The new Playstation 3 goes on sale in the UK today for £299, and it has 80GB. What comes with it is two USB ports and a DualShock 3 SixAxis wireless controller. Soon around Halloween, Sony will be releasing another PS3 version, one with a 160GB hard drive. This version releasing does not have backwards compatibility.

More of a reminder than a news story this one; Sony's new PlayStation 3 goes on sale today in the UK from £299.

The basic package comes with two USB Ports and a DualShock 3 SixAxis wireless controller. There's no PS2 backwards compatibility though, that's a thing of the past. And the original 60GB version.

Just in case you missed it, Sony's going to be releasing ANOTHER PS3 SKU this Halloween, that one will pack a 160GB hard drive.

Since PS3 launched last September, we've gone 60, 40, 80 160. Confusing isn't it? You've got to wonder what the casual market makes of it all...

I wouldn't expect it to have BC anyway.
    Interesting nonetheless.

Still a rip off compared to the 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle in North America. For £60 less you also get Metal Gear Solid 4, a free download of Pain, backward compatibility, memory card slots and two extra USB ports.

    It's a start, at least.

Yeah but the American's are bastards and always get the products for a lot less then the UK market, just look at the Rock Band equipment for another sign on that.

Nice offer but even if I didn't have a PS3 it wouldn't temp me as I would want to play the oldies.. Got job I got an early 60GB one then ^^

Could it be the fact everywhere but the U.S has a shit load more taxes, which is why it costs alot more there.

Though thats why I got a 60GB version when I did and not wait like some of the people now.

Haha, yes it's probably the tax issue combined with the fact that Sony hates everyone from Europe.
