In this age of online gaming, local multiplayer games have become mostly a thing of the past. Even so, Matt Beaudette of Gaming Irresponsibly counts down his favorite local multiplayer games of the past and present.

European shoppers will find a slightly different looking Wii on the shelves for the holiday. The new Wii Family Edition was announced by Nintendo at GamesCom today.

The success of the original Gameboy was successful due to Tetris which appealed to the general non gaming masses. The launch of the Wii was successful due to Wii Sports. Will Nintendo be able to capture the non gaming audience again?

"It has been an impressive week for sales with Memorial Day just passing and game companies pushing to get sales up for the start of summer vacation. Amazon is keeping the sales coming with their newest offer of buy one get one free Nintendo games. The sale is only good while the products last, and they are going very quickly with less than 20 of each game left."

Daav from NoobFeed.com goes over all the winners in the Art of Video Games exhibition from the Smithsonian. Get your nostalgia on!

The current video game generation has brought us some of the greatest moments in the industry's history. However, there are still moments that have us scratching our heads and wondering "How could this happen?" We take a look at the ten biggest flops to occur this generation.

"Video game competitions are nothing new, and have even managed to create a new job as a professional gamer. However, what Nintendo plans on doing will require a little bit of activity, and even less dignity. The Wii Olympics are coming."

"Choosing the best games of a decade is a tricky thing. It's tempting to simply pick your favorite games, but that's not considering the question deeply enough. The following titles were picked for the Top Ten Games of the Decade based on quality, innovation, and cultural influence. All ten of these games are titles that gamers will still be talking about in another ten years. With that, enjoy the list!"

"The recent end to 2009 and all the holidays that lead up to the New Year involved a lot of traveling to a lot of different relative's houses. Since I'm the "gamer" of the family, it's usually up to me to bring some form to digital entertainment or know the latest stuff out there. The following list are some of the games requested to me and ones that are always crowd pleasers."

What was once considered a male only market of pre-pubescent boys, some serious number crunching has revealed an eye opening look at modern gamers. With Wii Sportsbecoming the best selling video game of all time and the average gamer age rising to 32, it's clear that this new decade of gaming is filled with all kinds of surprises.

"Following Electronic Theatre’s report on the North American release of black Wii controllers earlier this morning, Nintendo have confirmed that the Wii console is about to get an exciting new look as it launches across Europe in sleek black."

"The new Wii console bundle, originally revealed by Electronic Theatre last month, has now arrived at UK retail and is available for consumer purchase. The new bundle has not received a reduction in price as many had anticipated, but rather added in more value through additional hardware and software."

"Nintendo have today confirmed that the UK will receive a brand new hardware bundle for the hugely successful Wii console on October 2nd, 2009. As Electronic Theatre have previously suggested, the bundle will not reduce in price, but instead add more value to the existing package."

Since the advent of online gaming, workplaces and schools have been struggling to keep up, blocking any sites they consider counter-productive. Who knew this would be a problem with cops in the field?

During a drug raid in March, detectives found a Wii sitting among the suspect's belongings. Some bored investigators decided to fire it up and start playing bowling in Wii Sports while colleagues continued scouring the home for evidence.

Little did they know, the suspect had a wireless c...

"On the heels of February’s launch of the annual Guinness World Records 2009 Gamer’s Edition, representatives were on hand at the E3 Expo this week to honour gaming publishers with brand new records.

Guinness World Record recipients included Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Mario franchise and more recently Wii Sports, who received the record for the Best Selling Video Game with sales of 45.7 million to date."

In this article All Age Gaming look at five console games that have been released on either the Wii, PS3 or 360 that have helped to shape this generation of gaming.

"Nintendo made the Wii for girls. Oh, and grandmas, too, who are like girls, except with more wrinkles and better oatmeal cookies. But you know who the Wii is NOT for? People who play video games consistently, i.e. guys, and that’s why the Nintendo Wii is doomed for failure in the long run."

"Electronic Theatre has received word that Wii hardware supply in the UK has now reached a level-footing with demand, allowing retailers to freely order their required quantities without limitation."

"A launch title can’t really break a console (Or, maybe it can, see Luigi’s Mansion) but it certainly can make one, and to celebrate my love for judging a system entirely on the first games that come out for it, here are my top five favorite launch titles of all time."

