Having Linux on your PlayStation 3 is a great bonus. Not only can you program, word process and play games on Linux, you can also make a backup of a Blu-Ray disc. Of course the backup is no good if you don't have a Blu-Ray burner but at least it's a start. Use this tutorial to find out how to rip a Blu-Ray game disc into an ISO image.
Ripping Blu-Ray discs and other discs is easy using your PlayStation 3 console. But before you can begin, you will require the following:
- Linux installed on PS3
- 50GB free space under Linux or external hard drive
- Blu-Ray game disc (or other disc)
- Access to PC with Windows XP

It's kind of useless to rip a Blu-Ray game to your HDD through linux though, since you can't burn discs on your PS3. You'd need to then extract that data to a PC with a Blu-Ray burner and if that's the case you should have just used a the Blu-Ray PC driver to rip it and burn it in the first place.
This could be the beginning to homebrew though...
If only there was some way to rip the PS3 game iso through linux and then in the XMB under game have it navigate to the ISO on your HDD and trick it into playing the iso straight off the HDD.
You'll never, ever, use it unless you want a crappy version of the game and your friend is really generous and allows you to borrow his game.
