The latest week of Japanese sales are in, with a bunch of new releases lining the charts, headlined by the latest remake from
Square Enix:
Dragon Quest V DS.
The top seller this week is the aforementioned
Dragon Quest V for the DS, selling a whopping 644k units. Coming in second is the latest Gundam game,
Gundam Battle Universe for the PSP, selling 138k copies. Rounding out the top five are last week's top seller,
Persona 4 (PS2 - 41k), new
ecchi game Tears to Tiara: Kakan no Daichi (PS3 - 34k), and constant seller
Wii Fit (WII - 27k).
On the hardware side, the PSP is the top hardware seller this week, which is attributed to a new Metallic Bundlecolor and new bundles. The DS gains a boost from Dragon Quest V, while the Wii looks to be selling constantly around 40k a week. The spike from Metal Gear Solid 4 is over, and the PS3 has returned to selling the usual 10-11k units a month. The PS2 is still selling decently, while the 360 is still dead in Japan.
Dragon Quest V's first week beats Dragon Quest IV's opening of 598k units. Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii (WII - 24k - #6are still going strong at 2380k and 1584k units lifetime, respectively. Daigasso! Band Brothers DX (NDS - 21k - #7) also reaching 200k is a pleasing sight to see. Super Mario Stadium: Family Baseball (WII - #12), Biohazard 0 (WII - #16) and Tales of Symphonia: Knights of Ratatoskr (WII - #19) are still going strong.
Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3 - #13) is still out of the top ten like last week, and looks to be winding down in sales. It should top out around 625k; 650k will be a reach. Tears to Tiara has a decent opening at 34k, while Gundam Battle Universe has a good start, with Gundam still widely popular in Japan. Persona 4 is still going strong, while Monster Hunter Portable 2G (PSP - 16k - #9) can't seem to keep up with Wii Fit.
As usual, it is pretty barren on the 360 front, with no games in the top 50 for the console.
