In-depth Report on Nintendo Wii Launch in South Korea

jesusraz | June 04, 2008 | Industry News | Wii
Ever since the Wii launched over in South Korea at the end of April, people have been keen to see whether or not the console could emulate the success of the Nintendo DS over there. It was recently reported that the Wii wasn't doing well but now we have some hard facts. Now that unconfirmed numbers have been revealed, analyst are quick to jump to the conclusion that the Wii is severely underperforming. Cubed3.com's Adam Riley takes a closer look at the launch in this special article to explain why all the doubters are not exactly right in their analysis...
Despite earlier reports of Nintendo's Wii console selling roughly 35,000 units in its first month and being a big success, a new article from South Korea states that this result is actually far below initial expectations. According to economic website ‘MK’, the Wii actually sold closer to 40,000 in its first month, but the website also states that many believed Nintendo of Korea would sell through the full first run of stock, which is thought to be 50,000 units, and retailers would actually be struggling to keep up with demand. However, this has certainly not been the case as the fire has started slowly burning, instead of bursting into an instant raging inferno, and it would seem analysts are quick to point the finger at several different reasons for why this is the case. Are they all valid reasons, though, or can most be shot down with ease?