"While Wii may be selling faster than tickets to an all boy choir being sold at a Catholic parish, the games have received very little fanfare on the review front. Outside of the occasional mini-game compilation and first-party titles, Wii has struggled greatly in North America to establish any sort of strong sales figures for third-party games that measure up to the console's install base. Hardcore and casual third-party exclusive titles for the Wii fall very flat in comparison to the PLAYSTA..."

"ELSPA has welcomed the findings of a new study that indicates videogaming could form part of recommended daily physical activity. The study, conducted by Nottingham Trent University, the Department of Health and Nottingham University Hospital, set out to investigate the levels of energy expended when playing videogames. Representatives from GameCity, a street-level programme of activity that celebrates videogames and interactive entertainment, were also involved in supporting the clinical tri..."

"Isn't playing video games the language of love? What's that you say? Is isn't? Well, it should be, because we can hardly think of a better way to spend Valentine's Day - that's this Saturday, for the uninformed - than by playing video games. Of course, being a social event that you should be enjoying with your spouse or boy/girlfriend, you'll have to make sure that the game you're playing is interesting for the other party, whether they be taking part or not. Here's our list of the top ten ga..."

"According to a new research survey conducted by Kelton Research between January 6th and January 19th, 2009 for Game Crazy, found that 80 percent of Americans actually would like to play games with their partner, spouse and super-significant other. Ah, now doesn’t that just warm your heart? Anyway, the study also found that gaming could help couples stay together. You might want read on before continuing through with that call to your divorce lawyer."

"So, what of the Wii for the future? At Nometet.com we hope that game developers will wise up to what’s good about the Wii, and make a game where you can wave your Wiimote about and make your own moves, where you can use the balance board to shift the centre of gravity of your character, leading to a sweet game not unlike Mirror’s Edge only a lot more advanced. We predict said game will arrive at the same time as the nuclear apolocalypse. Or when people stop worrying about Sarah Palin. The apo..."

"Guess what? It's pretty slick. We didn't conduct a full-blown test, but we did get to check it out and play a bit of Wii Sports. We instantly noticed an improved hand feel over the standard Wii Remote when we got our hands on it. The underside "B" button is rubberized for an improved grip and feel. And the buttons, although square, are easier to hit and feel responsive."

"Fanboys have been plaguing the Internet for quite some time with their silly propaganda, heinous slander, & a laggard intellect that leaves the rest of us sane humans flabbergasted at the fact that these are the type of people we not only have to deal with on forums or blogs, but also in person typically at retailers where I purchase my games from. I just don't understand the logic behind being a fanboy, I mean the way I see it it's a lose lose situation. These companies do not compensate you..."

"As those experienced in the realm of nerdery, we gamers know what it is like to be social outcasts more often than not. We understand that there are certain codes, unwritten rules to being a part of circles, and what must be done to infiltrate them.

The same is true of the gaming community, perhaps more so than other clubs. To keep our hardcore gaming membership card secure in our wallets, there are certain appearances we must uphold in order to earn the respect of the gaming community at ..."

Patrick Klepek of multiplayerblog.mtv.com blogs about his unfortunate tale. He packed himself ready these Christmas holidays, he was ready to spend two weeks destroying his wrists, but he ended up doing absolutely no gaming at all! With this he poses the question, is he the only one?

"As we all know, the one thing that sets videogames apart from other forms of media is interactivity. Being the catalyst for your own adventure is something that makes gaming more interesting to me than any movie or book. With videogames, one can stop being a mere passive observer and actually be a part of the action.

That said, if there's one thing I may have done more than playing videogames, it's watching videogames. Whether patiently waiting for my turn or being astounded by the skills..."

"So here's the thing, Wii Fit has mass-market appeal, and Wii Sports comes packed in with the Wii, so it's understandable for them to outsell AAA titles from the other consoles. Wii Play, however, isn't even a GOOD GAME. No one will tell you that it is. Yet the fact that it comes with a Wiimote for only $10 more has encouraged nearly 20 MILLION PEOPLE to drop down their precious cash for the thing. More people own this game than Halo 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Gears of War COMBINED.

I think..."

