Mario and Link have been in dozens of Nintendo games. Combined they have sold close to 3 million games. Both have had their ups and downs, but the question remains who is the king of Nintendo?
RealGamerNewz takes a look at gaming franchises across the history of the industry and asks the questions gamers want to know. Outlasting the formula to answering these questions, we dedicate some time in the first of a series of What Ifs? Why Nots? and so forth.
"Imagine you’re back in 1987. Three Men and a Baby was the number one film. Leg warmers, shoulder pads, and big hair were in style. In the video game market, Nintendo was the top dog.
The previous year, The Legend of Zelda became a smash hit. A sequel was demanded by the masses. Zelda II: The Adventure of Link was what Nintendo created to quell the ravenous hunger of video game addicts."
"The graphics and sound are an improvement on the original. Although the classic “Zelda Main Theme” doesn’t feature there is a nice variation of it when Link is on the overworld map. There are slightly more other themes too. Link actually looks more like an elf than some green blob that periodically strikes a sword."
Video games make good Movies. Video Games also make good fake Movie trailers. They are hilarious and coming from video games you would never expect. So check them out!
"Right from the start Nintendo saw the need to cash in on the popularity of its franchise. Alarm clocks, cutlery, towels, bed sheets nothing could escape. Most of it wasn’t worth the plastic it was made from but even today its good to look back at the early days of an industry giant, dipping its toes into merchandising."
"You probably all heard it from E3: Nintendo reps are touting the combat in Skyward Sword as though every enemy is a puzzle. But from what I've played, this couldn't be farther from the truth.
What they should have said is that every enemy has its own strategy, as that'd be much truer to the game's design. The way you fight Keese is naturally different from the way you fight a Skulltula or Stalfos, for example. Sure, many of them have puzzle-like elements, such as the hydra enemy that requ..."
"We all have our favorite video game character, right? But what character is the top character of all time? Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer's Edition (out now, $12.99 for ebook, $14.99 for print) chimes in with its Top 10, voted on by more than 13,000 fans on the Guinness website. And Mario takes the top spot.
Nintendo had 11 characters in the Top 50, followed by Sony and Capcom with six and five, respectively. Five characters came from the year 1966, followed by 1987, 2001 and 2007 with ..."
"That first Zelda story really captured the age-old myth of a sword-wielding hero fighting to rescue a princess from an evil king and made it relevant to us, in our modern industrialized age. Link is very much the Odysseus, the Beowulf, the Aragorn archetype made incarnate in the video game world; Ganon is similarly the Satanic figure, the Grendel, the Sauron of Hyrule's universe. It's a healthy blend of classic epic and modern high fantasy."
"A project nearly eight months in the making, Zelda Informer is proud to present our staffs Top 5 Zelda Game listing. It's always a great debate on what games are truly the cream of the crop, but these 5 titles, no matter how many re-votes, discussions, and debates... always rose to the top of the pile."
"Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
Nintendo released Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link a year after the successful The Legend of Zelda charmed NES players everywhere. Unlike the top-down adventure of the first game, Zelda 2 focused on side-scrolling areas linked by an overworld, a-la Final Fantasy. Borrowing from RPGs didn’t stop there, though, as the game also incorporated a level system, spells, and a focus on towns and talking to people, who were often pretty vague, if not entirely useless. ..."
Attending MegaCon this past year for all three days, my small crew and myself managed to capture possibly every (non anime) cosplayer at the event. Of course for Gaming news, I'm linking you to the gaming cosplayers, but I suggest using this link as more pictures (and video) will be added. Enjoy!
"10. Magic Powder (Link to the Past, Link’s Awakening)
The first item on our list is particularly strange. For starters, you get the magic powder in Link to the Past by finding a magic mushroom and giving it to a witch. Once acquired, the magic powder has many weird uses, ranging from transforming your enemies to waking up a mysterious bat-like creature who makes your magic more powerful. The most awesome use of the magic powder, however, is transforming a cucco into a human in Kakariko, who ..."
A guy made a video on YouTube doing what I remember GameTrailers did quite a while ago, explaining the Zelda timeline. This guy did a complete job imo, very well done, and should be watched. However, he has received a response from Nintendo about this timeline saying.. there is no timeline. I've included the original video and the response in the quote.
Hot off of the Mario Marathon last month, they are at it again. The Mario Marathon team will be partnering up with Cameron Banga and the Four48 Team in bringing you a marathon gaming session of the seven console Zelda titles, from the original classic Legend of Zelda to the newest Zelda title, Twilight Princess. The group will be soliciting donations, with all proceeds going towards Penny Arcade's Child's Play Charity, which buys toys and video games to children's hospitals across the count...
Nintendo is arranging some form of Zapper demo using a Zelda mini-game called Zelda Crossbow Training. Could this be the Zelda that was said to be in the works, and is this one game or is it going to be a mini-game collection? Believed to use the Twilight Princess engine, the demo was shown off to GameStop managers in Las Vegas today.
"If you paid close attention to yesterday's Phantom Hourglass commercials, you might've spotted the lobster design (or is it a crayfish?) on Link's shield. What do you think of the new look? Wind Waker fans should recognize the crustacean shape, as it originally showed up on our hero's pajamas in the GameCube game.
Link's shield has been as much a staple of the Zelda series as the adventurer's green cap, deflecting octorok attacks and pushing away charging enemies. Over the past two decades..."
An important milestone is coming to the Wii Shop: It's 100th downloadable title, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. The title is set to be released this upcoming Monday for 500 points.
With so much success the Wii has had lately, it isn't such a big surprise that this milestone is being passed. Hopefully they will continue to set forth in bringing several classic games into our homes in the future.
