This is especially useful for the younger gamers that missed out on the joy provided by these PC games (the PS2 Brotherhood of Steel game doesn't count)... A good trip down memory lane... thankfully, Fallout 1 and 2 (and Tactics) are still on the HD, and getting playtime in prep for 3!

That leaves the unwashed masses, gamers who never delighted in the fruits of Interplay's Fallout and Fallout 2. Sure, they'll enjoy killing mutants and barking orders at the in-game dog, but will they really pick up on the underlying narrative, one built on several hundred years of fictional history? We honestly cannot say, but our nights are spent gripped in cold terror for the lot of you. Not really, but it sounds much more dramatic that way. In any event, every Fallout survivor knows that it's best to always plan for the worst-case scenario. With that in mind, we give you this brief look at the alternate history/future of events leading up to the start of Fallout 3.

Yep, but Fallout predates Bioshock.... that 50s theme was present in the very first Fallout game back in the day in 1997... never forget playing that for the first time on the PC, just finished it and am finishing 2 now to get ready for 3.

Question is Gutter... will those that never played the first two games appreciate the lore/myth that came before it... or will simply see it as a futuristic Oblivion? *sigh*

The simple answer is...of course not. Will the people that played Resident Evil 4 without playing the classics/REmake (That one deserves its own spot) will ever appreciate the classic games? The answer's obviously "*bleep* no". That example alone should speak for itself when these things happen to franchises.

I feel they will like Oblivion for many that was their first game in the series but many have gone onto read up on the Elder Scrolls lore and play the earlier entries so this should be good for Fallout.

Touche - also MGS4 - had friends that hated the previous games (played for maybe 2 mins, couldnt get through the cutscenes) and they loved 4... a few are going back now and playing through the other ones.

So it could go both ways I guess,.

That's a good point, though I think that it can depend on how different the gameplay is and how accepted it is. Resident Evil was a Survival Horror game with fixed camera angles and all, and Resident Evil 4 is a Third person shooter. The Fallout games also use a gameplay style that it's not used nowadays anymore...against an FPS/RPG system...two of the most outstanding gameplays nowadays.