It's fair to say most gamers have bashed Wii Music, most not even considering it a game at all, just some shovel ware Nintendo wants to sell to idiotic casual gamers. And perhaps Nintendo will try a little harder to please hardcore gamers next time, as fans have struck Nintendo where it hurts most, their wallets. Early sales reports for Wii Music estimates its sales around 50 000 so far, which while good comes no where near Wii Fit. Nintendo are still defending the title though, Cammie Dunawa...

The Nintendo Wii has copped a lot for going with the whole "casual game" theme, though maybe some people enjoy it more than others.

Robin Yates of Patterson Mill Middle/High School has been letting her students who have autism play with a Nintendo Wii each day. There's been nothing but very positive feedback, with all the kids loving it. It allows the kids who have this condition be active when normally they wouldn't be. It offers easy play so anyone can have fun and it's been noted that i...

2 Braid
3 Halo 3
4 Fallout 3
5 Rockband

A very interesting list indeed. Recently a newspaper in the UK named the Independent released their list of the top 50 games of all time, above is the top five.

Their number one choice was Wii Sports, is this a joke? The inclusion of Halo3 makes some sense, but are there not many better games that should've made the top 5?

A study conducted by the University of Wisconsin shows that Wii Sports, the sports game published and developed by Nintendo, is helping adults burn calories for adults. Baseball, tennis, and bowling can burn up to 3.9 to 10.2 calories a minute. The highest calorie burner was boxing, burning 216 calories in 30 minutes and the lowest was golf, which burned only 117 calories. However, Cordero McCalure, a GameStop employee, said that no kids come looking for Wii games and Best Buy employees state...

According to the article, the casual games are going a little too far. Nintendo always has a fun, casual game to play. There's Nintendogs, Brain Age games, Wii Sports, and tons of others! After awhile, E3 2008 bestows its greatness upon us and what games do we get? Another Wii Sports game and a music game without an air guitar. Do you agree with the article, have the casual games gone too far?

One of the new game reveals by Nintendo on the Kodak Theater stage was Wii Sports Resort, a follow-up to Wii Sports that showcased the company's new Wii MotionPlus accessory, that would allow for 1:1 control for the Wii Remote.

IGN gave it's hands-on impressions for the three minigames showcased in Wii Sports Resort on the floor: Disc Dog, Sword Play, and Power Cruising. They came away with the feeling that the Wii MotionPlus really works, and were impressed with the accuracy of the devic...

Nintendo is really trying to reach out to the casual gamer with this one. On June 12, Nintendo will be hosting a Wii Sports Boxing contest in a New York City bar, but this contest is only for the ladies. The winner of this tournament will win a Wii, what a surprise!

Nintendo will also be hosting a Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament on Father's Day. This tournament will be held in the Nintendo World store in New York City on Sunday, June 15. People of all ages and genders are invited to play.

When you see the title, would you think this is a fanboy article? If you did, then you're wrong coz this is quite far from it.
That VideoGame Blog has analysed the situation of casual games. They seem to have problems with how these casual games sell even better than good action packed games. Read on and see how Nintendo and their casual games like Wii Sports, Crosswords DS and Wii Fit are taking over the world gaining such popularity.

Japan's caught Pokemon fever once again with the release of the newest Pokemon Ranger game, as shown by the Simple 2000 Software chart, which includes sales from March 17 to 23. Also on this list are some new releases and older favorites, such as Wii Sports, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.

Translation credit to Kotaku.

Over the past few weeks we have seen a varied assortment of games claiming a place in the top ten, and this week it's not much different, with a majority of games having released either this week or last week.

The top seller this time around is Gundam Musou Special for the PS2, selling 150k units. Coming in second is the juggernaut, Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii, selling 67k units. Rounding out the top five are Wii Fit (WII - 64k), Soma Bringer (NDS - 51k) and The Idolm@ster: Live ...

"Bioshock
This atmospheric first-person shooter game drew players in to a unique dystopian setting and broke ground with a storyline that forced players to make moral decisions.

Portal
One of the most original (and funny) games in recent history requires players to solve puzzles using a teleporting "Portal Gun." It also features a hugely compelling character in the computerized guide GLaDOS.

Rock Band
The studio that created toy-guitar game phenomenon "Guitar Hero" cranked the volume ..."

It's not a really interesting week this time around, with this week being the week before two big games come out in Japan. As such, there is also a healthy mix of games in this top fifty that is also reflected in the top ten.

