-Enix? In terms of number of games, that's an obvious no with only 150 employees as at last year, however if you go by quality of games... well it was Level 5 who previously developed Dragon Quest VIII and that in itself says something ab...
It seems that GameKyo have done it again, and have managed to find yet another video for the upcoming game White Knight Story/Chronicles. This video in particular shows some gameplay from the game in high quality to boot.
Some details were released by Dengeki PlayStation magazine however most of it was kept underwraps for the Tokyo Game Show, and many new detials have been revealed as well as a video for the game. See some of the detials below and the the rest of them at the source along with the video.

A new trailer for the beautiful RPG White Knight Chronicles has been shown at TGS and, one way or another, someone at GameVideos has snagged a copy.
From the title you can already tell how I think it looks, without a doubt this looks like the RPG to beat, and Level 5 haven't failed yet. The description says there is gameplay present but I didn't spot anything. Perhaps you can?

Some details previously emerged thanks to the Dengeki PlayStation magazine for White Knight Stories/Chronicles giving some details about the game, and shortly after more scans have emerged from Famitsu. Take a look at the scans below:
White Knight Chronicles, the highly anticipated PS3 exclusive RPG from development studio Level 5 has gone up a notch in my books. A Japanese gaming site has revealed a several new tidbits on the game, among them a claim that the story should last 100 hours, that the graphics will be 1080P and strangest of all there will be cooperative game play over PSN. None of this is confirmed just yet, but seems pretty concrete. Expect more a TGS
""If I think about hardware the news is already out so looking at software, on the Square Enix booth I'm interested in seeing how much of Final Fantasy XIII is finished and presented," he said. The level to which the game is presented will give a clue as to when it might be ready and that will have a direct impact on sales of the PlayStation 3 console.
"I'll also be looking to see if Dragon Quest IX is playable," said Hamamura. The latest installment in the long-running and hugely popular D..."
Just how good is White Knight Chronicles' character customization?
Ex-bikini model, SEGA poster girl, BBQ restaurant owner and self-proclaimed alien Yuko Ogura had a crack at the feature, and made a customized chararcter based off herself. The audience is impressed by it's accuracy. What do you think?

There will be more info from this issue as it becomes available. Scans courtesy of Wii @ Everyday.
Earlier today it was apparently revealed by Famitsu that the PS3's upcoming RPG White Knight Story will be released on December the 11th. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case. After scouring the latest issue of Famitsu, Kotaku couldn't find any article on the game at all, let alone a release date.
The game's only mention was on a list of PS3 games marked as "TBA".

This PS3 RPG fell off the map after its presentation at the Tokyo Game Show last year, but it seems to have gotten alone just fine in the background, with this weeks Famitsu stating that the game is set for release in Japan on December the 11th.
With a release date so soon I'm sure we can expect a major update at this years Tokyo Game Show.

"Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that the sharp-looking PS3 RPG White Knight Story will launch sometime in fiscal 2008.

This means that the game, which has the player transforming into a gargantuan knight during battles, will arrive sometime before March 31, 2009, if all goes as planned."
White Knight Story has definitely been keeping silent these last few months, that's if you ever heard about it in the first place. Basically this is a RPG created by Level 5 (the makers of Rogue Galaxy) for the PS3 and by the look of the scans is definitely a title to pick up (whenever is comes out)
"If you've been wondering if Level 5 is up to anything other than getting themselves knee-deep in White Knight Story programming code, we've got some good news for you today. Seems a preliminary list of RPG's to show at the Tokyo Game Show compiled by RPGFan denotes a few Level 5 titles, one of which has yet to claim a title of its own. The interesting thing is the description released in the game listing: "set to create a new genre". That's pretty ambitious.
What could this game be? What p..."
