Do you remember the days when we had to avoid lava and spike pits, beat predictable enemies and those incredibly lengthly alpha-numeric codes to restore our games before the use of save points? Well, this list gives us 6 gimmicks to remember fondly (or not so fondly) in addition to other gimmicks which have not left us yet.

Since its birth, video gaming has undergone an incredible evolution, from simple sprites and a ghost-eating Pac-Man to today’s domination of home consoles. After all that time, any gamer who’s worth their weight in rupees will remember (fondly, or otherwise) some once-common sights that went the way of the Virtual GameBoy, never to be seen or heard from again. CRACKED recalls some video-game staples of yesteryear, and admits that, in the end, there are still more of them kicking around than we’d like.

Well written, but I agree with Seventh Blade. Infinite Inventory space FTW!

The platform one was hilarious, and the inability of swimming, but i thought GTA the person knows how to swim.

LOL, the Unlimited Carrying Capacity bit, made me seriously LOL for some reason (perhaps the simple absurdity of anybody being able to lug around several tons of stuff without you know, being crushed...and the comment about Link...LOL)

Yes...Why can't frogger swim? And yeah, San Andreas has your character swimming, as would GTA IV I would think...

I remember in a game magazine I read they had a list similar to this, with all the stupid things which don't make sense in games.

Some of my favorites were the disappearing bodies and the ability to carry enough ammunition to single handily occupy Cuba