The top selling game this go around is the crtically-acclaimed nongame Wii Fit, selling 89k copies. Coming in second is World Soccer Winning Eleven: Ubiquitous Evolution 2008 for the PSP, selling 77k copies. Rounding out the top five are Lucky Star: Misasagi Sakura...

After feeling the fierce drop of the post-holiday shopping season, the Japanese market had some life instilled in it due to a new release reaching up to #2 on the charts. Overall, however, it's just mediocre/standard non-holiday numbers that will dominate the next couple weeks until Super Smash Bros. Brawl hits.

Japan's top-seller once again is our favorite non-game, Wii Fit, selling 92k copies. Coming in second is the aforementioned new release, the NDS version of Mario and Sonic at the...

"The study revealed that the Nintendo Wii, while certainly promoting an increase in physical activity, failed to impress in terms of convincing as a decent form of cardiovascular exercise.

Specifically, the 30 minutes of boxercise emerged as the most taxing on the cardiovascular system, while the 30 minutes on Wii boxing came in second and a 30-minute walk came in third."

So, it's the week after the holiday season. You know what that means? Sales completely drop all around. Nothing really survived the post-holiday massacre other than this week's top selling game, by a clear long shot.

This week's top-selling game is Wii Fit, selling 90k copies. The #2 this week is every child's favorite game, Mario Party DS, selling 43k copies. Rounding out the top five are Wii Sports (WII - 33k), Final Fantasy IV (NDS - 32k), and Monster Hunter Portable 2nd (PSP - 26k...

Quickly after updating with the previous week's pre-New Year's sales, Media Create has updated their weekly rankings to reflect the sales for the week of one the biggest holiday shopping weeks in Japan, New Year's. Nintendo regains control of the top ten after Sony's penetration the previous week, and games on Nintendo consoles make for 41 out of the 50 games in the Top 50.

The top seller for this New Year's week is the child-favorite Mario Party DS, selling 196k copies. Next up is the n...

After a week's hiatus, we finally get Media Create's software rankings, along with hardware and software numbers for the week preceding New Year's Day. Contrary to the preceding week's Nintendo domination, games from a system not owned by Nintendo broke into the top ten. Hardware wise, it's still the same old, with the DS, PSP and Wii selling in the six figure range, while the PS3 ranges around 55k.

This week's top seller is the new Super Robot Taisen game, Super Robot Taisen OG Gaiden, ...

Honestly, there's no other way to put it. This tracking week is still well into the holiday season in Japan, and if it were somehow possible, DS Lite and Wii numbers increased. 41 out of the Top 50 are on a Nintendo system, with no 360 showing, and Sony representing the other nine. The PSP continues the have same problem that it had last week. But still, the Nintendo numbers, frankly, are completely and utterly absurd.

At the top of the rankings is our newest DS million-seller, Mario P...

"11-year-old Taylor Smith, who has suffered with degenerative muscle disease arthrogryposis all her life, was gifted with her very own Wii this festive period – courtesy of Nintendo – after a family friend wrote to Nintendo in Australia asking for its assistance."

"Tech Web site Ars Technica has recently revealed that Missouri-based chain Slackers is turning away in-store patrons eager to secure a unit of the Wii, while its stock allocation is selling through online auction Web site eBay for a "Buy It Now" price of $399.99 USD, which is $150 USD more than the recommended retail price of $249.99 USD."

It's another zany sales week in Japan, with DS and Wii sales shooting through the roof in a Nintendo-dominated top ten, and some weird and disheartening PSP sales.

There was a flip-flop at the top of the rankings, as this week's top seller was last week's #2, Mario Party DS, selling 180k units. The #2 seller is last week's #1, Wii Fit, with 124k units sold. Rounding out the top five is the only non-DS/Wii game in the top ten, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (PS3 - 116k - BD Version), Professor L...

"The accompanying price tag may mean re-mortgaging the house or selling granny into the slave trade, but if you’re prepared to break the bank, risk your marriage, or bid farewell to your kids’ higher education in order to secure the Wii, then it’s yours... for the right price."

"Cannily titled: Topless Wii, it’s unclear as to whether the following series of tantalising video clips have been designed to alleviate the gathering frustrations of shoppers searching in vain through masses of online retail stores – or for some other reason that only the lowest common denominator and one-handed typists can truly relate to."

