Contrary to expectations, analysts are finding Grand Theft Auto IV hasn't spurred sales of consoles. This is described as "baffling", with one analyst saying "this is likely due to the exclusivity factor as exclusive releases on Sony's platforms have historically shown to be a better hardware driver than that of multi-platform releases."

Great game, to be sure, but myself, I've got a ton of reasons not to pick up either asap. What are your reasons for not picking up an Xbox or PS3 for GTA?

In notes to investors today, Wedbush Morgan Securities' Michael Pachter said he was again surprised at GTAIV's inability to drive hardware sales. And without new Xbox 360s and PS3s finding their ways into consumers' hands, the game could lose its sales momentum in a hurry.

"Sales were once again led by GTAIV selling 1.3 million units compared with our estimate of 1.7 million units," Pachter said. "This implies a tie ratio of 28 percent, implying potential for tempering demand over the next several months unless the installed base for PS3 and 360 grows faster."

EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich suggested this week's release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots might have an easier time moving hardware than Rockstar's latest.

You can't expect one game to persuade someone to part with upwards of £200 instantly, no matter how good the game is.

Having said that, I'd buy a PS3 for MGS4 if I had the money.

Not everyone though Plenty of people like Akira thought it was a rumor, which common sense would tell you that it hasn't really drove any substantial console sales for PS3 or 360.

If it had been an exclusive title, then no doubt it would have moved consoles. But since it was released on two of the three next-gen consoles then naturally alot of people who want the game will already have the console.

Expecting a game to sell loads of consoles isn't very bright, especially since it's coming out for more than one. Chances are, if you don't have one console, you have the other to get it on.

I agree with Shadow net583x s. A game is made special from what you can do in it. Or what the system allows it to do.
