    i saved everybody on my ship in my first playthrough, its really not hard. just upgrade the crap out of the Normandy, put the right people on the right tasks in the last mission (which isnt hard to figure out) and you should be golden.

    in fact on my second playthrough i wanted to see how many i could kill, and i only managed to kill like 5 of them.