Contrasting with Famitsu's numbers, Media Create has the PS3 tracking barely above the Wii. Still notable, but the overall drop is pretty shocking. We can start entertaining various possibilities over what will happen in the next few weeks to these two streams.

The top software seller this week for a second time is Mario Party DS, selling 116k units. The second-seller this week is the newcomer Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii, selling 83k units. Rounding out the top five ...

A man, who's name is Tony has busted his wife cheating on him by simply going through the Wii's history or in other words calendar.

Tony who has been in Iraq for about a year has had his Wii sent to him while on duty before he shipped it back the U.S. During April 2007, he arrived home hearing that his wife has been with another man. Tony then confronted her and the wife just claimed to have had an innocent kiss with a man only once.

During November, this month. Tony visited the Mii cha...

Pretty crazy week, this week.

The top software seller this week is Mario Party DS, selling 235k units, followed by the PS3 version of Shin Sangoku Musou 5. Rounding out the top five are last week's #1 , Super Mario Galaxy (Wii - 75k), Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift (NDS - 23k), and the 360 version of Shin Sangoku Musou 5 (360 - 22k).

However, the more shocking is the hardware numbers, with the PS3 selling 56k units, and the Wii still selling at a respectable 35k. So, s...

What's surprising in these charts isn't what is #1, but rather, the amount at which the top game sold. Many expected higher, but this is still a decent number for only three-four days of sales.

Topping the chart this week is none other than Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii, pushing around 251k units. In the #2 spot is a shocker, Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation for the Xbox 360, selling around 77k units. Rounding out the top five are last week's #1, Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Gri...

Nintendo is arranging some form of Zapper demo using a Zelda mini-game called Zelda Crossbow Training. Could this be the Zelda that was said to be in the works, and is this one game or is it going to be a mini-game collection? Believed to use the Twilight Princess engine, the demo was shown off to GameStop managers in Las Vegas today.

"Videogames developers are always copying ideas from one another. It’s happened since the birth of the industry and it's a trend that will continue - that's business - but rarely is it so blatantly obvious as in the case of IN2Games’ REALPLAY series, which was announced today for the PlayStation 2.

Even if it plays well, it's such an unashamed act of hopping on a bandwagon recently established in mainstream gaming that GamerSquad is inclined to feel a little bit of embarrassment for the fi..."

June of this year, the semi-professional tennis player, Jerry Pope, suffered a stroke. However, during his rehabilitation, he refused to do the repetitive, boring exercises. His doctor had heard about another patient who was using the Wii to help recover from a stroke, and he thought it was a brilliant idea. Pope went into Wiihab by playing Tennis (from Wii Sports) several times a week. It was one of the first steps to helping him from recovery.

The Wii seems to be able to help a bunch...

"It had to happen really, the very nature of gameplay associated with the Nintendo Wii lends itself too conveniently to eventual medical criticism regarding repetitive strain injury (RSI), tennis elbow, or some other kind or related tendonitis. So, bearing that in mind, meet Dr. Julio Bonis, who’s taken to labelling physical Wii complaints as Wiiitis. We kid you not."

"According to a report from GamesIndustry.biz, Nintendo has teamed up with Comment LTD, a London-based advertising company that specializes in live communication, to launch a live advertising campaign in movie theaters across England. Comment LTD called the move "an advertising first."

Over the next two weekends, five pairs of actors will appear in nine cinemas across the country and play Wii Sports in front of movie-going audiences. The advertisement will begin in the usual fashion with a ..."

Ok ok, first I have to apologize for the sexist title. But, it got your attention, didn't it? well, this is just as bad as getting beat in general but to be beaten at Wii Sports, Boxing; someone who doesn't even have opposable thumbs, let alone any fingers at all. A dog, that's right, a dog. Just a bit of tape and a controller and watch that dog throw those punches, look out Mike Tyson.

The video is a bit sketchy as they don't focus the video on the whole dog so someone could be behind...

"Consumers all over America are telling us the Wii helps them to stay active and fit and also gives them another reason to be together as a family,” says George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. “Wii has quickly become a part of America’s fitness plan, from bowling leagues for active seniors to kids and parents who sweat through Wii Sports pentathlons together."
